hi everyone! i am fortunate that my school is still running lessons virtually, and although there are no a-levels happening in the UK we are doing ‘wrap-up’ courses for 3 weeks to try and tie up any loose ends from what we’ve been doing, before moving on to elective-style modules for the following 6 weeks.

that means I currently am getting french, italian and english lessons at a-level (as well as art but there isn’t much resource provision / teaching on that front for obvious reasons). the courses afterwards are as yet unknown but I think one of them will be an introduction to intellectual property law - there will be 5 others (i will update you all!)

I know many schools aren’t running virtual courses, so in an attempt to share resources with others I’m trying to put anything I learn (vocab, grammar etc) and a description of the tasks we get set on here in case anyone else would like to access them.

if you’re taking GCSEs next year (French / Italian) I am also working with SchoolsPlus Oxford to create resources, so I will post those on here as well in case people want to see those them. a lot of it is Quizlets of all the exam board recommended vocab but I am going to try to branch out and create more interesting content eg worksheets / video-based tasks.

okay i seem to have collected a lot of french resources over the last few weeks, and i wanted to collate them and share them with you guys <33

checkers and dictionaries

these things have saved my life like hundred times over, theyre great for checking your accuracy and looking up words (these work for most languages as well!)

bonpatron - checker

languagetool - another checker

reverso - another checker yay!

linguee - dictionary

reverso dictionary - reverso have a dictionary as well, actually its a super helpful website with like conjugation and stuff

reverso context -  i had to include another reverso one, this one will translate a phrase into another language, but give you examples in context which is super helpful

collins dictionary - yep another dictionary 

wordreference - guess what? its another dictionary!

babbel - a great website with loads of different ways of testing your skills

lingvist - im in love with this website, its so good for learning vocab, and has listening and reading exercises as well

duolingo - of course, everyone loves duolingo

lingvo - not quite a language learning website, but its awesome and has info about linguists and stuff i love it

frenchcrazy - an introduction to french phonetics

beginning pronounciation - basic sounds etc

fsi language - a very in depth phonology course

ultimate guide - a very good clear pronunciation guide

pronunciation charts - charts with sounds in (bit confusing maybe)

phonetique - website for photenics of french, with sound

pronunciation guide - very extensive pronunciation guide

ways to sound more native - the ultimate dream of sounding like a native

listening exercises - put your phonetics to the test!

peppa pig - im not even joking, listening to peppa pig is a really good way to improve your french because its pretty simple language

easy to understand french movies - watching movies in french is also a really good way of improving your french

french youtubers - a fun way to improve your listening (cyprien is my fave as he sometimes has english subtitles on his videos)

1jour 1 actu - kids news website so its really simple which is good

courrier international - another french world news website

dictations

basically when you try to listen to a french audio and write it down as you hear it

theyre horrible and difficult but really good at improving your french because they test your reading and listening skills

collection of lots of them - like 120 different ones

lots of different levels - loads of levels for school age french kids so you can pick which ones you want

categorized ones - to test you on certain grammar things etc

this ones v helpful - you have to write the dictation while correcting errors, so obvs a bit harder

I like this one. It has a two levels of elementary french. They’re very detailed, lots of exercises, audio, video and texts.

English translation:

—I made boar pappardelle* [but also: I made pappardelle for the boar] —Were they good? —Hell yeah, it ate them all

* Pappardelle are a type of pasta similar to tagliatelle, but larger, and are usually eaten with game sauce (mainly hare and boar).

Anatomy of Pasta dish names: in Italian, names of pasta dishes typically consist of “name of pasta” + a + type of sauce/way of preparation. Spaghetti al pomodoro “tomato sauce spaghetti”, gnocchi ai quattro formaggi “four cheeses gnocchi”, linguine al limone “lemon sauce linguini”, etc.

hello !! i’m tobi (@ssehuns), and i was recently inspired to create a space where young people can share their art with a community of likeminded people after attending a creative writing camp with logan (@reckless-emotion), my co editor in chief. it was such an amazing, emotionally charged experience that we found ourselves wanting to hold on to that atmosphere for as long as possible

–– what is anthropocene?

anthropocene magazine (@anthropocenemag) is a submission based online literary zine and community focused on sharing writing and art !! our goal is to make anthropocene a monthly/quarterly/annually publishing magazine filled with work created young people for young people inspiration for anthropocene came from a lot of different places, but we chose the name because above anything we want our community to be focused on growth and human activity

–– how do i get involved?

you can either apply to be an editor or graphic designer or send in advance submissions (you can send in submissions at any time, but they’ll be archived until all the editor positions are filled)

right now we’re looking for editors to read all submissions that we get. each editor will read for one type of submission, and we need 2-3 of each. we also need a few graphic designers. to apply, just follow @anthropocenemag, reblog this post then fill out an application below !!

we accept submissions of poetry, prose, short fiction, short creative nonfiction, essays, photography, digital art, or physical art. we’re going to officially open submission after editors are chosen, but you can submit now and they’ll be archived until editor applications close

you can submit as many as 5 pieces at one time, and you can send in a mix of any type of work. submit by sending us an email at [email protected] with your work in a file and your first name & last initial. name the file “work name,” “type of work” (example: sunsets on a beach, poetry). the subject of the email should be issue 1 submission, “number of pieces” (example: issue 1 submission, 3)

–– what’s the theme?

issue one’s theme is keystones !! a keystone is something that everything else depends on. for example, a momentous occasion, the most important step in a process, and an important realization are all keystones. (this is a very loose theme–more of a formality–so don’t worry at all if you don’t think your piece fits the theme~please submit it anyway !!!)

[10.1.19] i took this at 2:15 am this morning… oof. but, happy first day of october!!! i have an exam today and i’m going to be honest, i have really struggled to get back in the “school mindset” so far. i took a summer class while working a full-time internship, so i feel like i didn’t get as much of a break as i would have liked and there have been soooo many times where i just want to sit and do anything but school or work. but, i’m getting back into it, slowly but surely. only 2 exams have passed before i started studying seriously, it’s nbd lol. well, this one is tomorrow, and it feels a lot like the stuff we do in a lot of my other accounting classes so here’s hoping it will be, and i’ll do okay. if not, i’ll take a deep breath, evaluate what went wrong, and try again. i got this!

I have an upcoming Modern History exam on Wednesday, so the past few days has been dedicated to Modern revision! Today’s plans are to read over notes for two topics. Tomorrow I’m hoping to read over notes for the last topic during the day, and then spend the night memorising key dates/events for each topic.

Only 11 more days to go until the end of my HSC exams — I can’t wait!

hey guys! so recently i decided to branch out and to use tumblr as a study resource tool as well as for inspiration etc... it is literally life changing!

i started a new side blog (if you want to have a look it’s over here) and i just started uploading my schoolwork, notes etc and it is the best thing i seriously encourage you to do it! 

why? because:

you can search your notes

you can keep track of useful little things like resources, websites, ideas etc

you can reblog things you find useful or relevant and keep it all in one place

you can access your notes and work anywhere!

you can organise notes by subject, theme, date etc

you can keep track of sources for easy bibliographies!

you can have things in multiple places! this is something i find super useful because I have a lot of crossover between subjects (i take italian, french, english and art) so it is really useful to be able to look at the art and literature that was happening at a specific point in history for example, or compare Romanticisim in art, italian, french and english literature)

you can add quotations from set texts as individual posts and tag them (i haven’t done this yet because it needs a bit of time investment) so that you can search for quotations by theme, character, chapter - whatever you want!

and finally, you can share resources and ideas with other people, making education more accessible to people who don’t necessarily have access to your quality of education! amazing!

obviously nothing goes without slight risks - obviously don’t put anything that will be checked for plagiarism online eg extended essays, coursework,since plagiarism software won’t be able to tell that it is yours and you will have a hard time proving it to an exam board or equivalent. also remember that anything you put out online is available for other people to access, but if you want to keep it as a personal resource you can always password protect your blog.
