"I  do  not  wish  to  be  a  bother  more  than  I  have  been.  You  understand  why  I  must  leave  eventually."  Kumiko  knows.  At  least,  he  believes  she  knows,  she  always  did.  Even  when  he  had  been  in  his  own  turmoil,  Chozen  was  aware  that  Kumiko  often  knew  what  to  say,  or  what  he  was  feeling.  He  is  sure  that  his  feelings  aren't  really  a  secret  to  anyone  who  had  eyes.  He  looks  over  at  the  woman,  letting  himself  back  again  on  the  bed  once  the  bandages  had  been  changed  and  he  had  been  told  to  rest.

ㅤㅤㅤ❝ OH, HUSH. YOU ARE NOT A BOTHER. YOU NEVER HAVE BEEN. ❞ He originally came here to help Daniel, after all. And regardless, Chozen is her friend. She would never turn him away. But Kumiko does understand that he will eventually have to return to Okinawa. That is his home. His students there need him, just as Daniel's need him here. Of course, there is another reason that she understands, but neither of them has voiced aloud yet. Chozen, as stoic as he is, was never good at hiding one thing in particular. Yet, it changes nothing between them. Why should it? ❝ I know why you must leave. But you are welcome here for as long as you would like to stay. You always will be, ❞ Kumiko nods, a light touch to his uninjured shoulder. ❝ Words cannot describe how grateful we are for what you've done. Both of us. ❞

"YEAH.  BUT  DOESN'T  MAKE  IT  BETTER."  Sam  felt  the  same  way  when  they  reached  out  to  Tory,  help  her  with  school  and  getting  out  of  Cobra  Kai,  he  can't  invalidate  those  emotions  or  feelings  just  because  he  wants  to  help.  Eyes  follow  the  calming  movement  of  the  cup  being  filled  with  tea  and  then  look  over  at  Kumiko,  sighing.  "I  don't  want  to  make  her  feel  like  all  she  built  is  for  nothing.  She  has  been  growing  so  much  the  past  year."  And  Nina  needs  help  too.  A  kid  trapped  under  layers  of  clauses  and  Silver's  own  teachings  that  he  knows  well  that  can  linger  on.  "It's  like  Sam  and  Tory  all  over  again."

ㅤㅤㅤ❝ IT IS A DIFFICULT SITUATION. ❞ Kumiko knows he wants to do right by all of those involved, if that is at all possible. Trying to be the peace in the middle of a storm on both sides is a hard position to be in. But someone has to. That's why they are here, why the dojo exists in the first place. To be a place of peace for those who need it most. ❝ Yes, but look at Sam and Tory now. They have both changed through it all. Grown. And they had to work that out on their own. ❞ His cup of tea filled, she slides it closer to him before turning to pour her own cup. ❝ You will just have to trust her, Daniel. Trust in what you've taught her. This is something she has to figure out for herself, not an answer you can give her. ❞ She takes a sip. Kumiko can remember before she left Okinawa to be with Daniel, how she struggled with something similar with Chozen. He had threatened her life, terrorized her and Daniel, and yet, he was a hurt boy inside, acting out of anger that turned into shame when all was said and done. Over time, she was able to let it go, and he even became her best friend. But forgiving him in the first place was her own choice. It had to be. ❝ These girls are trapped in a vicious cycle. You can give them the keys to get out, but they are the ones who have to make the choice for themselves to open the door and escape. ❞

ㅤㅤㅤSAMANTHA CARRIES SO MUCH OF HER FATHER IN HER, whether she realizes it or not. Getting to meet Daniel's family has been an honor, one that has allowed Kumiko to relive so many cherished memories. His son has a clear resemblance, of course, but Sam? Those little moments appear when Kumiko least expects them, when suddenly she is looking at a mirror of young Daniel.

ㅤㅤㅤ❝ Try it again. You have the steps, only in the wrong order. ❞ Kumiko demonstrates once more before allowing the girl to attempt again. ❝ Keep your posture firm and upright for this sequence. It is not unlike the kata you do in Miyagi-do. This dance requires a certain firmness. ❞

The words are harsh but by his estimation, they're a justified rebuttal, the proffered glass in hand of 2013 Aubert listlessly hovering midair in a moment of discomfort ( its rejection grievous no matter how trivial ). There's a bemused scoff as Silver in turn places both glasses on the tray of a passing waiter, spine haughtily straightening as wrists fall before him, right palm wrapping over the other. "And yet here I humbly stand. Perhaps I was foolish to hope that we could leave behind the rivalry for a few mere hours for the sake of the needy."

ㅤㅤㅤ❝ IT'S QUITE SELF-IMPORTANT FOR ONE TO THINK that the effectiveness of charity relies on their involvement. A public display is not required to help those in need, only to boost the ego while doing so. ❞ She keeps her disdain buried beneath the outward appearance of civility so that the other guests drifting through the area would not perceive anything odd about their discussion. Not to preserve the other's reputation ( goodness no ) , but for Daniel's sake. It would be in poor taste to make a scene when there is already so much delicate pressure on her husband's shoulders. Admittedly, it requires a lot of restraint on her part not to hastily walk away. ❝ I am here, am I not? And not a single ill word has been spoken behind your back this evening. That is the only truce I will offer. ❞ Champagne flute held gently between her pressed fingers, she takes a drink. ❝ It feels good, doesn't it? Having all the fawning attention you surely crave? I just wonder how your neck does not constantly ache from looking down on everyone all the time. ❞

"YEAH.   .   .I   LOST   TRACK   OF   TIME."   There   is   a   short   pause   as   he   allows   himself   to   relax   against   the   couch,   eyes   locked   back   to   her   own.   "It's   Tory.   She   found   out   Im   helping   Nina.   It   feels   I   made   a   mistake."   Maybe   he   should've   given   them   some   space,   the   dojo   fight   at   cobra   kai   wasn't   that   long   ago,   and   one   doesn't   recover   from   trauma   that   easily.   He   should   know.

ㅤㅤㅤSHE LISTENS, FRESH POT OF TEA and two empty cups placed onto a platter and carried over the coffee table. It seems like a good time for hot tea. Her husband has always had the biggest heart, especially for the children he's taken under his wing. Tory is like a daughter, and the girl rarely goes against Daniel's wishes. To hear that there is conflict between them at all means that it must be serious. ❝ Doing the right thing is never a mistake. Nina needs help, ❞ Kumiko shakes her head, pouring tea into Daniel's cup. ❝ Tory has been doing well, but she still carries a lot of hurt that has not healed. But the difference is she has a space where she can heal, and people to help her. Nina doesn't. That girl needs someone to step in for her, and Tory . . . she just needs time, darling. ❞
