Safeguard the Right of All Laboring People to Have Support During COVID-19 Crisis

Hey Taylor + fellow Swifties ♥️,

Can we share this like crazy and sign this petition, for all the mommas out there?

This is a challenging time for everyone. Being a future momma, I’m currently in my third trimester and due in June, what is happening in New York and other hospitals in the Northeast is terrifying. They are banning laboring women from having a support person there during delivery. This is our first baby and it is my personal nightmare to not have my husband by side. Who will labor with me when nurses and doctors are already being spread thin? Advocate for my needs when I am medically unable? Being pregnant during an epidemic like this is terrifying and stressful enough, the emotional toll and traumatic effect going through delivery without your person there is indescribable. My heart breaks for the mommas out there who are going through this right now.

Cancelling my shower, not being able to be with my family during such a precious time, going to doctor appointments alone because my husband is no longer allowed— I can deal with that. What keeps me up at night is this. Is being high-risk and knowing there’s a chance my best friend and husband will be sitting home alone while I’m at the hospital giving birth. It’s something potentially going wrong and not having my support person there to help me through. Something we went through classes and multiple appointments for to practice.

It also completely goes against reccomendations from WHO and the U.S. Center for Disease Control.

“The World Health Organization says that "all pregnant women, including those with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infections, have the right to high quality care before, during and after childbirth," which includes "having a companion of choice present during delivery."

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises limiting "visitors to patients with known or suspected COVID-19." The agency adds that, "if restriction of all visitors is implemented, facilities can consider exceptions based on end-of-life situations or when a visitor is essential for the patient's emotional well-being and care.’ “

Was beautiful, raw, and empowering. Being the same age as Taylor and growing up with her, it was so refreshing and empowering to hear her open up about issues that many face, but are SO. So difficult to talk about.

Your doc opened up many conversations about the trauma of sexual assault and eating disorders among friends of mine that have struggled in silence for much too long. In my best friends words, “I feel empowered.”

As a teacher, I have never taken one of my students’ creations and declared them to be mine. I help them get to the point of creation and then my students get to keep their work. Hoarding a creation that you had no hand in creating is detestable, egomaniacal, and quite frankly, incredibly nauseating.

I’m a teacher too and had the same thought! It’s so gross that anyone would hold anyone else’s work hostage like these disgusting men are doing.

I also look forward to informing my army of 53 fifth graders about this injustice tomorrow and know they’ll be eager to write some persuasive letters ✍🏼👍🏼
