Whenever someone asks me if I can get them a round bird cage my response is "oh you mean a birdie torture device?" Followed quickly by "no."

Don't so round cages folks.

Birds are not Decor

You can't just take pretty birds and overcrowd them into cutesy cages with no enrichment, so you have something to smile at for five minutes everyday.

They are not decor and they are not disposable. They are little living things that have a host of needs that need to be met in order to ensure a long, healthy, stimulating life.

If you want something pretty to smile at but otherwise ignore, do us all a favor and buy yourself a fake plant or listen to a nature CD or get a nice painting. Stop, for the love of all that is holy, purchasing or adopting a LIVING BEING you know you won't care for in two weeks time.

I just took in a small colony of zebra finches, and let me tell you, the cage they came in was disgusting. Several inches of shit caked along the bottom. Nests that haven't been cleaned in so long, with rotted eggs left inside. I didn't even bother cleaning the cage. It's in the garbage and the finches have been relocated to a flight cage.

I have these birds now because someone got bored of them; watching them fight over who got to bathe in their new water dishes first was heart wrenching (and it was a fight - I doubt they've had a proper bath in quite some time)

It's not "just a finch" - yeah fine, they breed like crazy and they're inexpensive but the value of a living thing should not be defined by the price tag it wears.
