Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).

When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".

When the boat is still being built, your say "it".

When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".

When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".

When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.

If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").

If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")

If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").

If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.

If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.

I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

It’s recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.

The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.

EVERYTHING THAT LIVES REQUIRES REST. STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING A ROBOT.

robots require very frequent breaks! welding machines generally have it programmed in that they can’t run so long they melt themselves. ive overseen two different manufacturing robots now and each of them were fragile, finicky idiots that require constant maintenance and repair. they pause in between moves, in between jobs. you’re always keeping an eye on programming errors, on coolant levels, on heat. you’re always pulling bits of scrap out of joints, sweeping up debris, washing off nozzles and untangling hoses. and even then it snaps a chain and takes a whole morning’s vacation.

even robots need downtime.

Listen I am happy for the WLW rep but can we like not pretend Francesca couldn’t be bi? Pan? Queer? I keep seeing edits of her and Michaela which I think is valid but let’s not erase she loved her husband. It’s like with any widow, she loved him and then she found love again. I’m not saying she wasn’t attracted to Michaela immediately and maybe they will go for the “she was always lesbian but had to conform to heteronormativity” bit for her season but until we know for sure can we respect that she has a husband? There’s nothing wrong with her being with a man and then a woman but let’s not erase one as if her “true” love story is one. Her story is meant to show some people, due to circumstance, have multiple love stories just as they are showing with Violet Bridgerton this series.

Im not comfortable with how everyone wants to erase her husband in all this. Just because she was in a “straight” marriage doesn’t make her any less part of WLW. But think of people who relate to her story of being a widow and do end up with a same sex partner, don’t invalidate one love story to favor another.

YES!!! Like, without a doubt there was delicious tension and a spark with Michaela immediately AND she also absolutely loved John and not just platonically. People seem hasty to forget the immediate visible connection she had with him, too!!!

I know that often, especially in historical settings, women perform comphet even if they're lesbians but HOLY SHIT these two were so in love and I loved them AND I love Fran with Michaela and the idea of the two of them.

AND for people who say "she responds to Michaela so differently than she responds to John though so clearly she doesn't love John she only loves Michaela and John was a platonic love" OKAY SO JOHN AND MICHAELA ARE VERY DIFFERENT PEOPLE OF COURSE SHE RESPONDS DIFFERENTLY TO THEM?!? I swear people have never loved more than one person and must just think that they are always going to respond to attraction to someone in the same way. FFS. I've loved and lost and when I found new love it looked conpletely different because IT WAS WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

And this hurts so much more because bi erasure is already such a huge problem.

I think I need to distance myself from the Franchaela fandom because I'm tired of my identity being erased by other sapphic people, and it happens in every single sapphic fandom I'm part of where at least one of the women is probably/possibly bisexual. Apparently I'm only able to be part of sapphic fandoms where it is clear both or all women involved are strictly lesbians because that's the only way I won't have to constantly experience erasure.

Also Francesca is so deeply autistic coded so it also hurts on another level as an autistic person myself that just because her romance reaction to John wasn't "typical" in romance media terms that it was somehow invalid. Meanwhile I absolutely saw romance on the screen, but it did look a bit different, and that should be okay. Let there be neurodivergent expressions of romance as well!!!

Like, this is such a lovely love and I'm completely devastated that people are erasing it before season five is even released, before the show has confirmd whether Francesca is bisexual or a lesbian doing comphet. Both are possible, both are valid, but in the meantime bisexual erasure fucking sucks.

I identify the most with the woman who has a green velvet ribbon around her neck and keeps being like "DONT untie my neck ribbon or something really bad will happen" and then her husband unties the ribbon and her head falls off. this is extremely real to me. spent my whole life like "please don't do this thing to me or really bad stuff will happen" and everyone around me being like "that sounds fake" and doing it anyway. and then my head fell off!

Today in australia they started senate hearings on the bill the government hopes will make enough disabled people die or disappear to make us all less irritatingly expensive for them. We had two weeks to submit feedback on over 400 pages of complicated legal terms. They don't care what we have to say and they don’t care that this will kill people and disenfranchise disabled people across the country.

There are 760,000 Australians on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the system that - if they feel like it and your personalised plan says you get to have it - provides funding for everything from personal hygiene care to support workers to therapies to assistive technology. It's already very hard for disabled people to get on the NDIS, regardless of your disability. It's near impossible to access most support and equipment without being on the NDIS. And the government has announced that they want that number to drop to 600,000 in four years. 160,000 of us cut off the Scheme - and countless more denied access. This will cause deaths. People will die and people will suffer because there is no safety net. The NDIS is the only option for most of us. Even private health insurance doesn't cover most of these things. Nobody will swoop in to save us.

The bill wants to give the (non disabled!) NDIS minister basically unlimited power to cut our funding. They're already planning what they'd do with that power. What rights they'll strip from us. What dignity and freedom they'll remove to make their budget look better.

The bill wants to force people to try every treatment out there before they're allowed to be on the NDIS. Including if the treatment is literally impossible to access. There’s a lot of us living in regional areas or out bush who can't just pop to the capital cities for specialists. This will especially hurt disabled First Nations people in regional and remote communities, who already experience limited access to healthcare. Oh, and it includes chemical restraint, too. The government has directly refused to exclude chemical restraint from the required process, calling it "trialling medication".

I know australia stuff doesn't really pop up on the radar on this site, but I want everyone to know what's going on. What we're fighting for here. Your australian disabled friends might be NDIS participants fearing for their life, rights, and freedom. They might not be a participant and afraid these changes mean they never will have access. We deserve better. The government built a system with no backup plan, and now they want hundreds of thousands of disabled people to pay the price for their bad planning.

Sorry we're too expensive to have rights, I guess.
