the thing about the concept of gendered socialization is that so many people use it as like another kind of gender essentialism. you know it's not an immutable trait right. you can literally overcome it.

"i'm like this because women are socialized to be shy and quiet and subservient" okay good on you for recognizing it, but that's only the very first step. the next few steps are that you Stop Doing It. feminist thought vs feminist action.

I think sometimes we’re in a kind of Wild West of Gender right now. Like more and more I’m of the opinion gendered pronouns are at their core hostile to a truly progressive vision of sex and gender: dress how you want, name yourself what you want, take power over your anatomy, etc. All this seems “real”, the expression of gender as pure self, not having to coordinate your entire sexed person in relation to deeply poisoned wells. However, because we do have this quirk of the English (and obviously many others) where a term of address can automatically “sex” a person, a kind of social violence is constantly present. Therefore, we have created a “progressive” social script to introduce a consensual pact around gendered pronouns, mitigating its harms. And I am of the opinion this is currently the most realistic response, you can’t force a totalizing social revolution. But I do want to acknowledge that this is at best an armistice, not a victory.

It's unfortunate fancfiction authors seem largely interested in their ships. Many interesting ideas and concepts created for the purpose of not actually exploring them. I mean it's their work, they can do what they want, but I'd like to be interested in these stories and I'm just not going to be.

I don't think there's so few trans people in Germany that it's reasonable no one in the insurance company knows what a writ of indication for hrt is and whether or not they cover one from a therapist. I've had three conversations in the last five days explaining to insurance agents that I'm not trying to get a surgery approved like is it just impossible in their system to make some kind of note next to my case they keep sending around?
