why the thigh grab happened

its been bugging me because yes while I have shipped reylo since day one (and literally squealed during this entire scene) I needed a better justification for this moment. It could’ve been good enough that they stood back to back, or maybe if she had leaned on his back to show support, to represent unity. If it was just a scene that the writers and Rian wanted to be cool but not mean much else beyond a moment of panic/instinct, then they could have left it at that. But the thigh grab, it was intentional, this whole staging was intentional. 

Why?

She’s wearing white, he’s wearing black. There is a split moment with Rey’s arm on his thigh, and Kylo’s arm raised in the air, and within that moment, they are in perfect balance. In that moment they embody yin and yang. They are the balance in the force.
