I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). alicent thought she was doing a good thing by sending daeron to oldtown. in a way, she was right. he’s considered a good boy by most everyone who knows him. what we’ve seen on screen shows him to be kind and considerate as well. but it’s clear that he was raised by a cruel and mercurial man who treats him as nothing more than a dynastic tool, in much the same way that otto viewed alicent. he is truly his mother’s son and that is the great tragedy of it all.

Just to be clear to anybody, especially in the USA because I know that Catholicism isn't as common there, this is not a cool rebellion against authority. While some traditionalist Catholics are purely interested in ecumenical things like the Latin mass, in the USA a significant portion of the movement for traditionalism is made up of violent antisemites. The "church's understanding of, and relationship with Judaism" they reference here is the idea that all Jews are not solely personally responsible for the death of Jesus
Yeah, so, do you know how unbelievably too conservative you have to be to be excommunicated from the Catholic Church? This isn’t a cute little rebellion against the pope’s authority or a mild disagreement, it’s partially that but more importantly it’s because SSPX is hardline Latin Mass only, no religious freedom, women can’t wear pants, oh, and Jews killed Jesus anti-Vatican II sect. They’re the kind of people who HATE the pretty minor changes to Mass and seem to believe in tradition for its own sake. In 1988, they consecrated bishops without the approval of the pope and were excommunicated, only for Pope Benedict 16 (I don’t know the Roman numerals) give them a slap on the wrist and brought them back into the fold for the sake of unity. Decades later, they have the pure audacity to do it again, I suspect they either knew they’d get excommunicated again and didn’t care or were bold enough to assume they’d get a different result. Either way, good riddance and I hope they learn their lesson this time.

Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.
And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.
And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.
This isn't just for cults either! Shitty partners, bosses, friends - they all do variants of this where if you kick back the first time they make an unreasonable request, it proves you weren't ever committed since you'd let such a small thing ruin everything. And of course, if it's the third or the tenth unreasonable thing they ask of you, it's SUCH A SMALL THING to be a deal-breaker at this late point in your relationship!

But as you get to know them better you notice that they aren't self centered, they are operating based on a completely different set of social rules. If you talk about one of your achievements unprompted to an american they aren't hostile to you at all (like an aussie probably would be). They genuinely appreciate your achievement and congratulate you on it. It's complicated because ignoring the social rules gives us a bad first impression, but also makes them very genuine upfront open people that are happy to celebrate other peoples accomplishments.
