SURPRISE COMIC UPDATE!! Remember that comic tournament that I talked about in a couple of posts? Well, it's finally done!
(Warning - unprecedented levels of yapping below the cut)
Some context you guys should probably know before reading our comics:
Some of the rules for the tournament is that it was a co-op/tag-team tournament (so two artists working together), we needed to have characters that were duos as well (it was called the Heart of Heroes tournament, so heroic teamwork was a major theme), and that it was a character battling tournament, so we had to include our opponents characters as well.
I teamed up with Captain Redsky (aka merrionberrypi) for this tournament! For most of these, I did the sketches and inks while he did the script and colors.
Our comics reference "Armageddon 2023" a lot. Just for context, once every few years the site holds an event called Armageddon - the important bit for our comics here is that a world ending threat shows up to the loosely shared canon and 5-6 per-established characters team up to fight against it. There was no Armageddon event in 2023 - that's just something we made up for our storyline, lmao.
Anyways, the actual comics:
Felix Saves Someone was our little prologue with our characters meeting! My character is Felix (a robot that's mentally 11 years old and really wants to be a superhero) and my partners character is Adrianna Connors (a 13 year old girl with a mysterious source of trauma).
Round 1 was our first real entry in the tournament. Our comic for this battle is the one titled Uncertainty Principle and ended up winning yippie!!
I also highly recommend looking at the comic our opponents made for the battle, A Date With a Vampire, while you're there :]
While none of these comics were made by us, I also highly recommend checking out the other Round 1 battles! Especially One Last Hero by DoeFr and Footini since it provides some much needed context for our next comic. (Warning - their comic contains some violence and gore!)
Anyways, we finally get to Round 2, which includes our third and final comic we made for the tourney! Our comic is the one titled ???, and I'd say that it's the best out of all 3 of our comics :3c
While you're there, you should also check out our opponents entry, Identity Krysys! It's a super good comic, and I'll be singing its praises until I'm bones and dust lmao. (Warning: Just like last time, their comic contains gore!)
I've been itching to share what we've all made so far, so I'm glad that I finally have the chance to! This whole thing has been months in the making, and I'm really proud of how it all turned out.
Teaming up with Redsky throughout this whole thing has been an absolute delight - the friendship that we've built up between our characters has grown to mean a lot to me, and I really hope that shines through in our work!
Anyways, sorry for the mile long post. I promise to get back into making Phighting stuff again soon LOL
Hello! Is it ok for people to use your Phighting AU as inspiration for their own works?
Over all your work really inspired me to write my own AU which will manly focus on explaining inphernals biology (also I plan to post it when I'm mostly done with it)
Ofc I'm trying to make it as much mine as it is possibile and not to rip off from you, but there's few aspects of your AU that I really like.
For example the crystals not affecting humans. I love this idea and would love to expand it in my own AU
I'll make sure to credit you!
👀 OOOOOOO I'd love to see people use human-inphernal stuff!! :D Feel free to borrow as many ideas from this blog as you want!!
(And, if you're ok with it, feel free to ping me whenever as well! I'd love to see whatever you make! :])
aaaaand my final assignment! This time, we had to depict a story about immigration in 10 images (+ one front cover and one back cover).
This was in collaboration with a local immigration center - while they provided us with some stories of their own as groundwork, but we were allowed to use stories from others or our own personal experiences as well.
There were some unique limitations this time around, since these stories had the chance to be displayed by the immigration center:
It had to be an ultimately positive/optimistic story, so the ending couldn't be too depressing.
We couldn't include any personally identifying information.
If it had any writing, it couldn't be too complicated so somebody who's still learning English can still understand it.
While not a strict rule, we were advised not to use multiple panels per image, mostly to keep things simple under the time limit.
I originally wanted to do a story based off of personal experience - I grew up in an Arab country, but my siblings and I were never taught Arabic. Most of the media we consumed and culture nuances we had were from the US too, which led to us having a bit of a disconnect from the culture we were actively living in.
I ultimately had to change stuff around due to the story constraints, though - for example, I already had a bit of an American accent when I moved so nobody picked up that I was from anywhere else by my voice, but the main protagonist here has a noticeable accent for plot progression (their text has more curves, while the American accent is purely straight lines and angles).
I also put in an embarrassing amount of thought into the languages, too - the one the kids speak is based off of English, so I kept the letters blocky and separated. Meanwhile, the one their dad and relatives speak is based off of Arabic, so I took a lot of inspiration from Arabic calligraphy and their large, sweeping letters.
Anyways, I managed to finish this assignment by doing what I do best: waiting until literally the day before and pulling an all-nighter to do most of the sketching and literally all of the inking, colors, and shading. God, I'm so intelligent.
Another assignment, this one being due the same time as the last one.
This time around, it also doubled as a pseudo-book report! We had some required reading for the class - Design is Storytelling by Ellen Lupton. Even though she mostly talks about graphic design, info graphics, and advertising in it, a lot of what she talks about could be applied to many forms of art.
For this assignment, we had to create an info graphic-like story using at least 5 design elements talked about in the book. For some god forsaken reason, I thought that meant we had to make one image for each of them. It wasn't until I submitted this with minutes to spare that I saw that it only had to be one image.
Not to mention, considering the fact that I was pulling an all-nighter for both this and another assignment, there are dozens of glaring mistakes. I literally read the book the day before and did everything else during the night/morning.
Despite ALL of that though, I
somehow
SOMEHOW
got a good grade on it.
(Anyways, I was able to read the book for free here! The website might force you to watch an ad every few pages, but they disappear entirely if you have an adblocker on. It's honestly a super good book - it's informative, short, and the writing itself is easily digestible. Highly recommend it!)
Another assignment! This time, we had to do a four panel story, each with it's own composition (those being framing, foreground/middleground/background, big vs small, and parallel).
We also had to keep consistent character designs (at least one protagonist and antagonist) and environments for it, which meant figuring them out beforehand.
Again, I procrastinated heavily on this. This assignment was due the exact same day as another assignment, so I ended up pulling my very first all-nighter to get both of them done in time.
Another digital illustration and storytelling assignment! This time, we had to pick out a word from a list and make a 3 panel story based around it. I forgot what the whole list was, but the word I went with was "gather."
I went with a much simpler art style this time around, using a shading and lighting style that I tested out in a couple of comics beforehand.
I barely worked on this outside of class, waking up super early the day it was due to ink the second and third images, as well as do all of the shading, lighting, and colors. I barely had enough time left for the colors, so what I did instead was do a super basic greyscale (limiting myself to a handful of shades) and throw together a few colors on top via a color layer on 10-15 percent opacity.
Somehow, despite all the scuff, this was better received than my previous assignment.
I'M FINALLY DONE WITH MY FINALS, YIPPIE! To help celebrate, I'm gonna upload a bunch of the stuff that I made for my digital illustration and storytelling class.
This assignment was the first one after a couple of basic fundamentals - we were supposed to take photos of ourselves and draw over them, mostly as a way to get all of used to using references more often. (I'm NOT that good at rendering skin or drawing hands lol, I just left those bits untouched.)
Even though he said that we were allowed to use any kind of artstyle for this, I guess a part of me didn't believe him?? So I tried to go for a more heavily rendered style that'd blend well with the photographed bits. I'm honestly really happy with how it came out, and I hope to work in this style again sometime!
If I remember properly, I spent most of my time working on most of the second and third images, but had to rush the day and morning before for everything else, including the entire first image. The villain for this and everything that includes/references him was super last minute, lol.
Heya! Quick update for y'all: It's currently finals week for me rn and I'm in the middle of a comic tourney, so I haven't been able to do a whole lot of art outside of all that recently.
I do have some things planned in the future regarding human-inphernal stuff, though! The main thing right now is answering an ask that was wondering what each of the characters' thoughts would be on humans.
I thought that this would be a fun excuse to finally draw every character and work in an art style I've been meaning to experiment with for a while! I already made Sword and Skateboard's thoughts a couple weeks back, but I haven't been able to finish any others yet. I wanted to wait until I was done to show them off here, but I might as well do it now, just to give y'all a sneak peek :3c
(I still haven't figured out what to make the background for these be, rip)
I'm aiming to at least to all of the Phighters, but I hope to do all of the NPCs as well! (Mayyybe even the DITF exclusive cast, but that's less likely.)
Omg wth,I Accidently put my question on Anonymous..Im so sorry :')
Im just gonna write the Question again but in Public now this time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Ive been seeing ur content for awhile now and i gotta say ITS SO GOOD,i like the concept of Inphernals and Humans,especially since ive been yearning for content of it.
So kinda like a quick small yap session/question
-How would like,Inphernals react if they realize Humans can get Hurt more,bleed more yknow,and have like life threatening Diseases yknow? and How they can have Phobias and uhh Diagnosis like example a Inphernal meets a Human who has depression like that.
-And also how would they react to seeing like a Human with an Amputatep Arm,leg,etc especially since a child can have a Amputated part yeah.
Thats really all i can ask,and laso its my first time Asking so there might be some errors here and there,Hope you answer my question!! ^^
-Amy/Sayori[hehe]
HIIIII Sorry that it took me five million billion years to answer your ask-
Anyways, yes, humans are incredibly fragile compared to inphernals! This can easily come as a shock to them, even if they were given ample warning beforehand. It's one thing to hear that we're super squishy, but it's a whole other to see a human get grievously injured by what they consider to be some light friendly roughhousing.
It's only natural for a more friendly inphernal to want to treat an injured human, what with how endearing they may find us. However, if an inphernal lacks a strong sense of self-restraint, then going up to a bleeding human could lead to some...
...adverse effects, to say the least.
As for stuff like phobias and mental illnesses, that's another thing we have more in common with inphernals! Though, it definitely depends on the culture - I'd imagine that a place like Blackrock would see these things as a source of shame and mockery, while a place like the Crossroads would be far more open and understanding.
While inphernals have amputations and permanent injuries all of the time, it can still be a bit of a shock to see a human with those same injuries. An inphernal having some kind of explosive weapon as a gear is a bit of a no-brainer for why they'd have more than a few dents, but their more infantilizing nature towards humans makes it difficult to imagine them seriously hurt (especially if it was caused by another human).
I'd imagine that inphernals with similar disabilities would be more likely to treat them as equals because of it, but the babying from others would just get even worse, rip </3
(Yawns) Hey guys I'm back from my 30 minute nap (checks current date) OH SWEET SANTAS SARSAPARILLA!!!
I'm so sorry for dropping off the face of the earth like that y'all </3 It wasn't for anything big, just a mix of procrastination, school stress, and working on some of my own projects.
I am still planning on coming back to Human-Inphernal art and worldbuilding sometime soon, though! I still think about it a lot, and there are a whole bunch of ideas rattling in my head for it. I even have an outline written for a short fic with a disguised human, lol.
Other than that though, there's been a couple of other things that I've been up to while I was gone! Most of it is stuff with OCs over on EnterVOID, so I'll put my ramblings under the cut here.
OK.
SO.
I've been working on some stuff with my OCs for OC battling! For folks who don't know, OC battling is where you and another artist challenge each other to a duel and you both write/draw/animate both of your characters interacting with each other in some way, all under a time limit. It works as a challenge to improve yourself, a way to finally tell stories with your OCs, and as an art trade since you'll both get to see what the other person did with your own character!
There are a bunch of different ways this could go about, like Original Character Tournaments or websites specifically dedicated to them like EnterVOID or Hyun's Dojo. I'm trying to do comics on Void rn and even made a few while I was gone :]
I have a couple others on the site, but here's my main character, Felix! He's a robot with super strength that looks like a teenager/young adult, but is actually 11 years old, lol.
I made a couple of comics with him, like this silly short one since I was gone from the site for a while.
I also finished up a battle with a super cool artist named Fuu a couple weeks back! You can find both of our entries over here - I HIGHLY recommend checking out their side of the battle! I love the way they write, especially their dialogue <3 Also the height difference between my character and theirs is hysterical LMAO
I'm planning on doing some more comics soon too, so I might post them up here. (I'll probably give my Void stuff its own special tag so people who're here just for my Phighting stuff can filter it out if they like.)
There's this superhero themed tag-team tournament that the site's gonna host soon and I made him a magical girl dress for it and everything :]
Sorry for rambling about this one singular site for so long, lol.
...BUUUUT if anybody wanted to ask me more about it... or perhaps join the site themselves and comment under people's comics and maybe even battle me in the future......... Perhaps? 👀
Just wanna give you guys a bit of a heads up - I'm expecting to lose power for the next couple of days, so I won't be able to respond to asks during that time. I should be able to have some internet access whenever I leave the house though, so I should still be able to see responses and new asks!
Also as a bit of a status update, I currently have seven asks left to get to right as of now. I'm planning on doing each of them in the order that that they came in.
There's a small chance that I miiiiight close asks temporarily, but I'm hoping that I can do all of my silly doodles quickly enough that I won't have to worry about them piling up! Super excited to get back to everybody soon! :D
Side note, how do you think the inphernals would react to human fiction?
Like on one side, we have stories of hope and love, which is something they would expect from a species that is a lot less violent then they are.
But on the other side we have stuff like Lovecrafts works and The King in yellow, which i, for one, would gladly explain the concept of cosmic horrors to the inphernals.
And then we have stuff like fnaf that you need atleast 3 energy drinks worth of caffein and a whiteboard to properly explain.
"Yeah and once hes done he stuffs the bodies into the robots, which is why theyre possesing them.
"...what"
"Dont worry, afton gets got later.
TLDR: telling inphernals about fnaf lore is a good idea, i think
YESSS I think that they'd find a lot of human fiction pretty interesting, even if there actually is a lot of overlap. There's definitely a lot of genres and styles we have that the Inpherno's developed as well, such as theatre performances and radio shows.
For some reason though, I'm really fond of the idea that musicals in particular are far more rare in the Inpherno. I'd imagine that they'd latch onto human musicals pretty hard, due to being how fun and unique they are to them. It's partially because they'd find the idea of stories told through a bunch of catchy songs absolutely adorable, though - kinda reinforces the idea that humans are innocent little cutie pies.
A lot of myths and fairytales would be pretty interesting as well, especially the ones that involve gods. Many older myths tend to write their behavior based off of what they are representing rather than making the characters people (ex: Hades kidnapping Persephone partially to show how death can come for anyone, no matter how young). Meanwhile, stories about Inphernal gods such as the SFOTH are mostly based off of rumors or just true events.
This is part of the reason why I find the idea that cosmic horror as something unique to humanity super interesting. Since we don't have any gods waltzing around in the flesh, we've been left with a lot of time and room to speculate, which has led to some unbelievably HORRIFYING stories.
Honestly, this could extend to a lot of our horror. Yes, the Inpherno has plenty of horror stories too (I like to imagine that slasher films are already popular in the Crossroads), but a lot of them might avoid the more psychological aspects of it. Especially stories that plays around heavily with the balance of innocence and disgust.
Something that they'd definitely find interesting though is our children's media. Canonically, Inphernals are spawned rather than born. I'd imagine that they'd be spawned at an older age, like a newly spawned Inphernal would be like a 7-12 year old human or something.
This would probably lead to most Inphernal kids media being far more education focused. They're basically just speed running through a bunch of the necessities and how the world works. The vast majority of Inphernal entertainment is more focused on adults and occasionally the older kids that are almost adults.
The fact that we put in so much time, effort, and man-hours in making children's media entertaining would probably be pretty interesting to them! I could totally see Saturday morning cartoons getting super popular in the Crossroads and Playground.
(Honestly, I can see most animation being super popular, from indie pilots to 8 season animes.)
Circling back to your ask, I do think trying to explain FnaF lore to an Inphernal would be very very funny-
I could imagine stuff like games or shows with super intricate lore could be popular with like... fringe nerd groups. They'd dedicate hours upon hours to it but would rather die than admit that they like it to anybody that isn't also into it. It'd be like admitting you're into DnD back in the 80's.
wait if humans arent affected by crystals at all does that mean i could kiss subspace, sloppy style even, without worrying about getting poisoned??? Golly gee!!!
IM FREE YIPPIE!!! Just finished my last assignment and came back home a little while ago! I'm hoping to finally get to one of the asks by the end of the day.
There's also a lot of other human-inphernal stuff that's been brewing in my head for the past week, so I'm SUPER excited to get into them soon, too!! I just hope that I can keep this motivation up throughout the break, lol.
