Hi. I’ve got more stuff from Impulse comics I would like to place here about the neurodivergent Bart head cannon (More specifically autistic and ADHD comorbid) and want to talk about it again.
(ID: A panel from a comic, containing a close image of impulse’s face as he clutches either sides of his head looking distressed. There is speech bubble that says “Head Hurts” -ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
So this has occurred multiple times with him, I believe also in the Young Justice (1998) comic series as well. Bart will over think things and get stress headaches, and like yeah, I totally get that and that’s also more common in folks who have adhd. Like trying to fix a problem really hard and go over info but running into a wall and trying to brute force through it just to end up with a headache. Also anger too at times.
(ID- A panel from a comic, Impulse flails his hands eagerly excited after having tracked Max Mercury down, max looks forward serious and mildly annoyed. In a speech bubble Bart says “I found you! All by myself! Except for some help that doesn’t really count” -ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
Also look at this kid excitedly stimming. He’s so happy about having just found Max, especially after earlier being stressed and not sure of how to go about doing so.
(ID- Two comic panels.
Comic panel one: Impulse crosses his arms looking annoyed with the situation, he says “What do we do then?” Max looks annoyed at Bart’s behavior and says “Nothing. We wait and see what develops.”
Panel two: Bart is implied to be fidgeting/vibrating and he looks irritated with that responses and says “I hate waiting to see what develops!” Max looks directly at him and says “news flash”-ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
This part is a good example of his inability to stay still. Like I relate to this. How does one simply just do nothing and wait. What is one supposed to do when one is waiting for something.
(ID: Two images
-Image one: three comic panels. Panel one- Bart’s friends Preston and Carol look on worried. Panel two- An over view of Impulse(Bart) with a bunch of bullets coming towards him from the front and back, he says “Here must be a billion bullets! I better not slow down!” Panel three- a bust view of impulse, he looks serious at a 3/4ths angle as he says “let’s see… I could blow them back. That’ll kill all the terrorists and all the bystanders including Carol and Preston. And if I try to catch them all, there’s so many, my hands’ll fry. And if I miss one…”
-Image two: A comic panel. In it Max Mercury points. Impulse can be seen many times in the one panel as he runs about looking for a spot to his panicked repeating the word “Hide!” -ID end) (Image one form -Issue 29, image two From -Issue 31 (Impulse(1995)))
And then there is Bart either being calm and able to assess a situation, or completely being overwhelmed by the fact that he doesn’t know what to do and so is extra restless. Either one or the other no in between. The excess energy always there, either he is able to direct that into functioning or other times it just feels overwhelmed.
(ID: A comic panel, Impulse is seen pacing as he ponders what to do to escape the situation they are in. He says “I can fix this! All we have to do is… No wait. that won’t work, we could…No. They’d catch us.I know…. No. We’d all be dead. Yes! No.” -ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
This in I’m not sure if it’s directly related to neurodivergency but I am neurodivergent and do this shit and my neurotypical friend hates hearing me do it because it bothers him that I just rattle off half statements while I try to work through a problem in my head. Sometimes it’s a situation a map to do a task, or even just math number calculations.
(ID: A comic panel, Impulse looks panicked and repeats in his head several times what Max instructed him to do "Don't run in until he show's the control! -ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
(ID: A comic panel, Impulse looks on as repeats in his head several times what Max instructed him to do "Don't run in until he show's the control! " And the man reveals the controller and exclaims about the bomb and is then punched by a different man-ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
(ID: A comic panel, Impulse looks on as repeats in his head several times what Max instructed him to do "Don't run in until he show's the control! " He continues to looked panicked as he repeats the instructions in his head several times before realizing the control has been revealed and the guy as been subdued and he hadn't run in when he was supposed to-ID End) (From -Impulse(1995) Issue 31)
And the repeating instructions someone gave you to try to remember to do it intern forgetting to do the actual instructions are super relatable to me. Like. Accidentally focusing too much on not forgetting what you were told that you just simply fail to actually process what the words mean and what you are actually supposed to do due to it not being something you can immediately address.
This post ended up sort of long and mostly about one issue so I will just cut it off here. I probably am going to prattle about more neurodivergent Impulse comic stuff later or stuff I find relatable to it as someone who is both autistic and has adhd. Till then have a nice night! 🤙✨🌙
