I really hate this website sometimes and all its bullshit. So many people here spout holier-than-thou 'I am enlightened' social justice crap, while still doing everything to further the same hate they're apparently against.
I see SO MANY POSTS about how "fat girls are beautiful too!", how weight means nothing, about how WE ARE BEAUTIFUL. But then, EVERY post I see with a picture, you have your fat girl with her hourglass figure, small waist, ginormous breasts, perky ass and perfect hair and face. And yeah, those girls are beautiful. But you can't just use examples of fat girls who still fit all societies stereotypes about beauty. Never once have I seen a "pretty fat girl" post that got any real number of notes where the girl didn't have huge boobs to put everything into 'typically pretty' proportions, and never have I seen any "beautiful fat girl" on my dash who had visible stretch marks or obvious cellulite, and very very rarely do they have 'rolls' of fat. It's as if you're saying, with the lack of diversity in what is fat AND beautiful, you can be fat and pretty but only if your breasts are massive and your face and skin are perfect and you're still perky and firm and don't sag.

^^there's nothing wrong with any of these posts, but when that's 99% of all I see being reblogged, it's like to be fat and still beautiful you still have to fit all these stereotypes. (There were more I wanted to include, but they have disappeared from my dash. Even the popular attractive fat girl posts aren't common).

^^tags with "lol fatty", "fat cunts", "I hate fat people" - are we even still people in these posts? No.
Many more like them are candid pictures of overweight people that are posted for people to laugh at, gawk at or just be grossed out by. It’s always a jab at back fat, cellulite, double chins, etc. For all you ‘fat-positive’ people out there, THIS is what a lot of fat people look like. And while there’s the ‘issue of health’ argument that’s hardly stopped anyone reblogging anorexic models or the ‘thigh gap’ craze. Half of what you see on tumblr tells you to love yourself and your curves, even though the curves you see praised are not your curves, they’re nothing like your curves, and meanwhile the curves that look closer to yours are constantly there for amusement or disgust. I’ve never seen a post of overweight girls like the ones in the 2nd set of links that said they were beautiful. I don’t ever expect to.
A lot of the “beautiful fat girl” posts I see are just bigger thin girls. Everything in proportion, hourglass-shape figure, perfect skin, no fat buildup in the neck and face. Like you’ve just stretched out all the perfected proportions of a thin girl.
I’m no artist, I have no art software, but that’s as much as I can show you. The proportions needed to still be a recognised form of beautiful are the same. For fat girls, they’re stretched. It’s still the same though. I haven’t seen any posts about fat girls who don’t fit them. There’s just as many body types for fat people as there are for thin people, but somehow “fat” just seems to cover them all. Whenever you see body diversity, it’s always a range of thin people with varying body types, and then one who’s not thin but maybe not exactly fat. If they are fat, they still fit those parameters. As far as the posts go on tumblr here's what I'm talking about:
That’s as clear as I can put it. What tumblr likes to think is that by posting the very limited, exclusionary ‘fat-positive’ posts like the types above, that covers the whole spectrum of fat people. It doesn’t. It covers A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE. The only posts I’ve ever seen that reached out to a larger number of overweight people, nearly always girls (I think I have seen only ONE aimed at men), are positive drawings by some artists. About 1/3 don’t fit the requirements of typical fat beauty. The thing is, tumblr seems to think that by reblogging one photoset of a fat girl, usually a plus-size model, who still has all the proportions of a thin girl only bigger, that this somehow makes up for all the crappy jokes and candid pics and just general hate. I never watched it, but I remember when Honey Boo Boo’s mom was apparently a great source for cheap laughs at a fat woman (especially since she didn’t give two hoots about her looks, and good on her). There were tonnes of sarcastic reaction images. No one’s calling her beautiful. The closest anyone got to that was when people figured out they were actually decent folk worthy of some respect. It’s as if fat people have to PROVE they’re not just the punchline to some basic joke that just boils down to “lol fat”.
A lot of this is centered around girls, but that’s just because it’s all I see. Only one post have I ever seen on body positivity for overweight men. There’s a huge lack in posts about fat girls displaying POCs, as well, and I don’t think I’ve seen a single one for trans* people. I don’t feel qualified to speak on those issues.
It's increasingly hard to accept tumblr's chorus of "just be happy with yourselves!" "you are beautiful too!" "beauty is diverse!" etc when this is the kind of image we're given.
I don’t even know how to round this off. I’m just so tired of tumblr and its double standards.
