I bring a kind of frozen deer vibe to situations that the headlights really seem to like
i don’t know what exactly the canon level of the descendants tie in books are but imagining all that shit happened to red less than a year before the first movie is insane. she is far too mentally well.
ran out of things to run to or away from. what now
Chloe Charming is not beating the autistic lesbian allegations.
Red: *wants love*
Red: *gets love*
also Red: *doesn’t know what to do with it*
Hazel my girl Hazel. Girl who doesn't rely on others but is willing to let others rely on her. Can we get some hurt-comfort where she's the one getting comforted.
original timeline chessy
maybe i’ve been there / maybe you’ve been there
New ask game :] Number 4 I think would be interesting with the Dangers, individually and as a group. Where would you drop the beloved menace children if you had the chance?
:D <3
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
ohhh excellent question, thank you kyo!! <3
hmm, i can't decide whether to drop them into media crossover-style or AU-style, so i shall simply assume that i can do either one. <3
so let's see, starting with them individually-
chapa: listen. there is currently a page in my notes app that looks like This:
so. i am taking this opportunity to drop chapa into the plot of the 2026 supergirl movie, AU-style. <3
and she can fill ruthye's role in the narrative. which would be heartwrenching and devastating, but! she would also get to have a sword. <3
(and i would Also drop piper and jasper into the movie as per the Beautiful Diagram above, but. this ask is not about Them. <3)
bose: dropping bose into parallels 2022, crossover-style.
this is because i desperately want bose o'brien and romane berthauds to be friends. :) they have so much in common and i think they would be such a nice duo. <3
duo with terrible stepdads that gave them so many issues. duo where they both love their friends so so much and keep fondly bringing them into every conversation. duo of two very sweet and physically affectionate kids who are also in desperate need of reassurance that they aren't going to be left behind by everyone in their life.
and- hmm i don't remember if french was one of the languages bose was learning during the quarantine episode, but. assuming for the sake of the fun crossover potential that french is one of the languages he's working on. so he can have a nice time improving his french while he is dropped into parallels. <3
also sdlkslskk giggling at the thought of bose hanging out in romane's room and the two comparing the Plots of their respective lives. and romane carefully bringing up the subject of victor's time-acceleration powers, expecting- well. she doesn't know what reaction she was expecting from this kid, but it definitely wasn't "oh, cool. my ex-girlfriend could do that, too. she's from space."
and they can do cool tricks to show off their powers and then be so very impressed with each other's powers. <3 bose can casually mention how cool she is and romane can mess with his hair and they can have a nice happy dynamic. <3 i think that would be very fun and cute. <3
miles: dropping miles into the percy jackson books, either AU-style or crossover-style. <3
i think it would be really fun and interesting to put him in the PJO universe. (well. i technically already Did put him in a PJO AU, but! pretending that i didn't already do that. <3)
miles with his themes of predetermined destiny and guidance from the universe. miles with his increasing anxiety around the threat of losing people the further we get into canon. miles with his teleportation and future-vision abilities. miles with his recurring insistence that fighting won't solve all their problems. miles with his easygoing friendliness combined with his refusal to blindly follow authority.
so. i think miles specifically would make a very compelling demigod in the percy jackson universe. <3
mika: dropping mika into the plot of "the unlisted" (2019), AU-style. <3
technically, i would have to drop both twins into it for the plot to work, but miles already got his answer; this one is focused on mika. :)
(and also Technically i have already contemplated a dangerverse + "the unlisted" AU in my notes app with almost all the main characters assigned to roles in the plot, but. this is not about Them. this is about mika. <3)
i just think it would be very interesting for mika to be in a series where the plot crucially revolves around 1) mind control devices being implanted into kids without their knowledge. 2) twins who can successfully impersonate each other when the situation calls for it. 3) a group of stressed, exhausted kids exposing a corrupt global organization funded by billionaires while hiding from the government, fearing for their family's lives, and also loving their friends so so much.
i think she would have a nice time. <3 well actually. that is a lie. <3 i think she would be absolutely miserable no matter which twin i put her in the role of. (due to a mix-up, one of the twin protagonists has two mind control implants, the other has none.) but it would be very interesting to see her handle those situations while having several near-breakdowns in the process. and then she could have lots of well-deserved comfort and rest at the end. <3
as a group: as a group, i am dropping all four of the beloved menace children into the disney descendants movies + books, AU-style. <3 which seems like a slightly unfair answer, since i've already started writing some of a descendants AU for them, but!! consider my Excellent Argument in favor of this: they can have hypothetical catchy musical songs. they can have traumatic childhoods. they can have all sorts of delightful magic-based subplots. they can have found family trope. they can have swords. :)
and-!! dropping them into the entire descendants franchise means that i can get two whole AUs out of it: one for the general plot vibes of the first arc movies, one for the general plot vibes of the second arc movies. :) <3
so. that is my Excellent Argument in favor of dropping the dangers into the descendants franchise. they would be so fun... <3
and those are my lovely thoughts on what media i would like to drop the beloved kids into. :) <3
(on a scale from how much fun they are having, from most fun to least fun: bose in parallels 2022, miles in the percy jackson books, all four kids in the descendants movies + books, mika in the unlisted 2019, and chapa in supergirl 2026.)
thanks for the ask!! :D <3
actually deeply unwell about the way every single line chessie is taunting red with in the labyrinth is either something that's been directly verbalized to her- (chloe's "ruthless" and "selfish," bridget's "you're such a disappointment.") or something that's been directly verbalized to her with a few words removed- (max's "ruined my life" being the paraphrased version of his "you ruined my chances at a normal life.")
-except. except for the "hard to love" line.
that's the only line that was never actually spoken to her, even though it's treated with the exact same weight as all the others that were.
that's the one line chessie had to have pulled straight from red's own beliefs.
anyways. she is Ruining My Life. <3
made a descendants rise of red/wicked wonderland shapeshifting AU. :) here you go. <3
Shapeshifting AU animals:
Red: Abyssinian cat.
Chloe: Blue heeler dog.
Max: Northern raven.
Pink: Pebble-mound mouse.
Hazel: Vancouver coastal sea wolf.
Luis: Jaguar.
Felix: Pickerel frog.
Robbie: Red fox.
Squeaky: Giant pacific octopus.
Squirmy: Flapjack octopus.
Shapeshifting AU notes:
Red:
red's still doing all the leaping and parkour in her intro song- except! AU red is shapeshifted during that scene, and is doing all of that as a cat :)
abyssinian cats have a history of being associated with royalty, tying into red's princess status.
abyssinian cat fur is also red. <3
Chloe:
blue heelers are known for being intelligent, loyal, and very active/hardworking.
they're also sometimes called "shadow dogs" because they don't like being on their own without their people. :( <3
they're herding dogs, which seems like it could go well with the little bit of knight motif that chloe has.
cute visual of chloe shifting into a little blue heeler puppy dog after fencing with her dad, all proud and happy and tail wagging and jumping at her parents with all the delighted excitement that always feels more fitting in the shifted form... <3
blue heeler fur is also blueish, hence the name. <3
Max:
ravens have those cool dramatic/ ominous vibes; they're also very clever corvids.
AU maddox can shift into a dodo. so max & maddox are both birds, mirroring max's feeling that he's always been in his father's shadow.
ravens being seen as omens/prophetic birds could somehow tie into how the dominoes fell to ruin max's life as a result of time travel. something about fate and destiny. something about interfering with it. something about how someone was meant to end up here, but it was never meant to be you. but it is. and here you are.
fun potential for referencing that one bit from alice in wonderland, where the mad hatter's unsolvable riddle to alice was about the difference between a raven and a writing desk. <3
Pink:
cute, non-threatening animal.
associated with a famous wonderland character, the dormouse from alice in wonderland.
very tiny animal- perhaps a bit of a connection to pink having the cookies that can make people grow?
fun visual of someone having pink sitting in the pocket of their jacket, carrying her around while she delightedly looks at everything around them. <3
pebble-mound mice often have pinkish fur around their tails/paws/noses. :)
known for collecting pebbles to pile around their homes; a bit of a fun tie-in to pink & red having that box of small treasures and trinkets. <3
Hazel:
unique wolf species due to having a semi-aquatic lifestyle, tying into the whole pirate thing.
large canine animal to contrast luis having a large feline animal; they're both shapeshifted during "did you hear about them" to be more Intimidating and Cool. <3
somewhat lines up with her one conversation with chloe where she was talking about red being the alpha and such.
hazel in wolf form has every single wolf instinct Fully Certain that max, felix, and the twins are part of her pack, so therefore- subconsciously placing their shifted forms into the category of Also Wolves. except they are Not wolves, they're all much smaller animals- so hazel keeps almost knocking them over when they're shifted because the wolf instincts are forgetting that they are Smaller Animals, she Cannot just tackle them like that-
sometimes there is a wolf curled around a frog, a raven, and two pirate kids (the smee twins don't shift as often as their friends, due to having much more aquatic animals.) and they are all sleeping :) and no one is Ever allowed to mention this without getting either stabbed by a hook or bitten by a wolf. depending on hazel's mood. <3
Luis:
large feline animal to contrast hazel having a large canine animal, making "did you hear about them" even more fun.
and now there is a Big Intimidating Feline/Canine Duo- who. are not actually the main characters of this movie :) yeah, the main characters- you're looking for Those Two Over There- the little kitty cat and puppy dog feline/canine duo :) which is very fun and silly to me <3
luis's shifted form happens to be a Very Similar jaguar to the one antonio has in encanto. and coincidentally, that one jaguar has Also had cubs by now. and they have grown up into several jaguars that all look Very Similar to luis when he's shifted. so, therefore. luis as a kid pre-canon would get overwhelmed by something or other, shift into a jaguar, and go chill with antonio's jaguars for a while. and if anyone comes to get him, he refuses to shift back at first, making them guess which jaguar is actually luis. which is a guessing game his family members usually get right, but. lots of emphasis on how Very Similar his shifted form looks to the other jaguars. so, sometimes an adult would spend two and a half minutes talking calmly to a Normal Jaguar about how it's okay if he's feeling stressed and needed a break, that's fine, but please tell someone where you're going next time, your mom's been looking for you, and- and it is at that point that they notice the Other jaguar in the corner seems to be trying not to giggle, and- oh, come on, luis, again-??concept that i think is very fun and cute. <3
Felix:
his dad's whole thing was turning people into frogs, and dr. facilier was a good dad in D3, so! the fun potential of dr. facilier holding tiny little kid felix, telling him stories about how he turned some people into frogs that one time- and tiny felix who can Also turn into a frog, asking his dad questions about that- what kinds of frogs, was it kind of like how he can be a frog sometimes-? and the general vibes of the answer always being: Well. they were Boring and Mediocre Frogs, and you are So Much Better at being a frog than they ever were. you are the Most impressive frog. and also the Only impressive frog. because the others were all wretched and miserable and ruined our lives and such. <3
he can hop up to sit in the brim of max's hat as a frog. :)
can also perch on hazel's head as a frog when she's in wolf form. <3
the pickerel frog is native to louisiana; it's also semi-aquatic, tying into most of felix's friend group being pirates.
Robbie:
a red fox just like disney's robin hood. <3
when felix & robbie show up again after being stuck in the ocean, it is as a soaking wet fox with a frog sitting on his head and clinging to the fur very tightly. <3
the cultural norm in shapeshifter AU nottingham is to spend more time in the shifted forms than the human ones; due to spending so much time shifted, most people there have learned to verbally speak and walk bipedally while in their shifted forms. buildings, clothing, and other aspects of day-to-day life generally accommodate the shifted forms rather than the human ones. (extremely fun concept from @kyodoesstuff <3)
robbie never learned to walk bipedally in the fox form- not very well, anyways- but he's the only one who can verbally speak while shifted if he really focuses.
Squeaky:
aquatic animal to go with the pirate theme.
matches his brother, but keeps the height difference; a giant pacific octopus is a fairly large animal. <3
Squirmy:
aquatic animal to go with the pirate theme.
matches his brother, but keeps the height difference; a flapjack octopus is a very tiny animal. <3
(thank you @kyodoesstuff for the delightful octopus idea for the twins <3)
shapeshifting AU for the wicked wonderland kids :) <3
still thinking about that movie. analysis/headcanon concept thing that i've been rotating in my head. <3
first, we see pink & chloe's conversation about red- ("it's so hard to be her sister sometimes." "it's hard to be her friend." "do you think red knows that?" "i don't know, pink.")
and then, exactly 17 minutes later into the movie, we see chessie taunting red with voices replaying her failures and insecurities- specifically. the voice emphasizing that she's "hard to love".
so. "do you think red knows that-" Yes. yes actually i think she is absolutely tormenting herself with the ever-present thought of it actually-
red, who's been raised believing that she's hard to love. red, who opened an entire song in "rise of red" with lyrics about how she's desperately searching for a flicker of love for her in her mother's eyes, about how all she was is a girl reaching out for her mother's love and being denied over and over.
and now there are people who love her, but- she doesn't know what to do with that. she never learned how to handle that.
and she can see what she's doing- well. she can technically see that she's hurting chloe and pink by constantly brushing them aside, but. she's not really seeing it. because she still hasn't fully processed that they love her, they care about her, the things she says and does matter to them-
she's not used to that. so- she's not paying much attention, because she doesn't think anyone else is paying much attention either.
and- she's getting along pretty well with everyone around her now. everyone's looking to her as they go through wonderland- but without the shadow of a looming blade that always used to hang over attention like that. she's something she never was before. she's someone who didn't go through her own childhood- and she wants to keep it that way.
so chloe gets brushed aside. (chloe knows, she knows, she knows what red's like, what she's actually like, knows that this life wasn't actually hers. chloe's the one link to what everything was like before- and that idea is partially a comfort, but partially a threat. because- chloe knows who she really is, and- that's slightly terrifying, if she thinks about it for too long.)
so pink gets brushed aside. (pink doesn't know, she doesn't know- she's the clearest distinction between timelines, she's someone this version of red is supposed to know and love- and red doesn't know her. and the dread of letting something drop there, of letting something slip- pink is the one person she won't always be able to bluff her way through interacting with. because- pink knows who she's supposed to be, and- that's slightly terrifying, if she thinks about it for too long.)
and it's hurting pink and chloe, but- red doesn't fully process that for a while. because she's not looking for that, she's not expecting that- how much could they possibly care about the attention she's paying to them?
she just met pink- (but she's known you and looked up to you her whole life, she loves you, you're hurting her-)
and she's only known chloe a few days- (but she's lonely and you're the only somewhat steady thing in her life right now, she loves you, you're hurting her-)
well. she's hard to love, she knows that. always has been. always will be. (so. might as well just let it happen-) (…right?)
so. that's my concept about red's mindset during the movie. <3
forming many more thoughts on her as well. girl who is desperate to be loved but doesn't know how to handle it when she finally is. girl who was never actually hard to love but is still making things so much harder for the people who love her and doesn't know there's a difference yet. red my beloved daughter...your numerous issues are so very fascinating to me and i adore you. <3
made a playlist. :) guys you don't understand she is So deeply fascinating and compelling and devastating to me. disney do you hear me. if you're going to put that girl into the Torment Microwave then i want you to commit to it. red my beloved daughter...she has So Many Issues... <3 <3 <3
okay so @sanguineed and @normal-cactus1221 are my heroes of ever and offered even the tiniest amount of interest in my many many descendants wicked wonderland character ideas (and i simply do not have time to actually draw my idealized versions of these characters right now) so here are all my beautiful thoughts on how to make the Ten Main Character Cast of the new movie work better:
Pink:
Pink needs to be even more Wonderland-y. She isn't the heir, she isn't her mother's favorite, but she loves Wonderland and is so enmeshed in her own culture that it actually makes her sort of Off Putting to the people of Auradon?
Everyone loves her!! They think she's cute and funny and Sweet and good in small doses!! But she has a very hard time making close friendships because people think she's weird
Since Descendants is already stealing Everything Else from Ever After High, I'm stealing Riddlish (the, essentially, like Cultural Wonderland Language, even though everyone also speaks English) and giving it to this movie.
Pink loves speaking in Riddlish, and is fully fluent, and throughout the movie she keeps trying to have asides with Red in it so they can more privately discuss what's going on. But!! In Red's version of Wonderland Riddlish has more or less been totally eradicated, so she Can't have conversations in it. She might speak a phrase or two, because the old version of Maddox taught her, but she doesn't actually know the language. But to Pink, it just looks like Red is intentionally blowing her off.
This just adds to her feelings of abandonment and betrayal, because not only is her sister, and best friend (who she clearly looks up to) totally ignoring her, and acting like she's this inconvenient annoyance, but now her Only Close Cultural Touchstone and person who can relate to these things is acting like she's not even from the same place. (She's not.)
I also think Pink is significantly more anti-VK, but it should be made very, very clear that this is because of Her timeline's Red. Like, she's even more clearly upset and confused when Red sides with the VKs because SHE is the one who told Pink they aren't trustworthy!! She is the one who said Max Hatter was a dangerous jerk she should keep her distance from!! And now she's acting like she's one of them?? When Max's dad is literally holding their mom hostage?? What's Going On???
It's already sort of a point in the movie, but I do think every aspect of Pink, especially at the start, should lean Hard into the fact that she looks up to Red so much that she's actively trying to copy the version of her from this time line. She's not Great at it, because she's a different person, but she should be clearly trying to play at someone she's not, and getting frustrated that not only is it not working, but now RED isn't acting like herself anymore Either.
Max Hatter:
I really think Max works well in this movie, but I think he should Parallel Pink more, in that the Old Pre Time Travel version of him loved Wonderland as much as she does now.
He probably spoke Riddlish, and was fascinated by everything about it, even in the worse time line when things were less pretty and silly and whimsical
It adds an extra layer of Red Stole His Life, because she literally gave her little sister a core aspect of his personality, and adds to the tragedy and guilt Red has to feel when looking at how much he's changed
To contrast, I think this time line's Max should actively be putting in all his effort to separate himself from Wonderland. He hates it, and he hates everything about it, and he doesn't want people to have another excuse to compare him to his dad, so he's visually fully a VK instead of a Wonderland-ian
They do this in the movie, but I want him trying to be a good guy to be even more explicit. He's NICE! He's just angsty, and he hates Red and Pink! But no one trusts him, no matter what he tries, and I want that to be so so obvious.
Hazel Hook:
Hazel Hook is genuinely perfect the only thing that needs to change is she needs to have a Scottish accent. Her brother has a Scottish accent. Where is her Scottish accent?? PLEASE??
Smee Twins:
My babies. My angels. They're going to be Less identical, but even more weird about it.
Like, they aren't wearing exactly the same outfit, but they're still well coordinated, and they're incredibly codependent. They're allowed to be weird, codependent twins, just also make them their own characters too.
I think they're more of a Brains and Brawn combination, now. They're both still silly and hyperactive, but Squeaky (tiny smee) is the book smart twin, whose more observant and good at plans, and Squirmy (tall smee) is the more athletic twin, whose lifting their friends above his head and punching people. To be clear,,., they're both still Stupid. But Squeaky gets to be Smart-Stupid. It's allowed.
(This is literally just based on their canon Auradon application. the franchise decided in d3 that squeaky liked school, and reading, and writing, and squirmy just tags along. they had this already. why didn't they use this.)
Squeaky is fully nonverbal. It's kind of weird that he's not already? In the first movie, obviously neither of them speak, but in this one Squeaky straight up has, like, three lines, they're very early on, two are perfectly in synch with his brother, and then later in the movie he literally just..,., doesn't speak? Even when it's weird that he's not verbally responding, because he's the only other person in a conversation.
So, like, lean into it. Squeaky is just nonverbal, and when he needs to communicate with another character, or say a stupid joke in synch with his brother (because i think thats cute) he just uses ASL (auradonian sign language, obviously).
Honestly, I think it's MORE fun to have him and Squirmy say lines in synch, but he's just signing. Their little 'pride of the upperclass' part rules if Squirmy is singing it and Squeaky is signing it with the same exact vibes. This is a no brainer to me.
Important to note!! He doesn't sign when he's talking to Squirmy. I want to to be genuinely unclear if they have full magical, super natural power twin telepathy. Like, Squeaky gets an idea, just makes silent eye contact with his brother for two seconds, and Squirmy immediately turns to the group, and goes: 'Hey, guys so Squeaky thinks that we should do this--'
Chronic nightmare havers after they got Sleeping Cursed when they were like, nine, in D3. (All the VKs know about them because they have sleepovers all the time.)
They also get their glasses back. Where are their glasses? Give them back they can't see :(
The VKs, Chloe, and Robbie know which one is Squeaky and which one is Squirmy, and Pink didn't, but she just asked and they told her, because they genuinely don't care. Red and Luis have literally no clue which one is which. Red could not care less, has not asked, and maybe doesn't know their first names to begin with, but Luis is absolutely MORTIFIED. He feels Cripplingly guilty about it, he's woken himself up in a cold sweat worrying about it, but he just... will not ask because he feels bad. Once again, they Would just tell him. They would not care.
They're how the VK friend group came together. They grew up with Hazel on the Isle, and then Celia introduced Felix to them as soon as the barrier dropped, since they're the same age, and, tbh, I think it's fun if they made friends with Max first, because they don't care about who people's parents are, and then immediately dragged Hazel into it so she could Force him to be her best friend
Felix Facilier:
I know he likes magic in the movie already, but I wanna lean into it more. He's literally a walking magical encyclopedia, and is always looking to learn more about it, so he Loves Wonderland.
Like, their lives are On the line, Max's dad is actively sending things to attack him and the whole time he's going: 'GUYS! this is so COOL!! how does it work!!! :D'
I think he's really good at the cold reading part of fortune telling, so he's observant, and excellent at clocking when people are lying, or feel weird about something
But!! He mostly just only uses that skill ^^ to mess with people and make sure his friends are okay. He picks up on the Chloe and Red tension IMMEDIATELY, but he's not saying anything about it, he's just sitting back with metaphorical popcorn and waiting to see how this shit plays out.
Kind of the secret emotional backbone of his friend group, but he's also puppet mastering that shit like it's his job, so no one would think it on the surface
Robbie Hood:
Okay, so, I think I have too many thoughts about Robbie because, holy shit, there has never been a more pointless character and I love him and I need to give him a reason to exist.
Starting off: The strongest general consensus I have seen from people about D5 is they're relieved that they didn't make Robbie Hood a Fox Boy.
I've made him a Fox Boy.
Not fully, like he's not an anthropomorphic fox, but I do think he has little fox ears and a tail, and you guys are cowards for wanting anything else. In my head, Sherwood Forest is just a kingdom full of animal folk, so everyone has animalistic Aspects, and it's just normal and a thing. I'm right and correct and no one can fight me on this.
He's got WAY more nuance as an HK than in the original movie. Yes, sure, he’s got an INCREDIBLY strong moral code, but it’s a Robin Hood moral code, so he’s very down with stealing from corporations, and has no actual problem with the VKs unless they’re really being assholes. (Ex. He doesn’t care if they’re pickpocketing random royalty, but if he, like, sees them bullying some obviously freaked out freshmen, he’ll step in.)
The scene where Max throws him a coin ‘for friar tuck’ literally should have gone like, Max throws it, he catches it, and just goes ‘hey thanks man!! :)’ fully genuinely
And! This aspect of his character can also be used In A Plot Important Way to emphasize the differences between This Red and the version of her from the time line they’re in now. In a moment where she sides with the VKs on something before he can step in, he could get excited and be like: ‘woah! You never agree with me! What happened!’
He's still friends with Red and Chloe, and he's still singing a little hype up duet with Luis about them, but he also immediately after pivots to: ‘Hey, my One Percenters!! How much of your unbelievable wealth have you donated to good causes today? Do you need recommendations, I have a spreadsheet.’
Runs a bunch of charity and fundraising organizations and clubs across Auradon Prep. (Post canon, he and Pink are 1000% throwing the most audacious charity bake sale of all time)
Uses a bow and arrow more often?? Obviously?? He is a full prodigy, and gets in trouble for bringing a firearm around campus Constantly, but when it gets confiscated, he just makes another one because his dad and his buddies taught him how to.
Just overall he needs to be more of a crunchy, raised in the woods it-takes-a-village style by his parents and all the Merry Men kind of character. Like, Little John is picking him up from his after school clubs. Will Scarlet is going to this kid's parent teacher conferences because he's the only one whose schedule allowed it. This kid is Weird in the kind of way only a kid raised by woke bandits can be.
AND!! This way, when he and Felix get separated from the others, they can have an Actual C Plot as they try to get back (other than Falling In Love obviously, which is also happening) because Robbie grew up in the forest, he’s great at finding his way, and tracking!! Normally!! So, at first he's super confident, but this is WONDERLAND. Everything is topsy turvy from how it’s supposed to be, and it's infuriating him. But!! Felix, who is definitely not outdoorsy normally, has a vast understanding of how magic works. So, they're able to combine their skillsets, and work together to find their way back to their friends. And, also fall in love. Obviously.
Luis Madrigal:
First things first: His vest is purple. Why would it not be purple? His side of the family's colors are literally, obviously, straight up purple and blue, and the other side of his family has yellow. The vest is purple, the candles can stay blue.
I do think he's under and insane amount of pressure, but it's more self inflicted, and situational than with his mom, because the literal Plot of Encanto is that they end the movie WORKING ON THAT??? His family is actively not putting any of this pressure on him (at least intentionally) to do anything.
I think, age wise, he's Dead Middle of his cousins, so he's grown up seeing his older cousins become this cool, amazing people that he admires and wants to emulate, while also feeling an obligation and desire to set his own good example for his baby cousins
He's also the first of the Madrigals to go to Auradon instead of staying local, so he feels like he NEEDS to make a good impression, not only for himself, but for his family and town
Genuinely just a good boy who wants to help people, and make people happy, and be liked by every living thing ever which is normal to want and possible to achieve
And, okay. Okay. This is the most important part. He does not have super strength. WHY would he have super strength?? That's not how the Madrigal family gifts WORK.
Instead (and this is really a first thought, only thought kind of thing, I'm open to suggestions), I think he can make tangible, temporary illusions. (So, like, example: if outside of town, someone's wagon wheel breaks, he can create a temporary one and ride in the wagon focusing on keeping it real while they get it back into town to actually repair it.)
His favorite way to use it, though, and the way he uses it most often, is to do gorgeous light shows, or little puppet shows to entertain kids. He's really artistic, and was even more so as a little kid (Mirabel is definitely his favorite aunt)
But! BUT!!!!! What happened was, when he arrived in Auradon, he was so incredibly nervous, and desperate to be liked, but no one in Auradon really understood how the Madrigal's powers worked. So, everyone was super excited to see the kid with super strength! His mom has super strength, so he must have super strength too, right?
And Luis, sweet, baby, 14 year old, freshman, people pleaser Luis panics and just says Yes, Of Course. My Super Strength. Which I Have. And, at this point, he's in WAY too deep to fix it.
He IS genuinely really strong, but it's not magically strong, he just works out a lot. Especially after lying about having super strength to an entire school. He's Very neurotic about it.
Luckily for him, he's... in high school? So, no one is asking him to Lift Buildings or stop avalanches, so he Can illusion his way out of a lot of it, by making it Look like he's lifting a huge boulder or hiding himself, and temporarily make a fake, stronger Luis as a tangible illusion (that looks better from a distance, and he can only sustain for shortttt periods of time)
Waiting at all times for this lie to crumble down around him. He's kind of split in two, because he adores his family, but he's actively dreading one of his cousins following in his footsteps to Auradon Prep and exposing him. This boy has been dodging family weekends for three years (and crying about it because he misses his mommmm)
This also means he can relate to Red Even Better now??? (as a friend-- tbh, I didn't mind them in the movie, but let Red be holding one of Chloe's two gay gay lesbian hands, while Hazel holds the other) Because he intimately understands what it feels like to have everyone want you to be a version of yourself that cannot exist and was never actually real.
Robbie and him are 100% roommates and best friends, so he Knows about the lie, and has sworn on his LIFE that he will never tell anyone.
Felix figured it out Immediately, the second he saw Luis do an illusory show of strength, but he hasn't mentioned it to him. This is just another piece of information that he's sitting on and waiting to see how it plays out.
Also they all mention their siblings. Hazel has, like, eighty siblings at this point. Felix has two sisters. Chloe Charming's older brother is Chad Charming. I desperately need someone to talk about Chad Charming and Chloe Charming growing up together. PLEASE.
