[ IMG READS: 'Microsoft killed my online life,' Microsoft is reportedly banning Palestinians in the U.S. for life for calling relatives in Gaza.
A BBC investigation reveals that Microsoft is permanently banning Palestinians in the U.S. and other countries who use Skype to call relatives in Gaza. /END OF IMAGE]
On a separate note, I think it's worth posting this article as well titled Microsoft killed my online life after I called Gaza.
some loser: humans are innately selfish creatures
my psych book:
People like to assume "good" traits like empathy are specifically human things. Maybe its a holdover from religious beliefs that say humans are special (eg the old testament giving man dominion over animals) or maybe people just want to feel special. But the more we look the more we find that a lot of human traits like empathy and a sense of fairness are just part of being a social species. When species evolve toward being social those traits are selected for as without them, social groups don't function as well.

Congo is silently going through a silent genocide. Millions of people are being killed so that the western world can benefit from its natural resources.
More than 60% of the world's cobalt reserves are found in Congo, used in the production of smartphones.
Western countries are providing financial military aid to invade regions filled with reserves and in the process millions are getting killed and millions homeless.
Multinational mining companies are enslaving people especially children to mine.

Scientists chained themselves to the White House fence, blocked bridges and occupied buildings. Dozens were arrested.
"... “I’m taking action because I feel desperate,” said U.S. climate scientist Peter Kalmus, who along with several others locked himself to the front door of a JPMorgan Chase building in Los Angeles. A recent report found that the financial giant is the biggest private funder of oil and gas initiatives in the world.
“It’s the 11th hour in terms of Earth breakdown, and I feel terrified for my kids, and terrified for humanity,” Kalmus continued. “World leaders are still expanding the fossil fuel industry as fast as they can, but this is insane. The science clearly indicates that everything we hold dear is at risk, including even civilization itself and the wonderful, beautiful, cosmically precious life on this planet. I actually don’t get how any scientist who understands this could possibly stay on the sidelines at this point.” ..."
Corporate media will not cover the climate crisis.

Then they ask my why as a Puerto Rican I sympathize with the Palestinian struggle. We are both colonized people and they, the colonizers, all think of as less than them.
Our subjugation used as a model. Que asco.

there are indigenous Armenians, their people older than Christ, who have created their own autonomous region in Western Asia, as is their right as Indigenous peoples. this region is called the Republic of Artsakh, frequently referred to as the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) by outsiders.
like ALL marginalized peoples, the residents of Artsakh have been nonstop, historically discriminated against by a number of larger forces, specifically by a nation in Western Asia called azerbaijan, russia, and turkey. the usa and israel have also contributed to the oppression of Artsakh, through weapons exports and trade relations for ex. if you want to get into specifics, i encourage you to look up the Armenian Genocide (1915-17) and the Nagorno-Karabakh Wars (1988-94, 2020).
in particular tho, azerbaijan has been blocking the sole road linking Artsakh to Armenia proper for about 9 months now, blocking the Artsakhi population from food, medicine, electricity, gas, and so on. an entire population of Indigenous people has gone without its basic needs being met, yet again, for NEARLY A YEAR at the hands of a larger, oppressive force. let’s recall that Artsakh is landlocked, so this road truly is the only way resources can get in. it’s been clear since december 2022: azerbaijan is set on starving the population into submission.
while i’ve made posts mentioning Artsakh before, why is there suddenly an influx on my story? as of exactly a week ago (09/19/23), azerbaijan has officially STORMED the region, forcing ~120,000 ethnic Armenians to flea their ancestral lands, erase their history, and/or be killed. azerbaijan will stop at nothing to claim that Artsakh is a part of its territories, that these Indigenous populations are really just azerbaijani, whether they claim such or not. and of course, azerbaijan claims that this is all an “anti-terrorist operation,” trying to frame this occupation as a necessary conflict between two equally opposing forces despite the sheer amount of evidence and well-qualified organizations labeling this a genocide. this is settler colonialism in real time. read and watch critically.
story sound familiar? it should. this is the story of Palestinians in their struggle for self-determination against israel. of the Kingdom of Hawaii against the usa. of Kashmiris against india. this ties into Black liberation, queer and trans liberation, disability justice, caste abolition, and so much more. we are all struggling for self-determination, are we not?
so you understand the situation a little better now. now what? well, for one, you can donate to All for Armenia. and you can stay up to date on the situation via accounts shown below, esp @/mary8black’s Genocide 2023 highlight.”
A screenshot of an Instagram post by tired.armenianjew reads, “On these issues, you should be listening to Armenian voices on the ground under direct occupation, and those in diaspora working to educate people on the historic and ongoing struggles. Be vigilant about who your sources are and what their agenda is.” The screenshot then shows two lists of accounts to follow. “On the ground in Artsakh: @/your.ninelle, @/charchafs, @/Mary8Black, @/tigranbllog, @/AShotGabriel, @/ArmenianFoodBank, @/all_for_armenia, @/HiddenRoadInitiative.” “For education and information: @/YerazadCoalition, @/marinezaslanyan, @/carenerose, @/anna.astarte, @/azadarchives.”

Willem Arondéus (22 August 1894 – 1 July 1943) was a Dutch artist and author who joined the Dutch anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. He participated in the bombing of the Amsterdam public records office to hinder the Nazi German effort to identify Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo. Arondéus was caught and executed soon after his arrest. Yad Vashem recognized Arondéus as Righteous Among the Nations.
Their attack, which took place on 27 March 1943, was partially successful, and they managed to destroy 800,000 identity cards, and retrieve 600 blank cards and 50,000 guilders. The building was blown up and no one was caught on the night of the attack. However, due to an unknown betrayer, Arondéus was arrested on 1 April 1943. Arondéus refused to give up the rest of his team.
Arondéus was openly gay before the war and defiantly asserted his sexuality before his execution. His final words were:
"Tell the people that homosexuals are not by definition weak."

That's the article directly. Please give it a read.
If South Korean actors and writers strike against Netflix, Netflix would be COMPLETELY fucked.
If this spreads to animators it would halt the entire anime industry and severely affect the Korean and Japanese economies.
So let's get this ball rolling and fix some wage theft.

We live in a dystopia....
If the background actors don't come in for work because they exist virtually then the background costume and background hair and make up and their catering and transport and all the other departments that look after them get cut too. These things have knock on effects...
Come on Tumblr, don’t be fucking cowards

Time for manual blazing, tumblr can be a coward but they can't stop us.
The thing about knitting is it’s much harder to fear the existential futility of all your actions while you’re doing it.
Like ok, sure, sometimes it’s hard to believe you’ve made any positive impact on the world. But it’s pretty easy to believe you’ve made a sock. Look at it. There it is. Put it on, now your foot’s warm.
Checkmate, nihilism.
This is a powerful positive message..
I’m literally reading a book right now (Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski) that says this is scientifically sound.
There have been studies done on rats and dogs where they develop learned helplessness in the animals by giving them impossible tasks. Eventually the animals stop trying, even when the task stops being impossible. (I.e. put a rat in a maze with cheese it can’t get to until it develops learned helplessness, then put the cheese somewhere it can get to it and it won’t even try.) But once they show the animals they CAN do something - i.e. physically moving the rat to the cheese - the learned helplessness goes away.
No one can move you to your cheese for you, but the book says DOING something - which they define as “anything that isn’t nothing” can help. Make a food. Work in the garden. Clean a thing. Do a favor for a friend. Call your elected officials.
Knit a sock.
If you feel overwhelmed by existential despair, do something. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be anything that isn’t nothing.
This is really good advice for ADHD people because when executive dysfunction gets bad it’s easy to fall into this pattern of thinking. Do just one thing. It doesn’t have to be your homework, or a chore. It can be something small, it can be something you enjoy. But do just one thing to remind yourself that you can.
This is what “humans want to be productive” really means
We want to make things. We want to do something and at the end of the process see that something has changed. We want physical proof that we did something. We want to be able to point at something and say “I made this”. We want to be creators
This is basically part of what Marx called alienation from our own labour. The end product becomes so detach from our immediate experience we become similar to the rat and lose our sense of being human.
