“All their maids and butlers, but they just have nobody to share any of it with. It’s just so sad. I might actually cry. Quick, hand me a tissue,” he said as he pretended to wipe away a tear. It was easy to piss on the lives of the rich and fortunate. Every one of them had their hands dipped in a plethora of things that only made their own lives shittier. And the less fortunate were supposed to feel sorry for them? People like Teri and him didn’t have the luxury of growing up with a silver spoon in their mouths. Callum could only imagine how the woman standing in front of him would have turned out if things had worked out a different way than they had. He had no time to worry about what if’s though. All that mattered was the here and now and, right now, he was lucky enough to have her in his life. A slow smile crept across his face. “I’m thinking I can handle something really romantic.” His arms wrapped around her waist, his lips pressing to hers for only a moment. “Become like these people who complain about their lives when they’ve got all the money in the world to spend? Nah. I know you won’t be.” His eyes caught hers and then he noticed the lights dim down and a voice echo throughout the room. His eyes stayed on hers for a moment only to drift away when a spotlight went onto one Maya Hendrix. Then his name echoed throughout the room. All of it seemed far too dramatic, but he was not going to say anything when these were the people paying him money to keep a secret. “Who would have thought it was the nice one, eh?”
"You’re hilarious. A real comic genius, y’know that?” Though despite her words, Teri felt the lightness of a chuckle chime across her vocal cords as they danced through the first half of some overdone Ed Sheeran song. Way too cheesy and cliché, but she supposed having Callum there to take the edge off made it more bearable. “Like a redheaded James Dean. What the hell am I gonna do with you?” Because she could never allow herself to fully admit how deeply every word uttered by the man in front of her now seemed to have a cosmic effect on the way in which she experienced the world. Best to play it safe and cool, holding him close and at arm’s distance all the same. “How can you be so---” Words were cut short as the true festivities began, an announcement of Maya Hendrix as the infamous saboteur and Callum’s work in unmasking her being announced throughout the hall. “Did you do this? Seriously?” She whispered to him before a beaming grin overtook otherwise surprised features, fingers reaching up to his chin, returning his attention to Teri once more. “Ruining that family one night at a time. You might just be going home with me tonight, Savea.”
