AQUA
every day, terra walked home from class with aqua, even on the days when her classes ran later than his. it was something they had done in high school and the habit continued when they started going to college. that meant they always came home at the same time. sometimes, aqua had other things to do after class, but usually, they spent the rest of the day together. even if terra felt awkward in these situations, aqua was still grateful for his companionship after all this time. she was grateful for her other friends, too, but no one was as close to her as terra ( even if he held himself back ).
aqua slid the bookmark in her book and closed it when terra spoke, giving him her full attention. he still rarely held eye contact with her, but that was okay. she would wait patiently for him to do things at his own pace.
“ you’re always welcome to read my notes, but i know you don’t need them. ” she said directly, though her words were soft and held no malice. aqua had seen him taking notes. terra was always attentive in class; if she had noticed he wasn’t paying attention, she would have asked him if he wasn’t feeling well. “ you can talk to me about anything, terra. you know that, don’t you? ”
“ah...” when aqua pointed out his lie, his shoulders slumped. he felt bad for repeatedly lying and worse when aqua brought it to lie. though she didn’t seem upset with him or anything. that was good at least. “i’m sorry...” he spoke softly, meeting her eyes for just a second before they darted back to the ground.
“i...i didn’t know what else to say.” he felt his cheeks flush in embarrassment. even if he was close to aqua, he still had trouble talking to her. even after all this time, he still struggled. he wished he wasn’t like this. he wanted to have more confidence in himself and overcome his anxiety that drove him into silence.
“and i’m sorry for interrupting you.” he felt guilty for disturbing her while she had been reading. he was silent for a minute, trying to think of something, anything to say before he spoke up again. “have you been having a good day...?”
