The family car broke… Well, actually i broke the family car while learning how to drive and it needs repair. Happily, it is less than i expected so, i come here to see if i can get at least a small part to pay for it this month.

The total of the car is 2900RS (around 1000$) but my brother has agreed to pay half of it because he was the one teaching me so its also kind of his fault.

been seeing a lot of variations on this take recently - it’s one of the most common pro-immigrant sentiments and also one of the worst - the line that says we should welcome migrant workers because working class Australian/British/US etc citizens are too spoilt or lazy or consider themselves too good to do those jobs.

Like it comes from a (sort of) well meaning place, they’re often trying to say that migrants aren’t criminals or lazy or whatever… but aside from valuing people according to their productive ‘worth’, valourising menial, difficult work as some kind of moral virtue and attacking working class people for not being exploited enough, the most important thing missing from that take is the reasons why working class citizens don’t do these jobs. 

It’s not because working class Australians/Americans/Brits etc are too good for it - it’s that employers deliberately don’t employ people that they might actually have to pay properly - wage theft is fundamental to the business model

But somehow it always gets framed in terms of working class people’s choices - what the migrant is “willing to do” and what the American won’t. Poor migrants can’t choose more attractive work, and the working class citizens can’t “choose” to work for less than minimum wage. It’s the bosses who make the choice, it’s about what they are “willing to do”. This is how they want it.

Being homeless, you notice a lot of really fucked up shit you never noticed before. One thing in particular is how, across NYC you’ll find fast food restaurants, most often the big national chains, that have these little signs everywhere saying things such as “dine-in time is 30 minutes for all guests” and “dining area for guests only” and the most popular “restrooms are for paying guests only”. The funny thing about these signs though is they’re rarely professionally made, they’re obviously from an unofficial source. Usually just a sheet of laminated paper taped to the wall. And this is in massive chain restaurants that would absolutely be able to afford nice, official looking signs if this were actual official company policy.

The real funny part this is these aren’t in every restaurant. The McDonalds in downtown Manhattan don’t have them very often. The stores in wealthy areas in general don’t have them. Where do the stores have these signs most often? In areas with large homeless populations.

In my experience, these rules aren’t often actually enforced by regular employees, luckily. I’ve stayed at places with a “30 minute dining limit” for hours and never faced any issues. But I should note that I don’t really “look homeless” most of the time, so that may be a factor.

Oh, and you may be wondering about, say, Starbucks, who put out a statement that anyone can use their bathrooms or sit in their dining area? Yeah, the Starbucks closest to my shelter closed their bathroom and removed a bunch of seating “for renovations” right around then. It’s been 6 months. No work has been done to the restaurant. I’ve tried emailing corporate about it but nothing has happened so far.

Anyways it’s just really fucking disgusting how homeless people are treated.

So I was robbed at gun point a couple days ago…

I was on my way home from work and I was robbed and he took $450 from me (I know I’m fucking stupid for carrying that on me but I had just cashed my check that day) and this really fucking sucks because I was going to use that money to get medication and treatment for my dog that has been having seizures.

I already have ptsd from being fucking homeless and now this. I’m genuinely scared to go outside. If anyone can send me anything please I would appreciate or at least share this.

My dad is not in my life and I haven’t spoken to my mom in a year, I definitely do not have a financial safety net.

The Hong Kong-based China Labor Bulletin maintains a map of all these strikes, which you can drill down into for news and other detail. As Naked Capitalism notes, it’s instructional to view the map as a time-series by filtering it by year; looking at the rise and rise of strikes from 2011 to 2018 paints a picture of a country in real upheaval.

You can also export the data from the map in a structured format, which should be very useful for a certain kind of scholar or activist.

Hey guys,  I am asking for help getting through this month and I desperately need your help to get groceries and keep my water and electricity on. My son and I haven’t been able to get enough formula we were declined WIC and I’ve been rationing milk and rice so I really could use help getting food for kahlil.

I’ve been struggling a lot these past few months and I have regularly skipped on eating (often for several days in a row) to try and make ends meet due to losing my job at the salon, I have struggled with bill payments and getting groceries/household supplies with absolutely no income, I could use anyone and everyone’s help in boosting/donating to my post so that I won’t lose him to social services. I have to have food in the house and utilities turned on by the end of this week or my parental status will be revoked.
