i hate men who are like "r/femaledatingstrategy will make you realize that femcels are just as bad as incels!!!!!" like i went on the subreddit expecting violent right winger ideology but instead i just see women with standards. women not wanting to be treated like shit in a relationship is the exact same as fucking elliot rodger, i guess.
FDS is literally stuff like "The man should pay for the date" and "Don't have sex on the first date" kinda stuff.... Harmless. Nothing comparable to incel shit.
it wasn’t useful to think of it as “dysphoria” when i had my most recent distress about having breasts. of course that could have been the framework i used to think about it, it “qualified,” and i could fit it easily into that paradigm. but it has been a long time since i believed i was not really female/was desperate not to be female. and for as long as i thought about it as dysphoria, there was a range of things i attached to those feelings as the meaning, possible responses, related issues, ways to understand it. and it became an exercise in something like vivisectioning reality, bargaining. “it’s not that i don’t want to be female, i just want my old body back, which was also female but which did not have these breasts.”
it felt different when instead of dysphoria i thought about it as being upset by having fat. that made the situation plainer. the stakes became obvious. different possibilities opened up for me at that point. i found my rage, and that meant i knew i was worth being angry about, and that meant i found my boundaries, because i realized they had been crossed in a deep way that got into my head without my permission. and from there, i could resist.
As an update, my breasts are larger than they were when I wrote that last post and I no longer have any distress about that. I’m comfortable. I’m shaped like many other middle aged dykes I love and respect. Friend-shaped.
I often think about that idea from A Passion for Friends, that the Self is the original friend. It has a different feeling to it now since I have had this experience of catching an accidental glimpse of myself in a mirror, not recognizing myself at first, and having my gut reaction be something like “Who’s that friend?” and then realizing–yes, a friend. Myself. My body.
When I interact in the patriarchal world, I don’t like the way others interact with me–but am aware that the problem is not located in me. If someone acts disgusting about my breasts, I am angry and disgusted with that person; I do not ascribe my sense of disgust to my own body. I don’t understand myself as “parts” so there’s no longer the ability to scapegoat any “part” of me.
I am a weird, whole, complex being, a landscape, a creature–not a cafeteria selection of parts which are disposable or can be improved upon.
The ways I change now come from within and come from a desire to be satisfied. One thing I am includes muscles that want to do what they are capable of doing, so I move in ways that please me and I change, grow stronger. It is pleasing and satisfying to move, to exert, to feel that good kind of tired and sore. I don’t see this as a self-improvement project, but a way to feed myself. Growth and experience are satisfying. It’s not about a body project, imposing a particular shape or ideal. It’s about having what I need.
There is nothing about my embodiment that can be “improved” upon, certainly not through any traumatic medical intervention, but not even through some imposed aesthetic ideal or idea of what I “should” do or be like.
I think the reason I’ve started to recognize myself as a friend is that I let myself Be.
Medical experts say the primary method of treating endometriosis may actually be worsening people's pain.
(: (: (:
According to The Guardian, there is a growing medical consensus supporting the idea that there are three different types of endometriosis, which up until recently had all been treated the same. Though all forms of endometriosis involve tissue similar to that found inside uterine walls growing in other parts of the body, this “errant tissue,” as doctors call it, is not always the primary cause of the pain they experience.
For those with the type of endometriosis that causes painful ovarian cysts, surgery is often the best option. However, new research has found that 80 percent of those who suffer from the disease actually have the superficial form—known as peritoneal endometriosis—and their pain is caused by the ways that nerve endings interact with the tissue, rather than the tissue itself.
Because surgery involves doctors slicing through nerve endings in order to cut out that tissue, it’s likely to cause patients more pain in the long run. Often, doctors attempt these surgeries multiple times.
Scientists have known about the different categories of endometriosis for a decade, but they have only received funding for further research in the past five years. And it is only recently that endometriosis has been taken more seriously: Historically, many doctors have not believed patients who report their pain, despite nearly 40 percent of people with endometriosis reporting pain so severe it has resulted in an emergency room visit, according to a 2020 U.K. study...
“it typically takes women 10 to 12 years to even get a diagnosis because they’re “more likely to have their pain reports discounted as ‘emotional’ or psychogenic’ and, therefore, ‘not real.’” Thank you.
“And paradoxically, people of other genders often have their pain ignored precisely because they’re not women.” That is bullshit. Men do not have this issue, stop derailing conversations about women’s oppression.
It’s so fucked up that women are so universally dismissed and hated in society that nearly every single woman goes through a phase (if not a lifetime) of thinking she isn’t like other women purely because she has rational thoughts, hobbies, feelings, and needs.
the bait and switch way this is written literally made me laugh out loud
biden: my new plan guarantees four additional years of free education
kids in high school: holy shit free college?!
biden: oh no two years of pre-school and then two years of college*
*only at select locations, restrictions apply
Okay but pre-school is expensive as hell. Making it free will directly improve the lives of so many families.
so is community college it will literally cut the cost of college in half or make it free for the people that choose one of the many careers you can get with a two year degree are y'all stupid or just dumb
do ppl actually not realise how important affordable childcare is to working women???
Hi, I'm a mum! Pre-pandemic, I was working over forty hours a week, and the entirety of my paycheck went to covering my kid's daycare cost. Daycare and pre school are expensive, so much so that a lot of people quite literally can't afford it, even when working full time.
Having two years of pre-k education covered is absolutely beyond helpful. Parents genuinely want to provide the very best for the kids and having early education covered can go a long way in allowing parents to do just that.
Look, I don’t have kids and I am still buried under student loans from college. I absolutely believe free college is necessary.
However.
There is decades worth of evidence that pre-K education is one of the strongest ways of giving kids enduring advantages in K-12 education. A lot of the data comes specifically out of Oklahoma, which does have voluntary universal pre-K (which makes it an excellent case study) and the research shows gains across all racial and socio-economic boundaries. That paper is from 2005. Researchers revisited the kids later to see how persistent these gains were, or if they were drowned out by all the other stuff.
Turns out, the kids who were in pre-K continued to have academic success through middle school (they hadn’t tracked through high school). And just for fun, they also did some projected adult earnings for kids who went through pre-K, as fun benefit-cost analysis of the whole thing. And it looks like the benefits skew disproportionately in favor of the more disadvantaged students.
Community college is great and should be accessible to everybody. But universal pre-K will catch more kids early on to ensure they have a better shot at finishing high school. The evidence screams that it is one of the single most-effective measures in leveling the playing field for all kids, and reducing the generations of privilege baked into the system.
I’d like to reverse judgement until I see the proposed law text in something other than tweet form. University costs have been skyrocketing unchecked for decades now, as administrative and athletics costs eat up more and more of student tuition. It would be ideal if this law also capped tuition and student fee rates and/or prevented four year schools from offering different rates for the first two years and last two years (forcing students to pay twice as much per year to “make up” for the lost income). If universities want to compete with free community college education, they shouldn’t be allowed to bait and switch either.
this is so sad…. like what man has this issue lol
not to mention there's a growing population of women coming forward about how this action has led to severe consequences for their pelvic floor muscles
Wait, what??? What does sucking in your stomach do to your pelvic floor muscles?
basically from what i've seen, keeping your stomach muscles constantly tensed leads 2 too much relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles, leading to very early incontinence, etc
Fuck I don’t even think about it now but I’ve been keeping my stomach clenched since at least middle school.

Good news: if you’re currently laying around and not producing anything, you are a credit to your species.
I’m an ant biologist and I’d like to point out that ants also spend a significant percentage of the time doing nothing.
Turns out sometimes the most evolutionary useful thing you can do is chill and not wear yourself to shreds, whether mammal or insect. It helps you deal with emergencies and adapt to change. Plus, you can act as living food storage!
That last part is probably more an ant thing than a human thing, but hey, live your dreams.
it’s also a bear thing, which absolutely explains me
Doing absolutely fuck-all is how antarctic sea sponges live to be over 10,000 years old, so live your best, longest, laziest life.
Remember lions? Fellow apex predators?
Yeah, they spend 16-20 hours of the day laying around, socializing, raising Cubs and napping.
The last 4-8 hours are spent hunting.
Wait wait, they’re not a primate so they don’t count.
How about Orangutans?
Well, they spend 90% of their time awake just hanging out in food-rich areas, eating fruit and leaves, socializing, raising children, and chilling.
Well, they’re not people so it doesn’t-
How about Stone Age people in Europe?
They probably worked 3-5 hours per day, every day. (Though seasonal changes in food scarcity could change that)
Laborers in ancient Egypt worked 8 hours, with an hour break at lunch. They did this for 8 days, then rested 2 days. That sounds familiar. Except… they also had regular time off for festivals and holidays, and only worked for about 18 out of every 50 days.
Artisans in imperial Rome generally worked from 6am to Noon, and then had the rest of the day off… and only worked for half the year, due to all the holidays and festivals they got off.
But that’s too easy, what about a Peasant in medieval England?
6-8 hours per day, with Sundays off, Farm workers put in longer hours at harvest time but worked shorter days in winter when there are fewer hours of daylight. Economist Juliet Schor estimates that in the period following the Plague they worked no more than 150 days a year, due to the long holidays and many festivals.
Ugh, let’s go poorer. 17th century France. Starvation was afoot for the working poor!
During the reign of King Louis XIV, the workers of France had it tough, and hunger for the poorest was a fact of life. The typical working day was as much as 12 hours long, but two hours were set aside midday for lunch and perhaps an afternoon nap. Nevertheless, the Ancient Régime is said to have also guaranteed peasants, labourers and other workers a total of 52 Sundays, 90 rest days and 38 religious holidays off per year, meaning they worked just 185 out of 365 days.
So what changed?
The industrial revolution, baybe~~
New factory owners could work their employees to the bone due to a lack of regulation and abundance of cheap labour.
The typical factory worker in mid 19th-century England toiled away for a soul-destroying 16 hours a day, six days a week, 311 days per year!
THAT nightmare became the standard by which western society began to judge “work-life balance” and anything gentler than the industrial factory’s unfettered brutality is considered “softness”
(So many people died being mangled in those machines. Hair handkerchiefs went into style during American industrialization because working women would otherwise get their hair caught in the machines, and be either scalped or be bodily pulled inside to die…. But that’s a horror for another time)
Americans in 2020 worked an average of 8.5 hours per day on weekdays, plus another 5 hours on weekends.
Taking out federal holidays and weekends, we work 262 days per year. Most of us get 5-9 sick days to take per year. (Yes, a fixed number, no matter how sick you really are), and usually either no paid vacation, or 7-15 days paid vacation, depending on seniority and the company. Unpaid vacation doesn’t have a max, but taking it often risks you getting fired.
Even comparing against the poorest laborers in ancient history the current working structure for humans is, frankly, inhumane.
We are mammals. Let us rest. Let us celebrate holidays and attend festivals. Let us attend to our homes and families.
Even the ultra wealthy folks who got their heads chopped off gave us more time off than this!!!
Someone in the comments said something like “humans are instinctively industrious and productive, as social creatures!”
Buddy, that’s a lie fed to you by capitalism.
In our default state, we attend to our families yes, but we also party like hell, lounge around, and make fantastic works of art just to be proud of ourselves. We made beautiful things for the joy of creating them.
Stone Age humans may have spent a couple hours hunting and gathering, but DEFINITELY spent loads of time painting every available surface. Time and weather washed most of it away, but some places like Arizona and Colorado still preserve a few of the endless murals made by ancient hands.
Evidence shows that the ancient world was COVERED in paintings and etchings - just saturated with images of birds and beasts and humans, sunsets and cool weather. We invented mythologies and painted about them. We did something impressive, and painted about it. We taught our children how to paint and lifted them into our shoulders so they could mark the ceiling.
In our most base state, humans will work enough to survive, but our instincts demand we use all other time to create art. We want to communicate. To make connections.
“Working” or “being productive” is not on that list.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
it's a trap. if someone in the states on unemployment puts in an application and doesn't come to the interview, or if they come to the interview but refuse the job offer, that gets reported to unemployment and that person can lose their unemployment benefits. then, with no income, they are suddenly desperate for wendy's job offer. it's sick.
They’re also filtering for people poor and desperate enough that a free breakfast sandwich is a big deal. Ie, people desperate enough to easily exploit.
Protip: if you're not on unemployment, this is a great way to waste the time and resources of these companies.
Sure, I'll turn in a job app for a sammich. I won't leave my job for it, but they don't gotta know that, do they?
Applebee’s is doing this too. Be careful out there and don’t fall for this shit.
Funny how feminism is all about choice until women choose to exclude males.
@radfemblack you’re so right and you should say it
This honestly arose because of the gender movement. They have muddied the waters, altering the definition of man and women, so they don't have a coherent and clear definition that is tangible. If we still defined women as someone of the female sex, I feel like this would be less of an issue and less likely to occur. Also, men can get into the women's Olympics catagory easier than actual women now apparently. "Laurel" (Gavin) Hubbard definitely has more testosterone than these women did.
