Oscar Party Weekend - 2019 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.
Me and my little brother Tom first watched the entire Oscar broadcast back in 1973 (I was 11 and he was 9). We had just seen âThe Poseidon Adventureâ and were excited to see one of the actresses nominated, and several special effects awards and somehow managed to win âBest Songâ that year for âThereâs Got to Be a Morning Afterâ. Every year afterwards, we would watch the awards together, and even when we moved away from home, we would still call long distance to compare notes during or after the show.
I had skipped both the oscar parties and drawing posters for them for two years since the last one I did. I was either too busy, or just unenthused about the nominees (or both). I do plan on eventually getting back and filling the holes for the past two years (not to mention a long term ridiculous goal of filling in the blanks for the years 1976-2003, and who knows, maybe even 1929-1972 should I live long enough). This is the poster for 2019 (honoring films from 2018), including BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, Roma, Vice, The Favourite, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born and The Green Book.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2016 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

After several years of missing the oscar party at my brotherâs restaurant, we returned again, this time with a double sized poster in tow. I had wanted a strong horizontal because I wanted to include the âWar Rigâ from Mad Mad Fury Road (a movie I was crazy enthused about that particular year). This was probably my favorite out of all the posters that Iâve done, mostly because it had more of a theme than the previous ones (everyone dressed up in âMad Maxâ garb regardless of the film). This is the poster for 2016 (honoring films from 2015), including Mad Max Fury Road, Creed, The Hateful Eight, Carol, The Martian, The Revenant, Spotlight and The Big Short.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2015 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

I believe I stayed home again from my brotherâs party in Chicago, but drew this poster regardless. Tried a new âarrangementâ technique, putting the nominations in rows (from the top, actors, then actresses then supporting actors then supporting actresses, and then films with no actor nominees but still getting best picture nod, went in the center). I didnât care for this much, and probably won't go back to it again. This is the poster for 2015 (honoring films from 2014), including The Grand Budapest Hotel, Selma, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, Birdman, American Sniper, Wild, Boyhood and Gone Girl.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2014 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

I may have stayed home from this party, and did a poster regardless. This is the poster for 2014 (honoring films from 2013), including The Wolf of Wall Street, Blue Jasmine, Captain Phillips, American Hustle, Nebraska, Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and The Dallas Buyers Club.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2013 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

I think I stayed home from the party this year, but did a poster regardless. This is the poster for 2013 (honoring films from 2012), including Lincoln, Flight, Les Miserables, The Impossible, Silver Linings Playbook, Amor, Life of Pi, The Master, and Django Unchained.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2012 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

Once again I returned to my brotherâs party at his restaurant in Chicago. This year I broke with years of tradition and decided to do the poster in color, in a painterly style (mostly due to the movie âThe Artistâ this year being notably in black and white, and mostly silent). This is the poster for 2012 (honoring films from 2011), including Moneyball, The Help, The Artist, War Horse, Marilyn and Me and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2011 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

I donât remember if I attended the party this year or not. I did however, still complete a poster for this year. This is the poster for 2011 (honoring films from 2010), including True Grit, The Kingâs Speech, The Social Network, The Kids are Alright, The Fighter, Black Swan, Inception and Winterâs Bone.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2010 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

I attended this yearâs oscar party, mostly so I could deliver this special 3-D poster (including several pairs of â3-D Glassesâ for viewing). This is the poster for 2010 (honoring films from 2009), including Inglorious Basterds, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, An Education, The Blind Side, Up In The Air, Crazy Heart, District 9 and Precious.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2009 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearâs nominees.

Another year that I missed my brothersâ party, but did a poster for him, just the same. This is the poster for 2009 (honoring films from 2008), including Frost/Nixon, Proof, The Wrestler, Milk, The Changeling, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Rachel Getting Married, Batman: The Dark Knight and The Reader.

At this point, I had done three posters for this series, and a conflict kept me home for the next few years from my brotherâs parties. However, I continued to dutifully complete the posters. This is the poster for 2008 (honoring films from 2007), including There Will Be Blood, Juno, Michael Clayton, Sweeny Todd, No Country for Old Men, Atonement, Elizabeth and La Vie En Rose.

I believe this was the first year my brother started holding the party at his restaurant. This was the third poster I did for him. This is the poster for 2007 (honoring films from 2006), including Little Children, The Pursuit of Happyness, Volver, Blood Diamond, Showgirls, Amin, The Queen and The Devil Wears Prada.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2006 Oscars Poster

In 2006, the party was still being held in my brotherâs home. This was the 2nd poster that I did for him. This is the poster for 2006 (honoring films from 2005), including Crash, Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Transamerica, Syriana, Cinderella Man, Hustle and Flow and Walk the Line.
Oscar Party Weekend - 2005 Oscars Poster

This was the first year I did one of these posters, for a party at his home in Chicago. This is the poster for 2005 (honoring films from 2004), including Sideways, The Aviator, Closer, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Hotel Rwanda, Ray, Million Dollar Baby and Finding Neverland.
