Or what about Odysseus' main character flaw being his tendency for hubris? Hubris in the original ancient Greek sense (ύβρις); overconfidence and bragging in the face of gods, calling yourself greater than gods even as a mortal, and offending them. Like perhaps claiming you have "8000 Men" under your belt while facing opponents much greater than you, or earning the title of "God" when you're not one. Or more cheekily, calling yourself the "Captain" of your crew in the face of Sun God Nika.

nothing on this god's green earth can convince me that peter parker doesn't have an ao3 account where he is elbows deep in a 'rise of skywalker' fix-it fic. like, fully invested in it, been writing it pre-spider bite with ned, who is just as enthusiastic about it. but the thing is, it's really hard to do updates when you are literally spider-man.

every three months he'll post and in the author's note there's some shit like "sorry this took a while, i got shot seven times :/" or "i know it's been a minute, i literally got hit by a bus and then stabbed in the leg, but i'm all good!" or sometimes ned would log in and post with a note "hey i'm a friend posting on the author's behalf, they're healing from severe hypothermia but promised an update, so here it is!"

and the fic just gets increasingly more popular for the author notes alone. a good handful of the comments are something along the lines of "i'm not even in the star wars fandom, i'm just here to see if the author is good" or "every update i cheer for another day the author gets to live at this point"

and any reader who is a native new yorker kind of pieces together that holy shit the author might be spider-man because the timeline adds up, and they just fully embrace it. spider-man will stop a robbery and the guy behind the counter will ask when the next chapter will be up. spider-man returns a stolen backpack to a girl and she'll tell him that he "really got poe's voice down so well, it's really impressive."

ned thinks it is hilarious. mj finds out about the fic from twitter, to peter's absolute horror, and changes peter's contact name to "friendly neighborhood ao3 author". but the worst thing to happen is after an avengers battle where peter took a pretty big hit and ends up in med-bay. and during a press conference, when someone asks how spider-man is healing, tony just drops "spidey won't be down for too long. the star wars fic will be updated within the week, probably."

ao3 goes down for two days.

AND HOW IT GETS “RIPPED OUT” EVENTUALLY???1?1???1 i just wanna talk abt it bc like it had a bunch of things firefly wanted to do (its implied she wanted to do them before she dies: her bucket list) and at the end of the song she rips it out because she wants to do everything she wants to do to live, not do everything bc she’ll die.

also i wanna talk abt this frame, its the one that shows up in the parts where firefly is “ripping out” (ill get back to it) the pages of the bucket list journal. it shows during the lyrics,

“Let me stay awhile, stop the world from moving on / And I’ll cherish all the memories ‘til they’re going, going, gone”

and at first, i thought the top part was skirt folds from firefly’s outfit but after i rewatched it a few times, i realized they’re actually firefly’s bangs, and we’re basically looking through her eyes as she rips apart the journal and i just think thats such a powerful few seconds because it dips in focus a lot and shows just how emotional she is, how much hurt she feels about the hand she was dealt.

ok i described it as “ripping out” earlier but the way her hands are placed looks like shes just crumpling the paper, and doesnt actually plan on ripping them out, and i feel like theres so much nuance in that bc it shows that even though she holds the memories she made in bittersweet regard, she wouldn’t just reduce them to shreds in a fit of indignation. that conclusion is even further supported by the fact that we never see the notebook being ripped; this is the last time we ever see it (but lets not think about the implications that brings).

ok i also wanted to talk about these because the entire time, the mv is presented in an alternate universe where the characters go to school and arent, yk, traveling the cosmos. but we can still see how the trailblazer is wearing their iconic jacket and fingerless gloves, so it tells us that we’re back in the star rail universe we know and love. we also know that we’re in penacony when TB fights SAM for the first time bc of the fire around them and the scenery behind the TB. thats not the main point tho.

notice how there are green marks on the left photo; it looks like we’re looking at the trailblazer from SAM’s point of view, and the text saying “DESTROY” repeatedly means that SAM is going haywire. so perhaps, the mv’s story is meant to parallel the main story?

i just like thinking about firefly, who above all wants to be a normal girl and make friends and go to school and follow trends, despite being a machine whose only purpose is to fight and die.

i just like thinking about firefly, who is fascinated by machines and weapons because even though shes had her fair share of bad experiences with weapons, they had protected her against the swarm all those years ago and continue to protect her today.

i just like thinking about firefly, who had to deal with the crisis that comes with being a tool, a pawn for others to use, her entire life. who witnessed others just like her in appearance and situation crushed and left behind without a single person to mourn them but her and think, what did they even die for? who woke up in a field of dead bodies and not believing she was alive: how loney she must have felt.

i just like thinking about firefly, who has a tendency to get jealous of people, like how she says that she envies acheron for being able to dream when the only way she can is in penacony, or when she expresses how amazing she feels running and jumping and feeling what she wants without needing to worry about her health.

i just like thinking about firefly, who even though she wants to fight for life, is still bitter about the fact that no matter how much she wants it, she can never be a normal girl. not with her medical issues, not with SAM, not with her status as a stellaron hunter or an ex-glamoth cavalry member. how no matter how much she tries, she’s still as human as anyone else.

i just like thinking about firefly, who despite everything, decides to keep fighting for the chance to choose for herself. to defy her fate and live as firefly; not as a tool, but as a human.
