Ms. Frizzle was a teacher and, while arguably omniscient, in a very different specialization than “mushroom scientist.” I don’t recall if there were any mycologists in the cartoon but if they didn’t look as eccentric as physically possible I would be inclined to distrust them.

There is a very different professional standard for certain fields. Mycology in particular demands that you adhere to an aesthetic of goblinous frivolity that is difficult to accomplish.

I’m an ant biologist and I’d like to point out that ants also spend a significant percentage of the time doing nothing.

Turns out sometimes the most evolutionary useful thing you can do is chill and not wear yourself to shreds, whether mammal or insect. It helps you deal with emergencies and adapt to change. Plus, you can act as living food storage!

That last part is probably more an ant thing than a human thing, but hey, live your dreams.
