You know what one thing I will say is Iâm very happy that I grew up looking up to players on my team like Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara championing a positive locker room mentality as well as accepting everyone and ACTUALLY meaning it, not just slapping pride tape on their stick and being all âhey Iâm supportive of the LGBTQ+ community look at me yay.â Growing up it made me hopeful that everyone in the league was like that and that the younger generations of players would continue to be as such, but unfortunately thatâs just not true.
Bergy and Zee really were and are 2 in a billion. I know the whole âmy fave would neverâ statement is clowned on but I am confident in saying that those 2 wouldâve never been cozying up to pedophile protectors and laughing at womenâs hockey players, because over the last 2 decades plus they have proven time in and time out what their morals are. They walk the walk and talk the talk.
After 2019, I fell out of love with hockey because of the SCF loss and starting to realize how not just conservative, but MAGA the league was. Got back into following very closely in 2022 when we were breaking records, and then got heartbroken again and realized again, the sport is very MAGA. And once Bergy retired, it was obviously never the same because he was a Bruin his entire career but I felt so disconnected from the game and had almost zero interest.
Now after all of this U.S menâs hockey shit, I think this was the nail in the coffin for me. Personally, I donât see how I can in good conscience continue to support teams that are filled with players who probably donât even care that their oh-so-dear president is a pedophile, child fucker, sexual predator, rapist, sexist, and a pathetic, evil, shit-stain of a human being who has already ruined our reputation around the world. We are a laughing stock, deservedly-so. We donât deserve the respect of fucking anyone.
However, to end on a more positive note I am very proud of the amount of backlash I have seen from everyone, not just women.
Do NOT take your foot off of the accelerator.
Make USA hockey as uncomfortable as possible.
Hell, if you guys are going to games boo the guys who laughed at the women and went to the SOTU every fucking time they touch the puck.
For now though, I am done with hockey. Possibly permanently unless thereâs serious culture change, but that is highly unlikely in my lifetime.
