If Katsuki was a hero, he would have made helping Deku his first priority. He would have taken him to the bathroom, maybe the principal’s office to report it. He would have asked him if he was okay, if he needed to see the nurse. Instead, Katsuki rose up from his seat slowly, and tried to keep the red monster in his stomach at bay.

The hero coughed and blood splattered out. In a fit of smoke, he reverted back to his skeleton figure. Deku screamed. “A-ah, don’t worry my boy,” All Might sputtered out. “This is normal for me!”

Katsuki eyed his thin frame up and down. “You’re dying,” he concluded. He couldn’t believe it had taken him so long to figure out.

A villain strong enough to seriously injure All Might. It was a terrifying thought. Katsuki couldn’t even imagine a world where the hero wasn’t at the number one spot. He had heard stories about how bad things had been before Japan had their symbol of peace, but it was always so distant. It felt unimaginable.

And Deku still knew something he didn’t. It irked him to no end. The most logical thing was that All Might had been curious to know if Deku’s quirk would be able to make him stronger, but deep down Katsuki knew there was more to it than that. Deku’s quirk wouldn’t heal the hero, and he was plenty strong enough in his muscle form. So what had he been after?

“Is it really so terrible, Kacchan?” Deku began behind him. Katsuki turned around. He still hadn’t gotten off the ground. “Is it really so terrible to let yourself be loved by me? I know…” Deku couldn’t stop the tears from falling, or his voice from getting thick. His red face got even redder, but Katsuki couldn’t tear his eyes away despite the growing embarrassment in his stomach. All of the heroes were staring at Deku and him. Watching the train wreck happen live. “I know I’m not the strongest on my own, not like you are. I don’t have your strength. I don’t have your quirk, b-but I c-can still be useful! I c-can s-still support you and make you even stronger, i-if you’d just let me s-stand by your side.”

Katsuki breathed in deeply. He could still feel the extra power that Deku had given him, through his love of all things, thrum atop his skin waiting to ignite. He couldn’t afford to start screaming again and accidentally explode a hero. Not now. Not in front of all of these eyes, waiting for a story. “You know what happened the last time you used your quirk on me.” Every time he looked in the mirror he had to remember that day. “Go home, Deku.”

“Yeager!” a deep voice interrupted, and a large blond came up behind Eren and swung an arm over his shoulder. A taller, nervous looking boy followed him closely. “You breaking the rules already? Who’re these lovely ladies you’ve managed to drag in here?”

It took a second for what he said to truly register. Ladies. Plural. Armin felt his heartbeat resound throughout him once, twice, and then blood rushed to his ears. Ladies. He knew he didn’t look like a man, he was too young and too scrawny to pass as an adult, but he was still boyish. His chest was flat and he had no curves. And maybe his hair was long, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a boy. He looked blindly at Eren and saw the exact moment that he understood what the blond had meant.
