Wrong Number Gone Right
this is the purest video you will see all day, it includes not only practical advice on how to make cats feel comfortable but also:
the most patient and long suffering clawdia
bob ross, but a vet
squish the cat
squish the cat, but with a towel
absolute unit mr. pirate
a little chubby but quite beautiful
please watch this immediately
Squish! That! Cat!
I considered myself to be well versed on cats/communicating with cats. I’ve lived with at least two cats my whole life, and currently live with two very different cats who I love. Apparently most cats are shoulder cats? My cat Mason has always been very nervous about going up on people’s shoulders, so I thought I’d try the “shoulder cat” technique.
I had to help him up on my shoulders because he’s never done it himself before. But once I got him up there I squished him, he started purring like nobody’s business. I carried him around our entire apartment, up and down staircases, and he was so happy. He didn’t try to leave once! When I put him down he head butted me and meowed and was super affectionate. And of course I gave him a treat.
TLDR- Even if you live with cats and think you understand cats, please watch this video.
This is honest to god one of the best videos I’ve ever seen

i hate it when people ask “what’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done?” like. awfully bold of you to assume i’ve reached peak dumbass.
I’m not bringing your food in the bed. This is not mothers day and you are not a mother.
This was all from the same scene.
me, seeing half a street sign that ends in “ockmorton yard”: if that says what i think it says i’m going to lose my mind on this bus
the sign, revealed as the bus began driving again:

i.e. why when you or someone else gets stabbed or impaled, you should leave the object in the wound until medical help arrives.
THIS. RIGHT HERE. This is an amazing example!!
If you take the thing out, they’re going to bleed a lot more.
SO. DONT.
News Flash from the Medical Help ™ — we don’t touch it either! Unless the object they’re impaled with is literally too big to fit in the ambulance, We. Don’t. Touch. The. Thing.
The only people qualified to Take-The-Thing-Out are surgeons. End of story.
Okay, but for the love of God, please, PLEASE, if you did, if you panicked and took the thing out…. DON’T…. PUT IT BACK IN.
Or else, congratulations, you just stabbed them AGAIN. I reeeeeally shouldn’t have to say this guys, but I do.
gifted student™ brains are about as functional as horses when you get right down to it
which sounds like a shit post but consider: horses? hypothetically MADE for running. look at this magnificent muscle beasts. look at those legs. they must be so good at running, right? wrong. horses are fragile as fuck. horses break their gotdamn legs so so easily, and if they break their legs you just have to fucking shoot them. if they run, the thing they are MADE FOR, too fast their lungs will start bleeding. I just googled horses to see if I was missing anything and apparently if they lie down for a day their organs start collapsing or something so they can’t rest from their One Horse Purpose even when they’re hurt. they’re made to do one thing but they can only do it under Very Specific Conditions and if a single thing changes they just die.
which, you know. gifted students™ get applauded for being naturally smart when we’re five or whatever and then develop a terrible inflated sense of self that makes us highly averse to anything we’re not naturally good at, because it challenges our fragile childbrain egos and if we wait too long we’ll develop mental fences around entire subjects and skillsets (mine are math and studying) because we think we’re Bad at them, when in reality we just need to practice but are frustrated by that because it’s harder than being ~naturally talented~ was. we get applauded for doing One Thing but the second we run into slightly different things that our brains don’t comprehend as readily? it’s a Bad Time. I still have so much anxiety over things I don’t feel Naturally Talented at that I’ve been sitting here writing this post for like 10 minutes rather than read the feedback on my religion paper. I got a 100% on it, but I’m still That Scared of anything other than straight heaps of praise because that’s what my childbrain was acclimated to. just send me to the glue factory already.
Holy shit, seriously though. As a kid I was always smart - like, top of the class, consistently. That’s not me trying to brag, honest. I was literally top in everything but like… PE, but that’s because I kept “forgetting” my running shoes so I didn’t have to do football or whatever. I was smart!!! I got praised by the teachers!! Life was good.
Except I’m coasting, and not being challenged.
And then, 14 rolls around. We’re doing algebra (trigonemetry maybe?) in maths. … I havn’t read this, this wasn’t in my encyclopedia as a kid. I made a few tries to ask for help, and got “you’re smart, you’ll figure it out.” I’m smart, I’ll figure it out.
Yeah… problem is, I didn’t figure it out. That is the day I lost a lot of self esteem. All of a sudden, I WASN’T top of the class anymore. Teachers started with the “you’re better than this” spiel when I started slipping in my grades. Since I’d not been challenged so far in my school career, I’d forgot how to… well, learn. But I was smart, I’d figure it out.
Then I slipped into mediocrity - stopped getting invited to the award ceremonies for Gifted and Talented students. By Year 11 (the end of high school in the UK, at 16) the only thing I excelled at was the sciences, and that was only because I was given free reign of the science labs for a couple of years to do my own experiments outside what they were teaching us. And even that didn’t last long when I got to college, I failed out of Physics (my best subject!) with a U (short for ungradeable) within two and a half months. I couldn’t absorb the new info or do the maths.
Now I’m 23 and still learning how to learn. I’m basically flunking my degree at the lowest possible pass grade. All because I wasn’t pushed as a kid. If I’d not been allowed to coast? If I hadn’t had it ingrained in me that I was smart and stuff just “comes to [me] naturally”? I’d probably have done a lot better.
But because we need a little inspiration here, now? I’m putting effort in. I’m ignoring the “fuck, I can’t do this” feelings in the back of my head, and forcing myself to read the next few pages, or watch the next few videos. I can do basic calculus now! I couldn’t do that a year or two ago. It’s just a massive fucking hump to get over. Our brains work, we’ve just lost the instruction manual.
Teachers, if any of you are reading this, please. Talk to that smart kid that finishes well before everyone else. Stimulate their minds, ask what they’re interested in and get them to read books on the subject so they’re still learning SOMETHING they’re not familiar with. Can’t do it in class? Set it as homework for them. Make sure they don’t forget how to learn new information.
Don’t let them burn out because they feel like they should but can’t.
