speak now is like. the era for me. i think it’s because it’s an album that is so deeply crystallized around the experience of being a single age - red does this sort of but it also branches out and grows up on its own. speak now is incredibly wildly eternally twenty. it’s a grown woman and a little girl. it’s wide-eyed wonder and the first cracks on a fresh heart. it’s standing on the threshold of the house you grew up in and stepping out into the world knowing it will hurt and being hopeful anyway. it’s crying on your floor in a glittering prom dress and not really understanding yet how many times this pain will repeat itself over the course of your life. this night is sparkling. something’s made your eyes go cold. long live the magic we made. why’d you have to be so mean? i had the time of my life with you. 💜✨
