This “little” dude was the size of my middle finger and attacked everything that came close to him.
One of the memorials in Mauthausen/Austria; it says:
“Vergiss uns nicht, die wir hier getötet wurden, denn das Vergessen des Bösen, ist die Erlaubnis zu seiner Wiederholung.”
Which basically means:
“Don’t forget us, those who got killed here, because forgetting the evil is the permission for it to repeat itself.”
All the things that happen during the last years made me remember that line I first read when I was 13 years old and never forget completely. Hate is roaming a lot lately, all over the world. Many people are bored as hell of history class but it’s important, just think about a couple things that happened in the past.
Now, that Austrian election for the next Bundespräsident (”federal president”), is coming up (first voting is today) I got thinking a lot about politics and it’s really tiring to listen to everything they say. (Especially with the whole Trump thing going on in the USA) I know it is really annoying sometimes but PLEASE, no matter which country and what you are voting for:
- Don’t vote anyone “for fun”, that’s not helping anyone and it’s really dangerous, if everyone thinks like that.
- Don’t vote invalid, it may be a statement but in the end, it won’t make a change, and probably NO politician will change its habits because of it.
- GO voting, even if it’s hard to decide or you think it won’t make a change, because it DOES, every single vote is important and necessary to actually make a change.
- THINK of whom/what you’re voting for. It might take some time (it’s 2am; spent at least 3 hours watching discussions, reading and discussing with my mum) but it’s YOUR life, and those of everyone you love and want to be safe and happy.
- Don’t let yourself get influenced by the opinions of the people around you, it’s YOUR life, YOUR choice and it’s no ones business for who/what you decided for.
- No matter how scarred you are of a situation (like, atm, so many refugees and war), don’t forget human rights are a thing and how you would feel in such a situation.
- Maybe it helps when you go through your options with a “what if...” scenario. Imagine what would change/happen if the opinions come true, one by one.
- Don’t hate anyone. It won’t change a thing, just be nice. (“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”-Gandhi)
- Your opinion IS important, it matters, it will make a difference. You have a voice, USE IT!!!
- Last but not least: GET YOUR ASS UP AND USE YOUR FUCKING RIGTH TO VOTE!!! It’s just a couple minutes and it won’t hurt, I promise!!!
(I’m not a native speaker, so please don’t hate for any mistakes. Pls respect my opinion, you’re allowed to have a different one. No hate, pls)
