Me: *comes out as trans to my mom, explaining that I haven’t been around because I know our family is transphobic and I was worried about my safety*

My mom: *guilts me about not being around and accuses me of being selfish for thinking she wouldn’t accept me (while literally in the same breath saying she would never accept me?)*

My mom: *spends Christmas making a point to call me “daughter/sister/niece/granddaughter/she/her/girl girl GIRL” whenever she possibly can even though I’m sitting there with a fucking beard*

My mom, with her magnum opus: *gifts me a custom ordered mug with a giant picture of my pre-t face that says “forever my daughter” above it (and leaves the order slip inside showing she ordered it two days after I came out to her)*

My mom, the next day: “I hope your drive gave you the opportunity to ponder the events of these last couple days and see how much I love you.” 😘 🥰💗🫶🏻

“Did you mean for that to sound [X]?”

“Was that something that I needed to hear, or just something you needed to say?”

“Did saying that make you feel better?”

“Are you aware of how that statement makes me feel?”

“If you continue to intentionally misgender me I will leave until you choose to be respectful”

I had a conversation with a friend the other night about how I’m anxious about going home for the holiday. I told her how scared I was that my relationship with my family will be changed forever by the end of it, and how it might even be the last time I ever see them.

You know what she said?

“That fucking sucks. That fucking sucks for them. Because you know what? You’re a cool fucking dude. And they don’t deserve to know you in that way. They’ll never get to know the amazing person you are, and

that fucking sucks for them.”
