“You will never escape from here”
OK, just stop.
I’ll lay odds that a fair number of the people who decided to mock and pillory her “you can only have 30 books” idea (myself included) had no idea who she was, what nationality she was, or even what she looked like. Her name isn’t particularly obviously Asian, and it’s not like the various articles of comment specified her ethnicity in the headline, which let’s be honest, is all any of us read before w started crafting our comedy.
All I knew was there was another tidiness guru trying to tell us to simplify.
And Henry David Thoreau notwithstanding, the whole modern minimalist movement is aimed at the wealthy. They’re the ones who make claims like “You don’t need to have all these plates, just keep a few, and if you’re having a big party, buy more”. It all centers on the idea of you’re rich enough not to have to hang on to all this stuff till you need it, you can just buy more.
Well,no, sorry, that ain’t the case. And so us poor and middle class people hang on to that half a bottle of antibiotics we didn’t finish, cause they cost money, and maybe the next time we get sick we can take those and save the cost of going to the doctor.
And we keep all those books and DVDs because, again, they cost money, and maybe we won’t watch that movie again for a couple years, but we don’t have the money (or the interest to spend the money we have) to throw it out and buy it again when we want to have it, just so we can have room on our shelves for one more Longaberger basket filled with potpourri.
So put your faux offense away, stop trying to get us to apologize for things that weren’t even under consideration, and let us have our rage about one more person who telling us to get rid of our stuff.
She’s not out Mom, and neither are you.
You just admitted that you have no idea what her philosphy is.
First of all, she never said “you can only have 30 books.” She said that if having BOOKSHELVES UPON BOOKSHELVES of books sparks joy, leave it be. HER PERSONAL bookshelf has 30 books.
Secondly, Marie Kondo’s advice has NEVER been about getting rid of plates and dvds for the sake of having less. Plates have use. They spark joy by being there when you need them. A DVD or a book sparks joy for a poor person because it’s there, and you don’t have to spend any more money than you already did for a little R&R. Antibiotics, under her philosphy, would spark joy for you the same way as plates: by being there when you need them (even though your stance on antibiotics is medically unsafe and dangerous for both you and those you meet AT BEST).
You obviously don’t know shit about Marie Kondo because if you did, you would know that she literally isn’t anything you described. Her method is tailored to the person she’s helping. If you can find any reason an object is useful to you, including “it makes me feel secure to know its there” or “i cant afford another one so i need this one” you keep it. The fact that you hate her so much is a product of you buying into the media shitstorm that has surrounded her and distorted her message.
Kondo isn’t trying to tell poor people to eat off of one fucking plate and own one plant and thats it. She’s helping hoarders and people who feel guilty about getting rid of things. She’s helping people get rid of gifts they never used, shirts they never wore, and above all she is helping people who WANT to declutter. For fuck’s sake, she’s not holding a gun to your head and telling you to keep a single spaghetti noodle in your pantry.
All you’re “raging” at is a woman who genuinely wants people to feel less overwhelmed in their life and to develop healthy levels of attachment and inattachment. If you don’t feel overwhelmed or want to declutter, she’s not asking you to. The media is twisting her words so heavily as an act of racism, and decrying her cultural reasons behind her philsophy as “asian woo woo”. By mindlessly buying into her recharacterization as a stupid western minimalist, you’re buying into everything else as well.
She’s not your Mom? Then ignore her. She has 0 relevance to you. Stop contributing to the mob hatred of a woman who’s done literally nothing to deserve it besides say “Hey, if you want me to help you, I will.”
So, in conclusion
It is so fascinating how people who have CLEARLY never read Kondo’s book or seen even a single episode of her show think they know enough about her to 1. Hate her 2. Give some kind of commentary on what she does.
Marie Kondo is straight up not a minimalist. She doesn’t focus on getting rid of stuff. She doesn’t focus on having particular numbers of books or plates.
She has a background as a Shinto shrine maiden, and her approach to objects is heavily informed by the animism of that background. She believes that any object you own should be cared for and respected. It should have a use, even if that use is just making you happy, and in return YOU treat it with care by having a place for it.
That’s it. She NEVER tells anyone how much or little they should keep, and she NEVER shames anyone for keeping a lot. She helps people look at the mountains of clutter and gives them the tools to make choices on whether or not those things are useful.
There’s one episode of her show with a husband who collects sneakers. Has collected sneakers since he was a little kid. He has literally HUNDREDS of pairs of them, some of them literally falling apart in their boxes and never worn. In the end, I think that guy still kept about 80 pairs. Got rid of a lot, yes, but 80 pairs. And Marie was happy for him, because he sat down and decided which ones he really wanted to keep and care for.
One episode is about a couple who’s kids are all in college. The husband has thousands of baseball cards. He collected them with their kids. They are on old, yellowing boxes, stacked to the ceiling in a side room. In the end? I think he kept ALL of them, but he got some nicer boxes for them to keep them from being damaged and found a better way to display them. They all sparked joy for him, so he found a way to care for them better. And Marie told him that she was happy and proud of him for that.
It’s not about what you get rid of. It’s about what objects you want in your life and treating them as such.
People need to not read 1 or 2 fucking headlines and just decide that they think they know all about this woman and her career. It’s not funny. It’s disrespectful.
Also, I would like to point out that Marie has (iirc) a 0% return rate. Meaning none of her clients rehire her because they fell off the wagon and started collecting junk again. This is because she specifically tailors her approach to each client. This means that following the method she creates for them is easier because it’s not a “one size fits all” approach. She considers each clients needs and abilities and personal situations before applying her philosophy in a way that accommodates them.
For example, one woman was a widow and was having a hard time letting go of her husband’s things. So Marie switched up her whole method and did it out of order so this woman had more time to address other parts of her house before having to, first thing, go through her husband’s things to donate or throw away that obviously had deep emotional meaning to her. She knew this would be an emotional process for this women and decided to leave the harder part for last, even though it’s usually first in her methodology, because Marie understood going through other things would help this woman get comfortable with the philosophy and how to follow it in a way that worked for her so when she finally had to face her husband’s things, it would be a little easier because she already had experience in following Marie’s approach.
Does that sound like another “rich trendy minimalist” to you? Or someone who genuinely wants to help people and has the skills necessary to teach them how organize their lives in a manageable, easily followed way that doesn’t stress them out or force them to make rash decisions about their property. Tbh if you still think it’s the former then I’m sorry to break it to you but you’re just a flat out racist. 🙃
We love Marie Kondo in this house sir
this bitch really thought they were onto something, when they fill on admitted that they knew absolutely nothing about marie kondo huh. thought they could form a whole fucking opinion on her when they didn’t know jackshit about here. wow. wish i had that much arrogance (jk)
so a racist got utterly demolished in less than 30 seconds on the New Zealand morning news on Monday and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen
who knew a white guy could be capable of such an iconic response, he knows what’s up and is having none of that shit, every other white guy take notes tbh
I love that he said Pakeha
Can someone write what its being said in this?
Male co-host: We have had a whole heap of feedback regarding Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis’s proposal to institute a prison run on Māori values into New Zealand. He’s looking at potentially establishing this prison up north. It isn’t Labour policy just yet, it’s just an idea of Kelvin Davis’s. And this has been really really divisive on our Facebook page this morning. (sarcastically) Here I think we have the single greatest email, the single greatest message we have ever had on breakfast.
(clears throat deliberately) “’Janice’ says: Good morning. I’m sick of hearing that Māori need different treatment. If they don’t want to live in our society, then maybe we should put them all on an island and leave them to it.”
Male co-host: “Janice. That is LITERALLY what happened! That is the history of our country. Last I checked, Māori WERE on an island, they were left to it, and then Pākehā (Māori term for white New Zealanders) turned up and look how that worked out. But thank you very much for that brilliant insight. Goodness me. Unbelievable. Unbelievable, they actually-“
Female co-host: “Actually, you can’t even get angry, you just actually need to laugh and then screw it up and put it under the desk. Just when you thought-“
Male co-host: (mimicking letter) “’Put them all on an island, leave them to it.’ Yeah. What a great idea that is Janice.
I really need “What a great idea that is, Janice.” to be a meme filled with those stupid complete cognitive dissonance bigoted statements.
Janice is clearly Karen’s Kiwi Cousin.
I will never not reblog. AND remind everyone that John Tame is NOT a ‘white guy’ (as OP came to realise), he is Maori. And absolutely taking none of that colonialist shit :-)

im begging this website to stop informing me of current events like this
In 2016, over 75,000 mail-in ballots were left uncounted and discarded because they were received after mail-in voting deadlines, which all vary by state, according to CBS news.
Some states like California allow you to check with the Registrar of Voters on-line to verify both if a ballot has issued and if it was received to help prevent voting errors.
Remember, the most common forms of voter fraud are 1) gerrymandering, 2) voter suppression and 3) foreign participation through both lobbying and online misinformation.
OCTOBER 13. IT’S BEING DELIBERATELY SLOWED. OCTOBER 13.
Also know that in most states you can also drop it off either at a polling place or the county elections office too
The postal service is being deliberately slowed.
i’m not american but i’m still reblogging this
please please please everyone who can vote make sure you’re registered and check when your ballot needs to be in. they are deliberately slowing things down so be careful and cautious about this, play it safe.
The choice is always yours. Whatever society may claim, it can’t control you. As mother has proven.

Protesting is a FELONY in Tennessee now…Facism at it’s finest (x)
I’m sorry, but people need to know this. This is LITERALLY the most blatant telltale sign of totalitarianism and this needs to be spread like wildfire. DO NOT LOOK AWAY.
Here’s an actual link, since the one above seems to just go to Reddit:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/08/13/tennessee-camping-felony-capitol/%3foutputType=amp
“This is all about criminalizing peaceful protesting,” said Justin Jones, an organizer of the protesters who have camped at the state capito
It’s important to point out that protesting generally hasn’t been made a felony, but rather the camping that the protestors are doing (and the legislation also includes other things to discourage protesting).
This is still really bad though, because the right to peaceful protest is protected in the Constitution, and even if protesting isn’t outlawed outright the government is still criminalizing an act of peaceful protest just because it’s a protest.
Furthermore:
According to tn.gov felons in Tennessee lose their right to vote. This is called Felony Disenfranchisement
So this means that the Tennessee government just passed legislation that would render the protestors unable to vote.
I’m sorry lemme repeat that again
the Tennessee government just passed legislation thar would render the protestors unable to vote
