Are you aware that your counterpart is trying to steal your pet / girlfriend, for whatever reason? Probably some nasty scheme.

There was a bit of silence. The president had to admit that he didn't know exactly what went on. Something about an arrow then suddenly those two were closer than ever before. Maybe he shouldn't have been so busy with his second-in-command, but he couldn't help it.

Lately, he'd been dealing with something from his past, but that was a completely different story.

The click of a pen regained his composure and put focus on the question asked to him. "How idiotic of you to think that he could steal what has and will always be mine," He spoke flatly as he concentrated on the paperwork in front of him, signing the dotted line on each piece of paper.

"If anyone is scheming it's her, not him," He could help to let the bit of jealousy rise through him and out of his mouth. "Who does she think she is running around Other Mes, I gave her this life that she has now, I'm the one who helped her and this is how she repays me?"

A slam of a fist on the surface rumbled the entire desk. He could feel his heart racing, breath quickening. Damn. Maybe he should get a drink to help relax him.

Rick what’s your opinion of the First Lady meg?

For a moment, Rick would think carefully about his words. Speaking anything ill of her (not that he had anything like that to say) could cost him. And he already managed to make it through a week without being punished. He would like it to stay that way.

"I-I think she's a very nice girl," He began, tone neutral and professional. "A lot of Mortys on the Citadel enjoy seeing her with the president and I know less than 20% of Ricks find her amusing and cute... in a mocking type of way,"

Yet, those were just facts. Not his own opinion. It was so hard to find it these days. On everything that he spoke about.

Clearing his throat, he continued on. "H-Her obsession with the president is evident and I-I'm mostly overlooked by her, so we hadn't properly talked yet. I-I think she's good for him, but I feel a little... bad for her..."

That last sentence caused him to pull down his sleeve, fidgeting with the hem. "O-Other than that, sh-she's really great, I think."

This was surprising. The first lady asking if he wanted some cake. At this point, he started to think that he was just some decoration in the room. Something that went unnoticed by everyone. Specifically that of his boss.

And, well, it was a nice thought. That he could be included, too, in the festivities.

"Sure, wh-what flavor is it?"

Normally she would be more over the top with her gestures but she got the impression he wasn’t crazy over his birthday but she still wanted to make him feel loved and appreciated. (Evilmcg)

The president should have come to expect these types of things from Meg. She held a different mindset compared to his own. Something akin to that of his second-in-command. And so he would have to put up with it. Not that it wasn't much to put up with.

"Thank you, just leave it over at the bar," He swooshed his hand in the air, vaguely directing over to the cart on the other side of the room. Where it held the whiskey and glasses he drank. "I'll open the gift later."

Right now, he would busy himself with his paperwork. There were things he needed to settle by the end of the day. Blueprints to look over, documents to sign. None of which could wait.

It was nearing the afternoon and Morty couldn't believe that he let his second-in-command talk him into taking a break from the work that kept piling up on his desk. Not just that, but being blind-folded with a thick yellow ribbon and having to rely on holding the man's hand to be guided somewhere, just felt humiliating.

"Where are you taking me anyway?"

"Sir, please, i-it's a surprise..."

That only elicited a huff from the president, but it didn't matter. He was just hoping that this wouldn't take long. He needed to get stuff done and he wasn't about to let anything else get in the way.

Once the walking came to a slow, the first sounds he noticed were the loud echo of his shoes on a tiled floor. His immediate guess was that they were in some kind of auditorium. That's all he could distinguish.

The blind-fold was slipped off of him and he was presented within, what he had guessed, the auditorium. Gold and black balloons were decorated through-out. Decorations hung from high places, specifically a mismatched colored sign that wrote the words 'Happy Birthday.'

This was the most surprising thing that could have happened to him today. Though, given that his second-in-command was known for frills, he couldn't exactly not have expected it.

"It's...."

In a nervous stammer, the second-in-command interrupted. "I-I know, sir, y-you don't like celebrating your birthday. But, I thought this year, th-that I would do something special for you...."

A beat of silence.

".... It's adequate, nice job, I need to get back to work, but," Another bit of silence. "Later, you can take me out dinner."

"Y-Yes, sir, I'm glad that you like it. See you later..."

@countlessrealities sent; It's the middle of the morning when a small portal, large enough for a hand to slip through, opens right above the surface of the President's desk. Before anyone can react, a vial filled with a pearly white liquid is deposited on it by slender fingers and the next moment the portal has already closed, as quickly as it has appeared.

Attached to the vial, there's a brief note.

“I'm aware that you can get your hands on effective truth serums, but this is for when you feel like being less boring. One drop on the skin and the subject will bleed out in agony a little more with every lie they tell. Have fun.”

It's not signed, but then again, it's an easy guess. After all, how many people deliver this kind of gift?

It'd been a busy morning. Not because of the fact that the president had a lot to do, it was with the speed of what he wanted to. He wanted to get through all of the boring necessities so he could conduct his special surprise later for his counterpart. And in order to free up all of his evening time? He would have to spend all morning hunched over work.

Though, a quick distraction came and was welcomed. After all, seeing a small hand-sized portal and a mysterious substance land on his desk, he found it intriguing. And he couldn't have been mad at that.

As he read the note, ideas sparked within his mind. Evident in the half smile that now appeared on his face. Who knew that birthday gifts could actually be fun and useful at the same time?

A hummed chuckle left his throat as he took the vial and set it within the drawer of his desk. He knew exactly who he would use it on. There was no other person he loved to torture the most and this would be perfect.

Even if he knew his own second-in-command would never lie to him. That wouldn't stop him from having as much fun as he wanted.

@countlessrealities sent; Waking up on the morning of his birthday, the current President of the Citadel would find a small box on his nightstand, wrapped in blood red paper and decorated with a slender golden ribbon. The box in itself is made of dark, polished wood, padded on the inside with a soft and silky material. On it rests a book-shaped locket, its silvery surface finely inlaid with constellations patterns. In the very middle of its cover, a small, circular yellow gemstone.

Once opened, the locker reveals that its insides host two small mirrors, even if there's still enough room to hold a small object. In that moment, said space was occupied by a thin red thread, weaved to look like a chain.

Next to the gift there's a hand-written note, and the calligraphy unmistakably gives away whom the sender is, even without the signature that concludes it.

“Dear other me, I'll have you knowing that celebrating birthdays isn't something I'm used to do. I never have and there is a reason why I made sure that such peace of information is redacted and unaccessible. However, of course, you wouldn't need to look it up to know...for obvious reasons. I've anticipated that you'd get me a present even against my wishes, so I decided to reciprocate. It wouldn't be very fair if I was the only one to receive something on this day. I hope you'll forgive me if the gift smaller and perhaps not as meaningful as my previous ones. As I've said, I don't consider birthdays something to be celebrated. This said, I wish you a pleasant day and to enjoy your plans, if you made any for the occasion. - Mortimer P.S.: You look cuter than I had imagined in your sleep.”

This certainly wasn't anything that the president had expected upon waking up. His eyes were immediately drawn to the box. He didn't need any more coaxing than that to get himself sat up in bed to open it up. With delicate precision and all, he would make sure that he carefully unwrapped it.

He carefully took the locket within his hand. Using the thread attached to dangle it before his eyes. Watching as the gemstone caught the artificial sunlight that shone through the curtains of his bedroom.

It would be foolish to say anything else other than that it was beautiful. Something that he had never been gifted before. For a moment, he couldn't think anything of it.

Yet, somewhere deeper in his mind -- that original 14 year old self from before -- came up with fragmented thoughts. Delusional ones.

Shaking his head, he lowered down the locket onto the nightstand next to him. Instead of focusing on those idiotic thoughts, he decided to read the note.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't help to soft hint of a smile and that swell within his heart. Now that was something he wouldn't read too much into. After all, this was just part of their game. And he intended on winning it.

Whatever that entailed.

"Cute," Was all he whispered to himself. The note was folded up neatly before he slid himself out of the bed. Slowly walking over towards one of the dressers. Inside of the drawers, he neatly placed it on top of the other notes that his counterpart had sent ever since they started their back and forth. "Really cute."
