Okay kids, it’s Discourse Time

When it comes to tv shows, I tend to be really empathetic with characters, so I can often see both sides of most conflicts. The same is true here with the debate over the list (except Monty not being on it, that’s just Bullshit).

I understand why Clarke made the list, I understand the concept behind it. The world is ending and not everyone can be saved (although, you know, they could spend a little more time brainstorming another way to survive), so there needs to be a plan in place for the continued existence of the human race. Clarke is doing what she can to save as many people as she knows how. This is a pragmatic, utilitarian decision, and it makes sense.

But I will fight anyone who tells me that Monty and Jasper don’t also have a right to be angry. Clarke is doing what she always does- putting herself in the position of God and assuming the right to decide who lives or dies. She’s taking it upon herself to decide who’s worth more than whom, and she’s doing it in secret. Everyone has a right to know what’s happening, and everyone has as much right as Clarke does to have a say in that list. Sure, she’s led them in the past and she’s sacrificed for them- but most of the main characters have, and helping people does not give you the right to make unilateral decisions for them, especially if that decision is literally life or death. 

It can be argued that this is arrogance in its highest form. There’s a problem, and Clarke has to play the hero, she has to make the hard decisions. No one but her can save everyone (even though using Arkadia was Monty’s idea), so she just has to decide who lives and who dies for everyone else. There’s absolutely no choice but for Clarke to assume responsibility for everyone and make completely autocratic decisions. She has to.

Again, I’m not necessarily siding against Clarke. She’s trying to save people. But it’s bullshit to bash other characters for taking issue with her playing god.

monty has seriously been a part of every major thing on the 100?? (from s1-s4) he’s highly resourceful w such a smart brain and i don’t think there would be many of those people on that list?? (hes helped and come up w plans that can literally save so many people) he deserves to be here entirely he was w clarke through the whole mount weather thing like literally TILL THE END and helped in whatever way he could in s3 as well his engineering skills are AMAZING and like im not just saying this because i adore monty and he’s smol (and has literally been w clarke through out even when his own best friend hated her guts) but even from an objective point of view he fucking deserves his name on the list !!

like i really thought it was a given that he’d be on the list like there’s no thinking in that decision? it’s so obvious? how can she NOT put him on the list wtf

Monty: is an engineer, has saved his people time and time again, comes up with the idea of using the ark to save everyone.

Monty: doesn't make the list because a petulant white girl with no relevant skills and anger issues is more important apparently.

yeah its like they took a character who had previously shown no interest in women, who's strongest relationship in the show had been with his male best friend and randomly threw him at a single female character (because, you know, all female characters have to be love interests -_-) so they could have random heterosexual sex without any build up

was it just me who thought the harper/monty scene was a bit random and out of place? like im not sure i would have minded it as much if there had been legit build up instead of one hug scene and a couple of glances before it :/ his relationship with jasper had far more development than his one with harper ever did

i know?? i know. i know. i was surprised because i genuinely didn’t see it coming. Maybe it’s just because i was paying more attention to the plot for once than to character. But honestly, some part of me always sort of genuinely believed that Monty would turn out to be canonically gay. and while that’s still technically a possibility, it doesn’t seem very likely

hey! I feel kinda weird for asking this, but I just made my first gifsets ever and I was wondering if you'd maybe like to check them out? I'd like to know if they're working properly everywhere and well - just kinda trying to get the word out. i've tagged them as jess gifs and they're from the seasons finale. Also, I'd love to hear your opinions on the finale?! I'm sorry for bothering you like this, how has your day been? I hope you have a lovely week!

Don’t worry about it; I’d actually already found them in the Jonty tags and reblogged them! Having just made my first gifsets myself a few weeks ago (on a different blog for a different fandom), I can tell you those are really good, especially for your first time; WAY better than mine. As for my opinion on the finale, for the most part, I’m afraid that’ll have to wait. I don’t handle the deaths of characters i like very well, so I spent most of this season distancing myself from the show. They kept killing characters I liked, I was pretty sure Jasper was going to die, and there wasn’t nearly enough Jonty to compel me to stay. For those reasons, most of what I know about what’s been happening this season is what I’ve learned by going down the Monty Green and Jasper Jordan tags every week. Knowing what happens in the finale, though, I think I’m going to go back and finally watch all the episodes I missed.

 For what I do know, I’m pretty grateful that Jasper’s out of the CoL, that Monty’s okay (relatively speaking), and that they’re both alive and are making up. I tend to agree with those who theorize that Jasper was originally going to kill himself; that certainly did seem to be where the scene was heading, but I’m immensely glad they didn’t go through with it. That would have been very discouraging to many people for  a variety of reasons, and Jasper actually low-key means the world to me. Also, Monty’s been through enough, and he did NOT need to lose his best friend again on top of everything else.
