By the same token, you don't have to wait until you're ready to get moving, to start making the changes you know you want. We can let a million things stop us, trying to wait until the moment is just right. Time, money, etc. Make it ugly, make raw, until it's so darn polished like the way water cuts thru rock over 100s of years, that no one can take it away from you. I'm just running my mouth now. But get up and move! You know you wanna. This is the frogger's stretch, plus some spinal extension (don't be afraid to explore). Don't be afraid of the textured grittiness of life. Revel in it! It's what make you, YOU. Get outside and kick your shoes off! And if your feet are currently too sensitive for that, try some minimalist foot-shaped shoes (i.e. @vivobarefoot @earthrunners @altrarunning @lunasandals @vibramff)! The 26 bones of your feet will thank you for the mobility exercise. Graded exposure means respecting the adaptive capacity of the human body. Don't forget the old adage, too much too soon, and work at YOUR level. It also means, don't be a doofus, but instead buy the casual minimalist footwear first (not the running shoes for GOODNESS sake)! But a little bit more and more each week, and you'll be amazed what those little twinkle toes of yours can do! . #movementminute !!! Get up and shake your groove thang. It doesn't take more than a minute to do something good for the body. Remember the bear crawl? Maybe, maybe not? Great for your core and hamstring mobility. Tips: start on your hands and knees, hands directly under the shoulders, knees under the hip joint, spread your fingers wide, spiral the eyes of the elbows forward (external rotation) and come up into the A-Frame shape - like your downward dog. Right hand, then left foot. Take small steps, and make sure the step with the hand is the same length as the step with the foot. Next, have fun with it! I feel 💪🏽 and I can't thank Dr. Garrick enough! Your squat may look different, that's ok. Your twist may look different, that's ok. I did a demo at 2 different heights, it doesn't matter. Squat & twist! Who said we had to choose one!? We all know a multimodal approach is best. I'm a manual therapy trained orthopedic physical therapist, which means, I'm decent with my 👐🏽s. But, I never like to keep a patient on the treatment table for more than half of a session. At Latitude, movement is first and second, followed by hands on treatment, and maybe topped off with some movement re-education. So I did a crazy thing! I ran in my primitive sandals from @earthrunners in a relay from Austin to Corpus Christi, TX for the Cap to Coast relay. 223 miles with a 12 man team (@rawrunning) and we took home 1st place! . But it was no simple feat. The amount of preparation that goes into an event like this is an undertaking. So thankful for the people at RAW and @underarmour for making this possible. I can't wait to see the footage as well! . Of the 3 legs I ran, which added up to about 20 miles total, I was happy with two of the efforts, while the first leg was a disaster, but also outside of my control. Long story short, I got a huge thorn stuck in my foot! . Didn't let it stop me though. Finished the rest of the 20-some-hour race bloodied, bandaged and happier every step closer to the finish line! . Moral of the story reminded me that as humans we all fail. It's simply part of the experience. You can either let it fester and spoil your mind, or push on further despite the odds. If you're not failing at some point, you're probably not pushing yourself hard enough. Important things to remember for #runners but also anyone who is struggling.
