idk I can tell that some tumblrinas are not up on fat politics because I see a lot of people saying stuff like “it’s better to be a little fat than waste your life trying to be thin” or like “it’s chic to have a little belly” like okay but there are fat people who are “a lot fat” and have “a lot of belly” which everyone is weirdly silent on all the time. Like the fattest person on earth still deserves to exist in human society with joy and dignity regardless of how they got to that weight or how many health conditions they have as a result of their personal actions…that should be everyone’s baseline here I’m not really sure what’s complicated about it

I think a lot of this is tied to how the body positivity movement changed from basic respect to finding people attractive. Because the attitude has become “they’re still pretty despite x”, a lot of what people try to defend is what they would still consider attractive. Instead of having the stance of “this person deserves basic human dignity regardless of any body weight, disability, disfigurement, etc” it’s focused on the attractiveness of the person. By having this change people only talk about what they consider acceptable/desirable (only having A LITTLE chub, tummy, whatever), and is also how you get people saying stuff like “it’s okay to be fat so long as you don’t have any related health issues.”

One of my reading pet peeves is when the writer did research on a subject and is trying very, very hard to incorporate every bit of knowledge they gathered into their writing. You end up with lines upon lines of information that is only mildly interesting and not at all relevant to the story

I'm starting to understand where Sparks of Tomorrow is going and that's... a season 2.

There's only 13 episodes on this show. We are halfway through the end. We know almost nothing of the characters, the romance between the main leads is almost non-existant, there's no real plot, no real villain, no true direction. It's all "machine of the week". This format makes the show feel like filler episode after filler episode, imo. It is fun!! For sure!! But there's no substance. Too bad because there was a lot of potential there...

Suzanne Collins just said fuck you to everyone who’s ever critiqued the Hunger Games as being a “teen girl saves the day” story. She said oh, Mockingjay didn’t make it clear enough? Here’s a book about how people have been rebelling for decades only to have their efforts suppressed and propagandized. Rebellion takes time and it takes failure and Katniss may have been the spark that ignited the wildfire but she did so standing atop the doused flames of everyone who came before her.
