Regarding Scarabee
Hey guys, we’ve been meaning to do this for a long time, and we have realized that it hadn’t been done, so I decided I’d take it on myself real quick to correct something! Regarding Scarabee, in things we have previously written/drawn we have referenced his practice as Voodoo. After more extensive research into the practice we had realized that it was a closed practice, that none of us are a part of or know extensively about, and we didn’t want to appropriate anyone’s culture/religion for the sake of writing a character. After finding this out we decided that the core of his story and lore didn’t line up with that of Voodoo and decided that it was best to just drop that descriptor, as it was incorrect and insensitive. I have been working slowly on a religion based off GodNaga!Beetlejuice (since I was the one who made him it’s pretty easy to just come up with something for him) so we don’t inadvertently harm the story, the character, any feelings, or offend anyone. That will be posted once it is finished, in the mean time we’ve been simply vaguely referring to it as things like “His craft, magic” etc… Sorry for the sudden strange post, I just wanted to make it clear now that we have more and more people interested in writing/drawing for them! Old works will likely still have Voodoo referenced, we can’t expect people to return to old works and change everything, but it is outdated, and no longer correct. In future content created for Scarabee, please refrain from using the terms “Voodoo” or “Hoodoo”. He will have his very own world based religion to avoid any issues in the futute.
