in the club thinking about how jared hopworth is an idiot but also how the fandom is fundamentally missing the point about his character

he’s not one dimensional. what he wants is love and companionship. he talks about his father’s pride in him being tall, and you can fill in the blanks that there wasn’t anything else he felt proud about. his mother was evidently stern. he realized as he grew up that he wasn’t book smart, and probably was never going to leave where he was, and that the world around him resented him for that kind of an existence

so naturally he takes to the flesh. as people are exiting his life en masse, suddenly he has this ability to shift people. to make them happier. to make himself more complete. but he discovers this joy he has is a horror for some.

elias didn’t just send jared information on where to find bones, victims - he sent him information on where to find friends. jared is perfectly cool just chilling out running a gym and contorting people who are unhappy with their bodies, friends who won’t leave him

the flesh is primarily about the horror of being grist for the mill - jared is a beast marked for the slaughter of a society that had deemed him unacceptable, unworthy. his lack of wanting anything bigger than the satisfaction of being enough - for himself, his friends, his patron - speaks volumes about how deeply his need for affection runs

this post starts off with some discussion about butch/femme identities on a whole, but it does come back around to georgie and is ultimately a POSITIVE POST so i am asking very nicely right off the bat, please do not comment with negativity! i am just trying to connect harmlessly with a woman who i believe deserves to be seen as handsome and strong the same way i want to be seen like that. i’m writing this in celebration of something beautiful.

thank you i’m in tears now consider also that when they were in college she would express discontent with her current more feminine wardrobe and jon would be like oh i’ll take that if you don’t want it and they’d TRADE stuff because even though he’s so much skinnier than she is he also didn’t know how the fuck to shop for himself at the time so he just had a shitload of oversized shirts that she really loved and she thought oh maybe i love this because it’s a boyfriend shirt nope she loved it because it was masculine and it felt right 

and he noticed so there’s at least one time he buys a new shirt in her favorite color that is purposefully closer to her exact size and wears it a few times and catches her eyeing it and making fun of the fit so he pretends he doesn’t like it and it ends up just going to her and some part of her knows he did that on purpose and it was just a very convoluted gift and she still has it to this day

and one day melanie plucks it from her closet to lounge around the house in it and georgie passes her on the couch and immediately just bowls over laughing and melanie is PRETTY HORRIFIED to know she’s been wearing JON’S shirt for the last two hours

but it smells like georgie so it’s fine

in light of the last few episodes, PLEASE be aware of how you talk about blindness/visual impairment! blind =/= helpless and i'm incredibly dismayed to see so many people in the fandom think otherwise

i think i know why there aren't entities for other feelings besides fear

i was trying to think about what the archives for the entity of joy might look like. ykno maybe it's like the america's funniest home videos offices or something

but then i noticed it's not enough for everybody who goes there to be really good joke tellers who are always cracking up

like the magnus archives, or any entity, makes you live in a state of constant engagement with it. causes you to be surrounded by it constantly. and like, the further down that road you go, the more terrifying it always becomes, regardless of your starting point

in the laughter entity archives the people would be getting progressively more constantly joyful in the pursuit of some kind of extreme threshold. and laughing or smiling without being able to stop, or becoming part of some pleasantville paradise alt reality, these are scenes from horror stories, not comedies

there cant be any entities besides those for fear because any emotion taken to the extreme of absolute personification becomes uncanny and horrifying

this also might explain why the beholding seems to be at the centre of all the entities. because everything to do with them begins with the obsessive focussing on fear and some particular aspect of it

iv seen some people in the fandom be confused about what caused the computer episode #65 binary. the wiki even cites it being hotly debated and names the end, flesh, spiral, even extinction

but iv always thought it was kinda clearly the beholding

at least in the story of ushanka. im not sure about tessa winters. maybe she was just a witness

the beholding isnt just the fear of paranoia, and being watched. it's also the fear of being the watcher and the endless pursuit of the unknown. of the obsessive observation required to be ceaselessly vigilent against the other entities

this is why the beholding stands against the other entities most of the time. this is what ushanka was pursuing in binary, the desparate pursuit of a solution for his mortality. the insane project of digitising the mind. and the horrible fate he discovered when he got his wish and uncovered the otherwordly knowledge he was looking for

this is why the beholding is in the middle of all the entities. because at the core of all the fears, every avatar, every person affected by them, every statement

is obsession
