the black phone is one of those horror movies that looks like it would be incredibly mid and then you watch it and it's genuinely a mind-blowing portrayal of the horrors of abuse and how little delineation there is between an abusive parent and someone willing to kidnap and brutally murder children. the fact that ghosts are just manifestations of violence, and the person enacting that violence will always be scarier than any supernatural force.

I mean, we all know the ramifications of using generative ai, the harm it deals to the environment, but let me be a little selfish and hear me out here

What does your website using ai tell me? It tells me you’re a sucker for convenience over quality. It tells me you don’t value art as a pillar of culture in our world. It tells me you’d rather use a cheap shortcut than put thought into your creation. It makes me assume the website is lazy, cheap, and doesn’t deserve my attention.

so in The Merchant of Venice, the direct translation for "I think he only loves the world for Bassanio." is "I think Bassanio means the world to Antonio."

Now i'm so shakespeare genius, but "I think he only loves the world for Bassanio." just hits so much harder than the translation, because it's implying that the only reason Antonio sees good in the world is because of Bassanio, that the only reason he could love the world is because of the one person who exists in it. it doesn't just mean "he means a lot to him", no- it means Bassanio is all the reasons Antonio himself exists in the world, the only reason that anything is even worth loving.
