As a huge fan of the Full Cast Audio production of the His Dark Materials trilogy married by Philip Pullman, I was a little wary of Michael Sheen’s narration of The Book of Dust. But holy shit. It was amazing.

how do you pronounce daemon? because that's probably why people are saying spirit animal instead, haha. have you taken the test to see what yours is?

I pronounce it like demon (de-MAN), since that’s how it’s pronounced in the audiobooks narrated by Philip Pullman.

 I honestly don’t really believe in any of the tests. I’ve taken several but can’t remember what they said. I think my daemon would have settled as a redwinged blackbird, especially reflecting on myself at the age of 14 or so.

Could a parent touch their child's daemon?

I imagine this would be hideously offensive, and a gross invasion of privacy. If a child’s daemon needs to be cared for or touched for any reason, I imagine the parent’s daemon would touch the child’s daemon.

Does the daemon and the person sleep at the same time, or could the daemon be awake while the person sleeps and vice versa?

I believe there are instances of them sleeping at different times. 

I imagine that it’s possible, but that both prefer to sleep at the same time and that their sleep is more restful if it is simultaneous. It’s been mentioned several times that people and daemons share dreams, so perhaps they can only dream if they are asleep at the same time.

We've seen Pantalaimon take the form of a dragon once and that got me thinking: IMAGINE SETTLED DRAGON DAEMONS!!!!!

I hope you read the Book of Dust! It addresses this to a certain extent. it seems like it’s more difficult for daemons transform into mythological creatures, so I wonder if it would be possible for them to settle that way. If they could, imagine the possibilities. Creatures from mythology, a phoenix or unicorn, completely made up mash ups of animals, a dragon created exactly how just the two of them would create a dragon.

A cool idea: instead of appropriating "spirit animals," try saying dæmon instead. It is much less gross and much more awesome.
