Iron Lung 🩸 and The Entities 📼
welcome to said post about how the tma entities apply to iron lung
Spoiler warning for Iron Lung!!
the Vast: wide ocean, no end to it, can't leave, doesn't know what's out there, endless blood
the Flesh: (kinda obvious) the body horror, Simon's mutations, Simon ripping his arm out, his arms fusing to the submarine, the SM-13 growing vines and teeth on the walls, the eel being made of hundreds of humans, the blood being human blood
the Stranger: the eel impersonating the woman from the SM-8, the eel talking with other people's voices
the Buried: being submerged in a tiny, boiling hot submarine at the bottom of a blood ocean, the pressure being way top high for what the SM-13 was build to handle, going into the red zone on the meter within the first minutes and staying there, being unable to breathe, the glass cracking because the protective cover didn't close fast enough
the Spiral: time being weird, him being down there, alone with no contact for way too long, longer than what should've been possible, feeling dizzy, nothing making sense, seeing the shadow of a person in the corner of his eye, seeing his future self (?) in the chair
the Desolation: burning hot, destruction, can't breathe because of the temperature, blood everywhere, nothing comforting about the warmth even in the coldness of space, no water to drink, being afraid of being hurt and being in pain in there
the Corruption: the blood infesting him, eating away at his flesh, growing teeth and strange blisters, the blood creeping into the submarine, infesting it slowly, deliberately
the Dark: not being able to see what's out there, having no access to the window and even if he could leave the cover open he wouldn't see anything out there, having no light source in the sub, only the flash of the camera, no light to see in the crawl space underneath his feet, the shadow of the person rushing behind him
the Lonely: being utterly alone down there, not being able to contact the others when he's too deep or not at all after going astray, having no he's close with anymore, everyone and everything disappearing without a trace, the only other people left hating and resenting him, not being able to trust anyone
the Extinction: everything and everyone disappearing without a trace and having no explanation, the impending doom that comes with space stations and planets and resources being gone, the last tree dying
the Eye: the eel watching simon the entire time, listening to what he says, swimming near him, giving him the feeling that something is out there, being a convict of the c.o.i., both him and the c.o.i. needing to know what's out there, the c.o.i. wanting to research the blood moon so desperately, the camera, the pinhole god,
(of course, the viewers too, can't forget us being the watcher👁️)
okay, that's what i've got so far. these are the entities i think are the most prominent in iron lung, but i'm sure it's tied to the rest too in a way
(not sure where this fits, but it's one of my favourite scenes in the movie, it gave me such an "oh fuck" moment: when simon listens to the sm-8 logs and one says " stop drinking it", referring to the blood)
