i WILL take on the mark of the beast (video game essay youtuber) to defend ralof there is so much slander here he's such a sweetheart he tries to comfort everyone around them right before they DIE even when he's going to die and when he sees that you can still escape with your life he grabs you even though he doesnt know you. he's just a very genuine a kindhearted person regardless of your opinions on the war.

Ralof is literally the only reason why I ever join the stormcloaks in my play-throughs. He makes it clear, at least from how I interpreted the dialogue, that he doesn’t buy into the whole “skyrim is for the nords” stuff. He just wants to keep his homeland safe from the thalmor (well, empire but the thalmor are highly influential if not totally in control of the empire). We’re all entitled to our opinions, but I love him and that’s that.

Y’all can’t tell me that Brynjolf isn’t the most romantic and suave motherfucker out there. I’m talking being showered with stolen jewels, gold, the finest clothes, fresh flowers from noble gardens, your favorite sweets.. he’d scale the wall of your home and hang a bouquet of your favorite flowers outside your window and sneak you both into strictly “upper class” parties for the expensive food and kisses on a palace balcony. Steal a canoe or horse for a romantic boat ride or horse ride through the rift at sunset?? Absolutely he will.

For the free day of TES fest 2022! I just came back from another country so I wasn’t able to make as much as I would like, but I might be dropping in again soon!

Anyway, summer means summer haircut. There are two Nords with weekday jobs who set up some chairs and capes under a tree in someone’s backyard in Riften and call it a barbershop.

Teldryn doesn’t let them touch his hair, but goes for shaving the sides and the full beard trim. Darra always asks for the same low-maintenance cut. Inigo is just there for commentary like “You should get matching haircuts” or “Do they do eyebrows too?”

Ever wondered how many of Skyrim’s NPCs are Great War veterans, and how that shapes Skyrim’s current approach to the Civil War? I did, so I made a list.

Here is everyone for whom there’s dialogue confirming or suggesting they fought in the Great War. If there are multiple pieces of dialogue, I just took one.

An old Orcish proverb reads, “conquerors name the wars” — an apt description of how those in power shape our understanding of history. But this proverb is doubly true when it comes to matters of faith. Conquerors do more than name wars. They shape beliefs. If we accept the premise that those who hold the White-Gold Tower hold Tamriel in some fundamental sense, the primacy of Aedra makes perfect sense. Not because they are in fact superior, but because those in a position of supremacy insist that they are.

With a few notable exceptions, the story of Cyrodiil—and thus Tamriel writ large—has been shaped by those professing Aedric faiths. It began with the Aldmer and passed to the Ayleids. And while the Wild Elves flirted with Daedra-worship for a time, they paid a high price for it at the hands of the Alessians. From that point forward, the Aedra enjoyed special status in the realm of Tamrielic faith—a status that by definition diminished the standing of those races who cleaved to non-Aedric practice. Most of these races already suffered scorn and abuse at the hands of Men and Elves (Orcs, Argonians, and Khajiit), while others were regarded with cruel suspicion by their Elven kin (the Chimer, and later the Dunmer). All these people suffered—and still suffer—the privilege awarded to Aedra worshipers.

Long time followers of this blog know my beef with how the D.Aedra and their relationships to pantheons of the world are handled, and this is one of the first times I’m seeing something closer to my take (which is of different cultures interpreting greater powers as dieties, instead of non imperial cultures interpreting the imperial gods, cough cough post TES4 lore making it the default worldview)

Where old PGE editions and to some extent, TES3, were good at framing Cyrodiil as a culture with it’s beliefs who conquered others, that narrative’s been kinda lost. Add to this the insistance for fun points that the gods are characters with a distinct personality and you have a huge mess.

Nice to see ingame content steer away from that
