There's an entire category of Catholic folk magic that involves threatening and abusing statues of the saints until they do what you want! A famous example is burying a statue of St Joseph upside down in your yard to sell your house; once it's sold, you dig up the statue and "reward" it. The folklorist Sabina Magliocco talks about how Italian folk magic, in particular, has a strong quid pro quo element: in Sardinia, for example, villagers would throw parades for saints and carry their statues around town to ward off drought, but if the saint failed to come through, they'd dunk it in the well headfirst, and keep doing it until the rains came. the problem is that kink activities are socially acceptable and even expected, but having any awareness of the terminology or safe ways to play surrounding them is heavily stigmatized. kink anti-intellectualism is rampant among people of every political orientation because of how badly our society has poisoned us. so we can't even say Dom or sub to refer to ourselves. it's a symptom of that problem.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

i kinda want white people to feel excluded in my art, not in a mean way, but rather be exposed to art that decentralizes your existence through the lenses of non white (especially white American) characters.

so much art within the queer community focuses on white people and even when there are black or other main characters of color they are excluded or treated as they don't exist.

but yeah, my art isn't made for white audiences in mind but they can still enjoy it and find it relatable through other lenses.
