Curie idly looked through the bookshelf in Renee’s study, her gaze slipping over the titles. “I still think it would be best for you to just get your alcohol a different way.”

“And what way would that be?” Renee sat in her chair at her desk. She crossed her legs and watched the petite woman.

“I am unsure. ‘Owever way you no longer need to be injured in zhe process, I should say.” Curie picked up one book and was surprised to see the pages had not yet been cut. “Do you even read zhese?”

“Eh?” He unfolded the paper and his eyes scanned it, one eyebrow arched. “She don’t usually do this, then. All right. So what’ll it be?”

“I will ‘ave wine, if it is available.”

“Sure, got plenty.”

Curie took her glass and sat next to Anita at a small table. “It would seem Miss Jones is rather generous.”

Beast

“What exactly is zhe nature of zhis…zhis beast?”

“A giant dog—no, a wolf. A lion-dog? I’m not sure. But it’s terrifying.”

“And you willingly come to see it perform?”

Anita arched an eyebrow. “It only comes out when the moon is full, Curie. So yes, of course I come to see it perform! And you should be excited, it’s wonderful!”

“Hm.” Curie turned her attention back to the large ring where a couple were doing a trapeze act. She wasn’t exactly sure how she felt about seeing a beast, but she figured it couldn’t possibly be too bad. If they were showing it to the public, of course. Not that the circus seemed to care much about public safety, based on how close some of the firebreathers came to the audience.

Curie sighed and slumped back against the pillows propping her up. “Very well. As much as I would like to get some work done, I shall stay here.”

“Thank you.” Renee kissed her forehead. “The less you’re on that ankle, the faster it’ll heal.” She patted Curie’s thigh twice and stood up. “Shaun, I want you to help Curie if she needs anything, okay? And make sure she rests.”

Girls react to Sole being a show off, by doing parkour but then slipping and falling, hurting themselves in the process?

“Hey, check this out!” Sole stopped before a row of conveniently placed cars and debris stacked against a building and backed up. They took a running start and began using the cars and the wall to do a series of flips and jumps across the wide space. Their companion stood, surprised, until suddenly Sole missteped and crashed to the ground.

They ran toward them. “Sole!” Sole looked up, sheepish, a hand wrapped around their ankle. “I’m okay. It’s just a sprain.” Still, it was obvious the injury hurt.

Cait: She frowned, one hand on her hip. “I thought ye knew what you were doin’.” She sighed and held out her hand for them to take. “Now I gotta lug yer sorry ass to the nearest doc.” She steadied them and wrapped one arm about their waist.

Sole could see the way she clenched her jaw. “You’re worried about me,” they said, more out of surprise than anything.

A blush played across Cait’s freckled cheeks. “I-I mean, yeah, I guess! Only because now if some thing tries to eat us I gotta do all the hard work.”

“Sorry…”

“Hmph. At least it looked cool until you fucked up…”

Sole felt Cait’s arm tighten around their waist, pulling them closer. They smiled and Cait refused to look at them as her blush deepened.

Curie: “Oh no.” The Synth knelt before them and gently pried Sole’s hand away. She immediately set to work easing their boot off and murmured an apology at Sole’s squeak of pain. Her long fingers were cold as she poked and prodded. “Hm. I highly suggest a detour to a nearby settlement. Our mission can wait, yes?”

“It’s not that bad.”“Non, but still. You should be more careful, mon ami/e.” Curie dug around in her bag for a Stimpak. She was in charge of carrying their medical supplies, and she had a tendency to over-pack. Stimpaks, Med-X, bandages, materials for splints, slings, even a few hits of Psycho in case she needed to attempt to restart a heart (though thankfully they hadn’t come across anyone who was in that dire of a strait).

Sole inhaled sharply through their nose as Curie jabbed their calf with a Stim. “Thanks.” The pain began to ebb away almost immediately.

Curie stood and held out both hands to help them up. “Be gentle with yourself. Lean on me if you wish.”

Piper: “Blue!” She got to her knees next to them. Her hands hovered over Sole, unsure of what to do.

Sole rubbed the back of their neck. “Sorry. I just need to rest a minute, I’ll be fine.”

“Damn it Blue, you have to be more careful.” Piper sat back on her heels. “You could’ve really been hurt.”

Sole noticed her flustered expression. “But it was cool, right?”“Yes, it was very cool, and I want you to show me how to do that, but don’t hurt yourself again!” She frowned, though a smile was clearly trying to make itself known.

Sole cleared their throat. “So, uh, does this mean I’m…falling for you?”Piper whipped her hat off and smacked it against Sole’s arm. “Blue!”
