i love the pitt but i won't lie there is not a single day in which i wake up and come to this website and think "hm...i'm totally going to see people who can think like adults here."

The thing is I actually DO think people are way too focused on Al-Hashimi’s pro-AI stance as a reason to dislike her as a character, but it pisses me off to no end that nearly every comment I see to that effect is like, “everyone is too focused on the AI thing, which is obviously the ONLY flaw in an otherwise PERFECT character and perfect doctor who is infinitely superior to Robby in every conceivable way” and not, “everyone is too focused on the AI thing to the point that they’re completely ignoring all the other ways that Al-Hashimi—while very much a compelling and enjoyable character—actually kind of sucks a little bit (and her actually kind of sucking a little bit is part of what makes her such a compelling and enjoyable character), most notably the fact that the ENTIRE PREMISE for her character is that she’s a TEMP who showed up to work at the hospital BEFORE THE START OF HER CONTRACT as interim chief of emergency medicine, and instead of taking the extra day as an opportunity to shadow the guy she’s supposed to be a temp for (a guy who is SUPPOSED to be returning after his three-month sabbatical to resume the duties of chief of emergency medicine, so it actually IS still kind of HIS ER), get to know her new coworkers, and familiarize herself with where things are in the hospital and how the PTMC staff like to do things, she IMMEDIATELY starts calling the shots and implementing changes in a workplace she has ZERO experience or familiarity with, and then wonders why the CURRENT CHIEF OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE—who, by the way, is STILL ON THE JOB in that role for one more day—doesn’t automatically warm to her and treat her as his equal”

It is interesting that Al-Hashimi has a seizure in the first episode and continues to practice, hands on, all day.

Even after she calls her neurologist because she's clearly concerned, suggesting an exacerbation, she continues to step in to life-and-death critical procedures. That is fucking insane.

This ...hubris works well with some of the things established about her; she takes a job she doesn't have the skill or experience to do, she's there to do a fucking admin overhaul which is insane in the context of interim chief seat warming, seemingly takes Gloria's presumed word as gospel, and she marches in to this extremely unfamiliar environment unlike anything in which she's worked recently, and she has immediately starts enforcing changes despite never having even met Robby or worked a shift there. She runs a sim code on shift while the waiting room is overflowing instead of doing that shit in sim lab time. Al-Hashimi says she wants to shadow Robby but refuses to do it. Her comments about how she gets walk-in traumas at the VA ED when defending herself to Robby is insane. She is not Robby's equal, not in the ED of a Level 1 Trauma Centre; her resentment about feeling like she's being treated like a resident was fucking ridiculous. She's got her blind spots about which she digs in her heels, just as all the characters do.

She's clearly a skilled clinician, but in this environment desperately needs to find her footing to work effectively. She's not going to have the opportunity to do that, seizures or not, if she's there to do an admin overhaul while taking over Robby's other responsibilities.

She's willing to make sassy comments about never being sued and wanting to keep it that way to someone who is actually in their element while continuing to practice while she's been having seizures all day. That is fucking insane! That is interesting to me!

The way Al-Hashimi draws lines around what she considers to be safe and reasonable make for a really interesting character.

The question of whether she can do the job is bigger than just her seizures and her continuing to practice impaired.

As far as the story goes, I hope it won't be a rug sweep 'explanation' for all of her strange behaviour and weird attitudes despite how broadly challenging a disability it would be.

I've been generally hesitant to comment on her absence episodes all season because the writers were clearly intending for it to be a Big Thing feat. A Big Reveal and have been intentional in how little they reveal about it as the season has unfolded and I'm not all that interested in speculating about that specifically (my suspicions about potentially being injured doing MSF were wrong), especially when there's been a lot to discuss around her anyway.

How it all ties together in the final episode is going to be interesting.

Am I the only one who regularly forgets that Robby has(had? did they lowkey break up?)a girlfriend this season

Robby calling out Eileen on how she was talking to Vic will aways be iconic to me. Scene of the show. His faith and belief and trust in her and her skills as a doctor are so prominent, it's so lovely to see especially since neither of her parents give her the support she needs. Which is a little ironic(and very intentional, thank you Noah)considering they have the opposite approaches to their relationship with her but neither manages to connect. Anyways.

It's more than just a faith, it's a knowledge. Robby has been running this ER for fucking ever, and working in hospitals longer. He knows talent when he sees it, and it was so evident last episode the way he pushed her into taking that procedure. He knew she was capable, and she proved him right. Also loved his comment about how he better not come back to find her in dermatology. He so clearly sees her gift and also knows that her mother is refusing to act like one.

I think the number one problem with the lack of thinking in the Pitt fandom is that a lot of people see all the found family dynamics and take it like it just another sitcom or something, when in reality it is a show about a workplace. This is a job. Do I think it was morally correct for Cassie(the loml)to go out and help Kiki? Yes. Was it okay not to tell one of her attendings? No. Do I think there are many changes that could be made to the ER, and emergency departments everywhere to make it safer for the workers and better for the patients? Yes. Am I strongly annoyed with how Baran walked in on her first fucking day as a temporary attending and tried to make those changes without first talking to her co-worker who is also the present chief? Also yes.

In the first season Santos started off her relationship with Langdon by being insubordinate(not presenting her case and starting treatment without the oversight of a senior resident or attending)and while sure, she made the right call, that doesn't matter. She has a job, and part of that job is to follow the correct rules and proceedings to make sure she doesn't make the wrong call and end up causing undue harm. Was his outburst unnecessary? Of course, but if you've ever been a mentor at a job that requires order and clear communication then it's easy to understand where his annoyance with her came from. He could have handled it way fucking better, but that's besides the point. He made a very simple comment to her to begin with: always present first and no, it is not okay that you ignored that. I fully believe that if she had accepted his words, moved on and followed protocol, there wouldn't have been such a problem.

To continue with the first season, Robby had every right to tell Samira she needed to be faster with patients. She was an R3, and that comes with responsibilities. Making connections with people you're treating is great, but not at the expense of other peoples health. The ER runs on speed and quick thinking, it does not have room for lulls in treatment.

There's a lot more examples of times when a senior has rightfully told someone below their rank(Cassie with Whitaker and the PCOS patient for one)how to act differently in a situation or to generally get it together. That's how hospitals work. That's how jobs work, and regardless of this being a character driven show, it is about those characters being in a workplace, in which they have to act accordingly.

seeing this fandom's reaction to a mental health crisis really brings to light that no matter how supposedly nuanced and open minded and supportive people claim to be, they still look down on others when they're suffering.

i'm sure someone is going to try to argue with me about this, and i cannot possibly stress enough that being depressed and suicidal isn't just crawling in bed and waiting to die. it's ugly and it makes you do horrible things to people that you care about (which in turn makes you feel even worse about yourself) and if i see one more person acting like robby is an irredeemable asshole for that, i'm going to shove the power of fucking human empathy and common sense down their throat.

Cassie Mckay is a character of all time.

proper representation of a recovered addict, a great mom, a smart doctor who regularly displays not just her kindness but emotional intelligence when it comes to dealing with patients. funny. beautiful. good in crisis. strong mentor. doesn't judge her patients but still looks out for them. literally the only adult on this show. i love her so bad
