No offense but I've talked to actual professional clowns and many are GENUINELY upset by the whole dehumanization thing... One guy ik even got accused of being a "half breed" because he's "smart enough to talk"

A Note on A Rare Species of Clown

I believe that most of you dear gentle people are aware of clowns and their general variants, such as mimes, party clowns and juggalos, but I come to you today with a note on a rare and most wonderous species.

BEHOLD! INFLATUS GIGANTUS! Otherwise known as giant inflatable clowns. The one pictured here is posing in the classic “war stance” to ward away enemies and protect young.

Here, another member of the species waits patiently for its prey. Inflatus Gigantus is an ambus hunter, when hungry it forms bouncy-house like appendages, using it to tempt prey before swallowing it alive.

However, Inflatus Gigantus, or as they are sometimes known as bouncy house clowns, are rather patient with human children, often seeing them as another sort of clown young and allowing them to play within it’s carnivorous bouncy interior without harm. This has led to a trend of hiring out these peaceful giants as playthings during human birthday parties.

However, this exploitation of clown labor must come to an end! Bouncy house clowns are fragile and often damaged by unruly human children, most of whom are then put down by their cruel and exploitative human owners!

Hopefully someday we can learn to coexist with these gentle giants. Until that day, do warn the humans in your life and refuse to barter with businesses profiteering off forced clown labor!

Hey there! I've been musing through Clown Tumblr a bit recently, but you're the first person I've seen talk about breakfast clowns! How do these clowns differ from other clown varieties?

Brekkies are an extremely rare and endangered clown species. They were extremely popular in the 50's and 60's, especially the United States, and the few remaining ones can be found in highly specialized sanctuaries. Most people nowadays have never seen a brekkie, which is a shame because their performances are absolutely beautiful!

They're most notable for their strong theming -- their body will be shaped like a specific food, typically their favorite food, with large eyes and thin black limbs. Some smaller troupes will avoid repeated themes, but in their hayday there were troupes of dozens brekkies that subdivided themselves into themes! Although I'm too young to have seen one, my dad has talked a bit about seeing a full brekkie parade when he was a kid!

Their endangered status was mostly due to their treatment back in the day -- they mostly fed on kitchen scraps from the restaurant or diner they lived in, and theyre almost all totally inbred since troupes are incredibly competitive.

Nowadays, they're mostly known as fun trivia for clown owners, and sanctuaries dedicated to restoring their population are few and far between. I'm still hopeful they'll make a return though, I'd love to see breakfast clowns re-enter the breeding pool some day!

Sorry for the late reply! Miniature porcelains require a lot of care. Make sure they have plenty of soft bedding, and using babyproofing on table corners and hard furniture is also very helpful, especially while they get used to the space. Have pudding or Jell-O on hand in case of emergency (I have a post about what to do if your porcelain chips) and keep their diet high in sugar- a brittle exoskeleton is not only dangerous to the clown, but also not as pretty and glossy as a healthy one.

Clown breeders like myself are a group of folks who breed domestic clowns! They're loving and friendly pets and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors! Tumblr has a lovely community of clown owners and breeders where new owners can learn about different breeds, how to take care of their clowns, and so on. Its a fun community and we'd love to have you!

ooc: It's a bit like SCP with a community of folks building off of each other. Some people have irl clown dolls while others make OCs, but at the end of the day its all for fun!

Choosing a clown as a companion is a most important decision! The most important thing is to chose a clown that fits into your lifestyle.

Do you live in the country with a large property? Do you perhaps keep chickens or horses? Are you athletic or go horseback riding? Then perhaps a rodeo clown would be the best for you.

Do you live in an apartment with limited space? Are you a homebody with enough time to give an indoor clown the attention it needs? Then consider a porcelain or a teacup juggler.

Do you have to travel often for work? Perhaps on trains? Bozos love traveling!

Are you a film major? Just shut up and take your mime.

Consider your current life and find a friend that will fit in with the space, time and lifestyle that you have.

Hey there have been a number of wild horror clowns around my area and I’m wondering what to do. I work at a smaller shelter + clinic that cares for clowns and I’m wondering if it’s still safe to let them outside.

Thanks for the question! Wild clowns can be highly unpredictable, and I always consider it best to stay on the side of caution. Although horror clowns get a bad reputation, they are not necessarily more dangerous than other clowns! Their scares are not typically intended to hurt the audience, but again, wild clowns are unpredictable.

I suggest keeping the clowns in your care in an enclosed, fenced-off space with heavy supervision. Outdoor time is good for them, but keeping a barrier between them and the unknown clowns may deter them or allow you to bring the clowns inside if you feel like the clowns or faculty are threatened by the wild clowns.

Life Update

Hey gang! I've had the incredible privilege to potentially start volunteering at my local clown sanctuary, specifically working a small group of breakfast clowns!

There has been some interest in the coulrology community about crossbreeding breakfast clowns with small babydolls in order to help restore the population. Since my aunt is considered a local expert on babydolls (both as a small family breeder and biologist), she was contacted by the sanctuary to consider the pros and cons of crossbreeding and recommended me to a volunteer position. I'll try to keep you all updated, I'm very excited and will try to post info and pictures of the clowns when I can :)

What a lovely friend! The discolored hair worries me, but the overall muted pattern could just be a result of an inexperienced breeder. Seems like a strange mix of a porcelain and a tramp or railway? I'm not super experienced with those breeds, so I would recommend speaking to a professional or your local rescue to learn more about his care. As to his porcelain side, I have gone over what to do if he breaks in another post, but overall remember to feed him sugar cubes regularly to keep his exoskeleton thick, shiny and healthy.

Again, I'm not an expert, so if you have access to a second opinion I would highly recommend it! I hope you and your new clown have a long and happy friendship!

Hello! You seem very knowledgeable about clowns, so I decided to ask for some help identifying one my friend and I met at a local bookstore. Neither of us have much experience with clowns, as we do not have any ourselves and do not know many people with them. The clown was about 10 inches tall, with a white face and a singular blue teardrop next to one of their eyes. They had no other markings, and their eyes were large and black. They had a pink bodysuit and hat with ivory lace ruffles. Thanks!

Its hard to determine a clown's breed based only on a written description, but I'll do my best! Please take this with a grain of salt, and if you want a more solid answer politely ask the clown's owner :)

Unless this clown is malnourished, they seem to be a saccarine babydoll or porcelain (depending on whether or not it had the glossy porcelain exoskeleton) possibly mixed with a sad clown, explaining the tear. Since this combination would take extensive breeding, I'm assuming its a porcelain. Based on breed alone, I'd assume this clown is very delicate in terms of both health and demeanor. Please don't approach or interact with this clown without the owner's permission!

Although saccharine porcelains are very beautiful, they require a lot of care- porcelains are notoriously high maintenance and it can be difficult to read a clown's health if they've been bred to show pastel colors. I would not recommend this breed for folks who are not experienced with clowns or may struggle to support it's health needs. Ideally, the owner would have experience with both saccharine and porcelain clowns.

Again, I am a third party and have not personally encountered the clown in question. I'm not an expert, these are just what I think are likely based on your description. Thanks for asking! general rule of thumb

A clown's tent or enclosure diameter should be at least 5 times their height! Any smaller can be claustrophobic, especially for high energy clowns or high-performing clowns.

If you have multiple clowns, definitely scale upwards starting at the largest clown, and consider additional smaller tents for the individual clowns' privacy! My 4 babydolls share a tent with a 28 ft diameter, which branches off into 4 smaller tents for them to keep their toys and things. Wink is also part scare clown, so her tent is low-light and she goes there throughout the day to recharge. Although they sleep dogpile-style in the clown car, it gives them a sense of comfort and tells the others when they're done playing for the day.

If you have a large troupe and can't afford/don't have the space for every clown to have their own tent, I would provide one for any clowns with specific needs (as I mentioned earlier, Wink's low-light tent) as well as contra-augustes, which are rather independent and may find comfort in the private space.

Every clown is different, so please take your clown's personality and needs into consideration when doing tent remodeling! Stay safe and happy clowning!

Something I’ve learned with Porcelain Clowns

So, I own four very sweet porcelain clowns. They’re apart of a litter of nine that me and my friend adopted and split between us (Minus two who got adopted by different people) Ive done a lot of research about the breed since I started to help raise them.

Porcelain Clowns are a breed of clowns, however there are many sub breeds that breeders are debating weather or not they’re actually their own breed anymore. Much like the name Teacup (Or Miniature) when referring to clowns, Porcelain is often used as a descriptor and not an actual breed. However the confusing thing is that you can have a ‘Purebred Porcelain.’ There are distinct features that Purebreds have. Porcelains are just so commonly mixed with other clowns that most ones you find are mixed. All of my clowns are mixes and we have only one purebred in the litter (A darling little one name Arabella in my friend Robin’s troupe)

This leads me to belive our lot actually come from one or two different litters which does make a lot of sense. Perhaps a thrift store dumping them out, idk. That’s not the point of this though.

Anyways, I just find this fascinating! Let me know what you think about this, cus I think it’s really cool!

Porcelain breeding is one of the most unregulated and unsafe areas of clown breeding. Irresposible breeders often expose these seeethearts to high-energy clowns that accidentally hurt them, especially when they have poor nutrition. There are much safer ways to breed porcelains, but it's overall high risk, high reward. Just because there are so many mixed porcelains out there doesn't mean they're good for beginner breeders!
