This week’s chapter is looking pretty good
THIS MAKE ME SAD WTF
We knew that Shouto was separated from his siblings for a long while now, but to this extent? That sound you just heard was my heart breaking.
Seriously, though, as an older sibling, I would be so fuvking mad if this happen between me and my lil gremlin. If Natsuo feels like Endeavour is nothing but a stranger, then from this, perhaps his bond with Shouto is probably not far from that - they’re closer, much more civil, and sibling-like, almost, only because Shouto is his innocent little brother that he actually cared enough for to “reconnect” after all that time. From this point, I pretty much understand why Natsuo would never, ever forgive his father again (especially at this point). Imagine having a little brother that was whisked away from you as a toddler and pretty much disappeared (except that you sometime can hear him crying) and now you suppose to just forget it? Nah.
Just to be clear, I’m all for Endeavour’s redemption. In this post, I’m just venting and be relate to Natsuo (lol). Endeavour is trying, but no one is obligated to forgive him (and as of this moment, he has yet done anything in attempts to redeem himself, except for showing that he would like to.) At this point, I’m just gonna indulge myself with Natsuo’s salt lmao. I wonder how this quality™ juicy family drama saga will continue cuz I’m living for it. At least I’m kind of proud of how Endeavour reacted to his outburst - from what we knew, it’s safe to assume that that was out of the ordinary and what Endeavour expected his children to act, in exclusion of his new character developments - it’s not easy to know what to say in those instances, but his move was great. I convinced that he will turn out for the better. Much better.
Still, someone fill me in with what Shouto’s expression means, please. I’m not the best with facial expression, but from what I know from personal experiences, automatically you turn “face-stoned” whenever your family members are shouting at each other’s face and your name is mentioned. Pretty much your head is blank at that point and you just listens to what is being said and later all the feelings hit. (haha :,) )
Man, am I loving this arc.
I really like how we see Enji’s face without the flames this chapter. Prior to this he would wear them as a way to intimidate people and showcase his power but now he’s approaching his family without them. He’s going to them as an equal and after the multiple flashbacks we’ve seen him have, it seems he’s taking his first step at trying to reconcile with them by letting go of his pride.
All I could think of was this meme when I saw this panel from the new bnha chapter
my terribly drawn contribution to this fandom
Unpopular opinion time!
I LOVED this chapter of My Hero. I still stand that I don’t want Endeavor to die, and this chapter fully cements what I said about the desperate need this world is in for someone strong enough to fight.
I said last week too that despite his personal life, there is indeed a reason he was #2, you don’t rise to a level right under All Might for nothing. There’s no one right now who could defeat this Noumu, regardless of how we as an audience feel, in the current STORY this world needs his STRENGTH. All Might is GONE, he’s done for, and the only other person on the scene is Hawks and he’s got speed but not power. So unless they just plan to let it rampage and murder innocent people, they need Endeavor. That’s just the harsh reality right now, no matter how anyone feels or thinks about him.
I’m all for him changing, better to be a person trying to change than stay a piece of garbage, and his family can stay angry at him. But sorry, for the direction of what’s happening right now, he’s actually pretty important. Otherwise this series is going to go in a very dark place, even moreso than it is right now. Without some kind of pillar for the people to see protect them from crazy ridiculous enemies like this, the world’s just gonna fall apart.
Now what happens next is going to be something. But god damn was I just happy to see my kids, happy to see Tokoyami! Even Bakugou came out with everyone to see what was going on.
Endeavor’s Redemption.
So, I’ve been noticing a common theme with the manga readers about Endeavor’s redemption arc. Typically they all follow the lines of either: Endeavor wont actually change, or that they don’t care what Endeavor says, no matter what he’s still a shitty person.
And that’s all fine and well, but I guess my only problem with this line of thinking is that what if he does actually change?
What if Endeavor truly tries to get better, he comes clean with his children, apologizes to Shouto and Rei, and earnestly moves toward a better future with his family? To be honest I get that there are going to be people who don’t like Endeavor for what he did and will always see him as a shit character with shit intentions, and that’s fine. You can feel however the fuck you like about Endeavor. I mean seriously, he did some really nasty shit. But at the end of the day, if Endeavor truly does try to get better and does everything a normal human trying to change should ( acknowledging, apologizing, and seeking help), then shouldn’t we at least somewhat respect him??
Crazy idea, but its just my train of thought here. Sorry
Endeavor’s Redemption
So I have some thoughts I want to throw out about the whole Endeavor arc going on. Ima start and say I very much dislike Enji. He’s my least fav ok. However I’ve seen SO MANY really poorly done “redemption” arcs, especially in the shonen genre, and I really respect and admire the way Horikoshi has been handling this so far. For a character who’s main ability is Big Punch On Fire™ this, so far has been handled very delicately, very emotionally, very sensitively to the feelings of his family. Like we are, and have been eased into it, its not just LOOK HE DID ONE (1) GOOD THING HES A GOOD PERSON NOW SEE
I really think Horikoshi is trying to emphasize to us that he is not a one dimensional character at all. And so he is using the Todoroki family, and especially Rei who has known him the longest, as the way to talk to us readers and tell us he’s not just a powerhouse angry man. And by using their account, and reminding us of how he hurt them, we as readers are able to decide for ourselves if we think he should be given that chance. I don’t think we will ever be forced to accept Endeavor as a fully good person, however we DO have to look at all the facts and all perspectives of his story. Which is not a thing we really have been provided yet, we’ve only seen 1 side of it, what Shouto knows.
We don’t know what the relationship between Enji and Rei was before they had any kids. And maybe there was a certain something she admired him before he went WAY overboard and became shortsighted in his goals. I think its important to note too that from an outside perspective, people do see that passion. He may not be particularly charming in person, but we’ve seen that he inspires strength and determination in others. We see it in that random fanboy kid. In Hawks. And in Inasa. But he’s still so closed off and volatile, which is what turned Inasa away initially. But he HAS changed, and has begun to grow and soften, which is why Inasa was able to accept him and try to reevaluate him. And sure, he’s an outside perspective so it was easier. So if Enji DOES want to mend those other relationships, he really has to prove in every way that he wants tomake a change for the better.
Enji had his own dreams, he had his own version of what success means. And along the way, (and now literally) he was blinded by his lust for power. The story is showing us that with every feeling and emotion, even if they are good in the first place, if you take it too far it can harm those around you and yourself. He’s passionate, so much that he forced other people into his cause to use as personal stepping stones. He’s strong, so strong that he strikes fear in people, including those he should be protecting. He looks toward the future and he’s stubborn, but so much that he burns every bridge around him and doesn’t look around him and see how it affects others. He wont even listen to those around him or challenge toxic behavior. And only now is he maybe looking back and seeing all the damage he has done. Now that he’s on top, he finally can stop facing forward and can look around at the destruction around him that he caused to get there. Its very much like Bakugou’s character arc, but to an extreme. Someone who never learned better and was free to do as he pleased well into adulthood to the point he has done permanent damage.
He can’t undo the sins of his past. Those are permanent and will affect his family forever. And the Todoroki family bring that up and remind us of that. His actions are not being swept under the rug or overlooked. However he can do better in the future. And thats maybe what the Todoroki’s, and Rei, are counting on him to do now. Only now that he’s shows signs of redemption. This arc and his redemption are needed, because the alternatives are stagnation which helps nobody, and death which would cause massive upheaval and chaos. Because the world cannot go on without him as is. We saw it erupt into chaos when he was down for like 1 minute. So he needs to step up his game. Its now or never for Endeavor.
Chapter 189
Holy crap, what a chapter. Horikoshi has been killing it lately, but this one was utterly phenomenal.
Endeavor is a tough bastard. Dude was punched through a building, then dragged through it, got sliced across the lips and eyeball, and then was thrown through even more buildings and he’s somehow still trying to fight. All For One was right, wounded heroes are indeed frightening animals.
However, I want to highlight the civilian who interrupted the newscaster. What he said was incredible. “Quit despairing over the traces of a symbol that’s no longer there and look at the man who’s giving his all for our sake right now!”
He’s not just saying that because he’s a fan of Endeavor, he’s completely right. All Might’s time is over. It’s been over for over three months in this story at this point, but everything that’s happened has been a direct result of All Might’s retirement. Shishikura highlighted this during the Provisional License Exam Arc. People had been incredibly uneasy following All Might’s retirement, so the goal of the exam was to make sure that only the absolute cream of the crop managed to pass, and even then those who made it past the first round would be allowed to retake the exam in a few months after some remedial training. Because they wanted more talented heroes-in-training to have legal permission to act in times of crisis.
The police resolve to change their policies to become more proactive following the fight with AFO, because they recognize that society is at a tipping point. They highlight how the folly in putting all of the people’s hopes on one man’s shoulders and make the decision to do more than simply receive the criminals that heroes arrest.
Villains began rising with far more fervor than before. The reservoir dogs are small time, but we’re given a front row seat to one of their member’s shock and elation that he actually succeeded in committing a crime. The Yakuza, who were almost dead and buried, came out of nowhere with a scheme that could have flipped the entire world’s paradigm upside-down with their quirk erasing bullets. A guy like Gentle actually tried to sneak into UA just for views.
People are so uneasy that their children can see just how unsure and worried their parents are, to the point where they become convinced that the current generations aren’t up to snuff.
The news reporter literally points out how the current battle is reminiscent of Kamino when All Might fought All For One, before going on about how the terror currently enveloping the people of Kyushu is what happens when there isn’t a symbol. Thousands upon thousands of people are watching this battle, already panicking at seeing the current number 1 hero laid out, and the reporter’s words are only adding fuel to the fire. Had Endeavor not kept fighting, there could very well have been anarchy in the streets.
This has been the state of BNHA since chapter 95. They’ve been so hung-up on All Might, that they’ve forgotten how to survive without him. As much as they love All Might, he can’t protect them anymore, so they should be doing everything to encourage the heroes and police who are still capable of protecting them. They need to believe the people who are giving it their all right now instead of despairing over what they’ve lost when something goes wrong. They need to be willing to believe that the future can still be bright even if All Might isn’t there.
Chapter 189 rant
I saw some dumbass post that said something like “I saw chapter 189 and there went my faith in Horikoshi’s writing” and I just…
Where on earth was Endeavor forgiven for anything? Fuyumi never even remotely says anything along those lines. She says “He’s the worst at giving up.” You realize that’s not forgiveness? Like, at all? She’s pointing out a trait of her father’s, nothing more.
For real, y’all legitimately live in an alternate world where any action Endeavor takes that is met with something other than scorn and disgust equates to him being forgiven or redeemed. It’s so dumb. Grow up.
Horikoshi is not saying Endeavor is a good person; he knows Endeavor is not a good person, we know Endeavor is not a good person. We’re all well aware of the horrible shit he’s done to his family. None of that is being erased or forgotten. The fact is, that Endeavor like all abusers, is a human being. People who do bad things are not all inhuman monsters or socio/psychopaths. Humans are not black and white cutouts with certain emotions and a set reality, they’re complex, flawed creatures. They can change and evolve. It doesn’t erase what they’ve done before, but it happens. That’s just life.
Endeavor was not born an abusive asshole, and the point of this arc is to show that he doesn’t have to STAY as an abusive asshole. Fuyumi understanding that he’s not going to simply give up is not in any way, not REMOTELY, by damn stretch of the words, declaration of forgiveness AT. ALL. It’s showing she understands a significant fact about her father because she’s been around him her whole life, whereas Natsuo’s been at college and Shouto’s been at school.
Why Endeavor Shouldn’t Be Told to “Die”
Oh boy, did that get your attention? Well it should.
So let me give you all some context before I begin. Since I’m traveling right now, I haven’t been super much keeping up with the spoilers or the discussions behind it so I’ve been kinda chilling until my friend mentioned to me how she was upset by this past chapter. Naturally, my curious little butt wanted to know what people were saying and I’m frankly…a bit upset at some of the reactions for this past chapter. Well maybe saying upset is a bit of an understatement.
To briefly recap, this past chapter Endeavor was seen unconscious and/or dying with a wound over his left eye, which is an homage to the burn Shouto has
Of course, since it was broadcasted on live TV, everyone saw it, including his family
(Can I just interrupt and say that Enji and Rei created such a beautiful boi? Say what you want but they got those good genes 👌🏻)
Either way, this moment had immense shock value and created more of a conflicting feeling within Shouto and his family, which ties into the Todoroki family “redemption” arc. And whether or not this was an appropriate tactic to take, its dependent on the future events that Horikoshi wants to take.
Of course, some people reacted in a way that created discussions and that’s not what I’m referring to. What I’m referring to are the people who like to say “HE DESERVED” and “KILL HIM BITCH” and “KARMAS A BITCH HUH, ENDEAVOR” and “DONT LET US FEEL BAD FOR HIM HORIKOSHI, FUCKING KILL HIM” and if you think for one second I’m exaggerating with this, then either you’re doing it or you haven’t seen the chats and tags that show this animalistic view point. For the sake of privacy, I won’t show screenshots but you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when you see it.
Frankly, if you’re one of those people, then maybe you shouldn’t be reading this manga because it’s clear you’re not understanding the content that Horikoshi is trying to convey.
Now I’m not going to sit here and say that Endeavor is a good person and that you should like him. What he did to his family was awful and caused a lot of issues with Shouto that required Izuku to break that mold during their fight
And one thing to consider is the function that Endeavor’s character type had in the beginning or at least when he was introduced. When we view the heroes in the beginning, we are shown that they not only want to help others, but they have high morals. They are seen to be just and righteous and basically what the epitome of a hero should be
But the thing is, with Endeavor, Horikoshi designed him specifically not to fit that mold of the typical hero we see. We see that he’s ambitious, he views the hero spot as a ranking, he is willing to undergo quirk compatibility marriage for the hope that he will create a perfect suitor, and then proceeds to undergo harsh training for his son when his quirk is revealed. Endeavor shows that heroes aren’t always these morally just people and that there are some that are glorified while doing crappy things
Now, for this arc that’s been happening, Horikoshi has been breaking the mold and giving Endeavor the chance for redemption. For the first time, he told his son that he was proud of him
And he gave flowers to his wife that not only were her favorites but showed that he has come to visit her within the time that he has placed her there
Of course, by no means do these actions mean that he should be forgiven, that he should be glorified, that it automatically excuses everything he’s done in the past. Because by no means do these automatically mean that he’s suddenly this amazing person. He still has his faults but this is a part of the redemption that Horikoshi is putting him through. He’s learning that what he’s done is wrong and that he heavily affected his family in such a negative way and those little bits are the first steps towards his own personal redemption.
So exactly why is there this reaction of “DIE BITCH” to a character that is undergoing through an arc that is not only affecting him but his own family? Why the hell is there this reaction? Like what possible reason is there for this shallow aggression and saying that he deserves to die?
I mean, y’all are acting like he shot Shouto ten fucking times and murdered the rest of his family and even worse things than a criminal here in America. Like y’all are acting as if he’s beyond hope and beyond redemption and beyond even growing as a god damn character.
And it’s hilarious too because most of y’all condemn him like the devil but then turn around and say how Katsuki is such a son, such a good boy, oh he’s the absolute best, oh him yelling is just s O preCIOUS.
Listen, I love Katsuki with all the fibers of my being. He’s a complex character and seeing him grow has been an absolute blessing and I genuinely love him so much. However, he’s done some shit to that also gets into the realm of being abusive.
Like did you all suddenly forget how he got his friends to beat Midoriya in the beginning??
Did y’all forget that he told Midoriya to jump off the school building?
Did y’all forget how terrified Midoriya was in the beginning whenever he just merely saw Katsuki???
And did y’all also forget the attitude he had towards Izuku during their first fight?
And their second fight??
Oh I’m certain y’all did.
However, throughout the manga, Katsuki was given the chance to redeem himself and to learn that his own attitudes have consequences and have hurt others in his past. Despite the bad things he’s done in his past towards Midoriya, he’s been given the chance to redeem himself and show those beautiful qualities he has been sharing
So the biggest question I have is: why is a character like Katsuki allowed and is glorified having a redemption arc but Endeavor isn’t? Why does Katsuki get a chance to change but with Endeavor, he’s told to die and that he’s beyond ever changing nor should he be allowed to?
The age difference isn’t a good argument because since he was a little kid, Katsuki has had this attitude towards Izuku and is only slightly changing due to the fact he was encouraged to act that way. The motives behind their abuse aren’t good because there’s no good reason why you would abuse your family or tell a young boy to kill himself. Maturity isn’t a factor because Katsuki told Izuku that when he was at a competent age and understood the complications of what he said.
So exactly why does Katsuki get an open pass, a pass that allows him to redeem himself for what he’s done in the past but Endeavor gets people saying that they hope he dies and to not be given a chance in the manga to redeem himself? Why does Katsuki allow for people to discuss his development and is known to be discussed as complex but god forbid Endeavor is seen as a character that is more than just an evil person?
Of course, I’m not asking these questions to tell everyone to start hating on Katsuki and start loving on Endeavor. Absolutely not. Despite me writing all of this, I still am not the biggest fan of Endeavor and view him to be a meme and I don’t expect people to start bowing down to him. That’s not what I’m pointing out.
What I’m pointing out is the hypocrisy of people who bow down to Katsuki and praise him like there’s no tomorrow but shun and belittle Endeavor and basically reduce him to a one dimensional character that has no way of turning into someone more complex. I’m calling out this culture in this fandom that allows for certain characters to be on a pedestal and some other to be thrown into the dirt despite similarities. Whether you like it or not, both of these two abused people in a way that affected someone negatively. Yet, one of them gets to be in this spotlight and glorified both in and out of manga but the other has people chanting for his death and saying that he only deserves to die and that what he’s doing to change isn’t good.
Again, feel free to not like Katsuki or Endeavor or both really. Opinions matter and it’s always good to discuss. However, I want to call out those who have a one dimensional view of Endeavor and refuse to analyze and discuss the growth of his character as the manga progresses. Just as Katsuki deserves to be discussed and not thrown to the ground, Endeavor’s character should ignite in depth conversations and I’m kinda grossed that people have been jumping on this bandwagon of simplicity and refuse to look at him in a different mold despite doing that for other characters. Like I’m actually really disappointed in the reactions of people in this past chapter and I really want to question each of you why have a reaction like that to Endeavor but not to others who have done bad things in the manga? What really makes them so different?
TLDR: In this new chapter, instead of discussing the complexity of the situation, you find people chanting death threats towards Endeavor and hoping that he dies like a little bitch without the chance of redemption.
A LITTLE LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK, HOMESLICE?

Random My Hero Academia Thoughts
-All Might’s face is literally on everything and since this is set in Japan where they’re trying to encourage younger people to have sex with familiar characters on condoms? Then does that mean that there’s All Might condoms? And if so, does Izuku have any just because All Might’s face is on it?
-So heroing doesn’t pay the bills for some heroes resulting in them getting side jobs. I’m guessing Midnight opened her own Midnight themed lingerie line. It’s very popular.
-Mina’s power is pretty fucking scary so I can only imagine that it was like when she first found out she could throw acid.
-Is Mina a fan of the Alien movies?
-Okay but in this world, Present Mic and Black Canary are definitely related. There’s no way they cannot be.
-There is a hero made of solid rock. I’m going to go ahead and assume he probably can’t have kids.
-Todoroki hating his dad so much he became a huge All Might fan when he was little. Just saying him and Izuku bonding over their love of All Might would be awesome.
-Tokoyami’s baby pictures must be the cutest thing ever because baby birds are freaking adorable. We need to see the pictures.
-Ochako’s family probably had to use a child leash with her to keep her from floating away when she was younger.
-Where the hell is Izuku’s dad? They mention like a business trip or something but when I look between Izuku and Inko I honestly think that, much like a snail, she asexually reproduced.
-Are all doctors in this world assholes? Like, saying that so bluntly to a child is really not cool.
-HOW THE FUCK DID TOHRU’S PARENTS TAKE CARE OF HER AS A BABY IF SHE’S INVISIBLE?!
-Shigaraki called the hand on his face father so I’m just theorizing that those hands are cut off from his dead family members.
-Maybe even Nana’s hands are there and one day All Might will recognize them because of a scar or something.
-Does Iida need a driver’s license for his quirk?
These scrapped Pokemon designs were amazing
After 20 years, fans have finally discovered an early build that came from a Nintendo Space World promo from November of 1997, revealing a bunch of scrapped concept Pokemon and ideas.
First off, there were a TON of baby evolutions for Pokemon we all know and love.
Baby Meowth!
scrapped Mime Jr!
Baby Grimer!
On top of those, we got ideas for Pokemon that never saw the light of day.
Snow wolf pokemon!
Cursed pandas!
Female only Luna black cats!
and apparently the Shellder on Slowbro and Slowking was going to have its own slot as a standalone Pokemon?
AND SCRAPPED STARTERS.
but have ya’ll seen some of the original designs?
SOMEBODY HELP THESE BABIES
Porygon2′s original design was apparently a reference to Pon De Lion, the mascot of Mister Donut. Also cool to see the Hoppip line had a more feline-influenced design in the past.
They really kept Leafeon hidden and tucked away for two generations!
But the best part is:
EMO LEGENDARY BEASTS.
