Barely November

“I’m pretty sure my family is all dead, although I hadn’t celebrated any sort of holiday with them in years.” Alex spoke with a matter of fact tone and shrugged his shoulders. The fact didn’t bother him in the slightest. “It’s just never been my thing.”
Jordan gave a nod, sensing that Alex wasn’t as sad as the average person would be over the loss of his family. A peek into his head would tell him if that was true, but he didn’t feel the need to pry at the moment. “I guess that means you’re gonna be spending Christmas with me and mine then, Alex.” Jordan beamed, clapping a hand on the Second Gen’s shoulder.

“Good for you.” Alex shrugged. The holidays were always more of going through the motions with his family. There was never anything special with Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years other than large impersonal parties. “I’ll stick with just finding it all annoying.”
“Nah, man. We can’t have that. New world, new times, new traditions. Come on! You don’t have people you want to celebrate with? Friends or family that you’re thankful for? What about the fact that you’re not on the losing side of this mayhem, huh? That’s got to be something.” Jordan was a proactive member of holiday cheer, due in large part to how much it annoyed his sister. That didn’t mean he wanted to see glum faces on the people he was meant to work with and help. The holidays always put him in a rather giving mood.

“I know that things are finally starting to calm down and get somewhat normal, but does that really mean we need Christmas wreaths out already?”

“Where’s your holiday spirit, Alex?” Jordan grinned, breath fogging in front of him already. “At least there will be no Black Friday shopping, right? Besides, the wreaths have many meanings, not just Christmas or Advent. To some they represent victory, to others, strength. These are new times, try and apply new meaning to old traditions.” He paused in his rant, eyes gleaming. “I fucking love Christmas.”

Damon whistled. “Someone’s grumpy. Wake up on the wrong side of one your humans today, Sin?” He looked down at the people fleeing the bloodshed. “Normally I’d say it’s your sunny disposition, but doesn’t seem the case today.”
“Unlike you, I don’t feel the need to sleep with everyone that passes within fifteen feet of me.” Jordan retorted with a catlike grin. The smile disappeared as quickly as it had come, his thoughts turning somewhat anxiously to Mina for a moment. “So why aren’t you literally painting the town red with that pretty warrior queen of yours?”

“Ask me nicely.” Damon hovered just above Jordan. He was dying to get those shields down from around the Government territory. Standing by and watching the others have fun instead of him was basically torture. Even his niece and nephew could get in on the action while he stewed.
Jordan let loose a string of profanity in Damon’s direction, frustrated as he was bumped to and fro in the steady stream of people fleeing the direction their forces had gone. “If people see you hovering over here, no one’s going to come Anshar. Isn’t there anything you could be slaughtering yet?” He asked, gritting his teeth before launching himself into the air beside Damon. “Why does she keep sticking me with the bullshit assignments?” He griped. Leg work such as this was almost an insult in their clan, though he also knew that Kameera didn’t trust anyone as much as she did him these days.
Betrayal Garden || Mina & Jordan
“Not a problem. I’ve been keeping busy.” Mina didn’t bother turning to face him until she plucked a flower from the nearest bush. Flower in hand she stepped toward Jordan and wrapped her arm in his, leading him down the path whether he wanted to or not.
“I wanted to check in with you. See how things are going on your end of things and with you personally. Are you reopening that restaurant of yours?” She sniffed at the flower before looking up at Jordan, waiting for his response.
Being Shubure, even Jordan hadn’t much patience for the subtle power plays, but he tolerated them from Mina. She was after all, the woman whom Valik had loved and one he was quickly coming to view as a sister of sorts.
“Kameera keeps me busy, as always. Thinking of supplementing a farmers market and other aspects of life for the humans to feel at ease once we take in more refugees. This would all go better if they’d just fall back into their wartime habits of trying to feel useful and normal.” He shrugged, “But little pleases them these days.” He sighed, “Yes, I’ve been thinking of it. I don’t know, call me nostalgic. And what have you been up to, my dear?”

“Report.” He barked, helping a woman to her feet and sending her on her way with a quick push in the right direction. There were multiple Originals along the path they’d created to funnel refugees into their area, but anyone who diverted from said path would likely end up a red smear along one of the buildings. The Second Gen precog was there to focus on making sure that didn’t happen, but he wasn’t fully confident in her yet un-mastered ability. His sister was on the other end of the city, likely making a mess of things with the Atlantean queen at her side, but he doubted that would compare to the carnage the Smith brothers were about to unleash.
Farmer’s Market || Andrea + Jordan
Andrea shrugged, still visibly uncomfortable. “I’m not in the position to judge anyone.” Look at everything she had done for revenge and to stay alive. It was would always be something that she would be ashamed of.
When he quickly changed the subject Andrea was more relieved than she could say. “I’m not sure I’d be the one best fitted to help you. There are others much better at community outreach.” She took a brief moment to think. “Like Ivan or even Natalie knows what people want.” Even as she was talking him out of working with her she was processing what he said. “Oh…” Andrea chuckled. “I’m happy to see you too.” Despite her babbling.
“I value outside viewpoints, if I were to go to the usual suspects, I wouldn’t get the same feedback. I want to know what the people want, not what we think they need.” He shrugged, “Natalie has personal issues on her plate right now, and Ivan has his own projects. I’m not sure either of them are in a flexible state of mind at present.”
Tilting his head at her, he couldn’t help but grin. “I’m glad, though I do feel badly for pulling you away from your work, as well as your sleep. Otherwise, I would certainly call on you more often. You’d probably grow tired of me.”
Alex wanted to say something about the contradiction of immortality and genocide but he decided against it. “I guess the best bet is to just keep doing what we’re doing then.”
Jordan sighed and looked back towards their destination. “Yeah, it would appear that way, Mr. Hayes.”
Betrayal Garden || Mina & Jordan
The gardens and parks around CitySpire were Mina’s favorite project since she moved to New York. For the most part, she tried to maintain local wildlife to help nature take back the city, but her private collection closer to the skyscraper was much more diverse. It was her favorite place outside the penthouse.
Getting in touch with Jordan proved more difficult than expected, so she sent out a few messages to have him meet her in one of her gardens. Mina left word with Andrea, the human doctor he clearly had been sniffing around recently; at his restaurant that mostly remained empty even with the smell of food still hanging the air there; and at the Viceroy hoping at least one would track down the prince. They had much to discuss about plans for the next coming month.
Jordan hadn’t been avoiding anyone, he was simply an involuntarily solitary creature at times. Solitude was hard to come by these days and so he’d had to go far to find it, to find what peace he could and be given adequate time away from the rushing and the noise and his sister to try and come up with new ideas to appeal to the humans without starting some fresh hell. Adequate time, however, was not his to have, and so he simply slipped off when he could but always ended up returning not soon after he’d left, responsibility tugging him back to the city.
He received two of Mina’s summons within a few moments of each other (the first at Paisano’s and the second from a Beletum lackey) and he made immediately for the Gardens.
“Sorry for the delay, I was momentarily out of the area.” He sighed, ducking below a few branches.
