In theory, maybe I get the “we’re all just playing with barbies, they’re fictional characters, no interpretation is incorrect because it’s an interpretation” argument. But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit. Some takes are completely incorrect and betray a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. They just aren’t a reason to harass people or send death threats

Do you think chara and spamton got paralelism? I seen some people claiming have a similar backstory, motives and are manipulated by the player into being evil and that accusing spamton of wr is the new "chara made me do it"

I personally don't really see it but I wanted to see other people opinions.

acting like you the player "manipulate" spamton into doing anything is really really funny to me tbh like .

i don't mean to pull out the "grown ass man" thing but the biggest difference between them is that chara is a suicidal 10 yr old who only just now got "brought back" from what they were sure is their death, calls themself a demon because they believe themself evil, doesn't understand what you're even doing at first, and actively tells you to do something else if you do no mercy multiple times

versus spamton who is. very much a grown ass adult that knows exactly what you're doing, who you're hurting and how you're taking advantage of noelle to do it, and even then is very ready to give you the tools to carry out your violence more effectively so that he can take advantage of the chaos to slip into queen's basement

the absolute most they share is the "[x] left" counter thing, but that's about as active as chara gets until the end of no mercy. spamton actively gives you a weapon that will make noelle easier to use and command, one that he knows will hurt her (because he laughs about it when he gives it to you).

even the fact that he mentions the thorn ring in the normal route if you beat him up, like... this whole thing is something always in his back pocket. it's not something he does out of desperation or fear or manipulation or whatever - it's an opportunity that he's fully taking advantage of to get what he wants. he even Knows it's shitty, he calls you a jackass for it and says he knew you'd be evil with it, he literally just. doesn't care. so long as it helps him with his own goals, he doesn't care how many people get hurt or killed in the process.

and to me removing this kind of agency from him makes him a weaker character. he's vindictive and opportunistic and wants to hurt the people he feels wronged by and wants NEO so that he can become powerful enough to do so. he is his own worst invention, and he dies in weird route from his own hubris.

tldr: chara is a 10 yr old literally leave them be. spamton gives a 15 year old a roofie ring

(If a species is domesticated you can teach it any spell you want, as long as you start 'em young enough; every breed of dog has a different "standard" spell, and knowing the "wrong" one is considered both a grave departure from breed standards and a potential violation of animal husbandry ethics.)
