When Elgar'nan kindaps Neve or Bellara during on Tearstone Island, Rook will always rush towards the eluvian and either Davrin or Harding will step in to stop them. The game decides which companion will stop Rook based on who was chosen to dismantle the wards.

i know it’s been said before, but it bears repeating: a big, big part of maintaining your confidence & self esteem as a creator is fully embracing the concept of “you don’t have to be good like them.  you can be good like you.”

for example, i’m not someone who’s particularly good at coming up with complex, elaborate plots or incredibly unique ideas.  it’s just not how i choose to write.  and it would be easy for me to look at someone with an elaborate, super unique plot & decide that because i don’t write like that, i’m not a good writer.  after all, unique plots are good, and my writing lacks those, so my writing must not be good, right?  well, no, actually.  i just have different strengths, like taking a simple premise & digging super deep into its emotional depths.  that’s what i do well & it isn’t any better or worse than people who do elaborate world building or come up with really creative and unexpected plots.

your writing is never going to be all things to all people.  it just isn’t.  inevitably, you’ll have to make creative choices that favor certain aspects of writing over others.  there is truly no getting around that & it’s honestly a good thing, because it means you’ve developed your own style.  but you’ll always encounter other creators who posses strengths that you don’t.  it doesn’t mean one is better than the other or that your writing isn’t good enough. 

comparing yourself like that would be like taking a piece of pizza & a cupcake & going “oh no, that cupcake is so sweet & my pizza isn’t sweet at all.” or “gosh, the garlic crust on that pizza is delicious and my cupcake doesn’t have ANY garlic.”  obviously your pizza isn’t sweet.  obviously your cupcake doesn’t have garlic.  a food can’t have every single delicious flavor at once.  the cupcake is good like a cupcake.  the pizza is good like a pizza.  so you don’t have to be good like them.  you can be good like you.

This also means that sometimes you will get writing advice on how to improve your cupcakes and sometimes you will get writing advice on how to add garlic to your cupcakes because the reader doesn’t get that you’re not making a pizza

After fleeing Tevinter on a ship with her father, the horizon over the sea is freedom to Sabi Laidir. She can frequently be found on the beach, staring out into the distance— sometimes waiting for her father’s ship to return, but often just to listen to the waves.

WIP WEDNESDAY

I'm attempting my lock-in for the @dragonagesapphicweek and started working on a belasara thingie. that was originally supposed to be just a cute fluff piece, but I think it's actually also going to be an exploration of the Anderfels politics as I envision them in the aftermath of Veilguard and the difficulties they create for Ghilasara. whoops!

#wip: piles of piles

“Why are you still up?” Bellara asks, clearly still too drowsy to be mad or disappointed.

“Just finishing some things up. You should go back to sleep.”

“Paperwork?”

“Yes,” Rook responds carefully. Bellara may soon wake enough that she can start approaching the previously feared states.

“You could,” Bellara yawns, sweetly, “bring it here.”

Rook dares a look at the spot in her room many times more enticing than her desk. Bellara has sat up, blanket sliding away to reveal the top of her nightgown and neatly braided hair already turned into a lovely mess. The other side of the bed, the one Rook is supposed to occupy, is achingly empty. She wishes she was there, tangled in the death grip Bellara considers her preferred form of cuddling.

“Only,” Rook musters, “if you promise that the paperwork will constitute most of what we’ll be doing.”

“A half?” Bellara bargains.

“The bigger half.”

“There are no ‘bigger halves.’” Bellara, more awake, now frowns. “If it’s a half, it’s already split into two equal—”

“Well, I’ll stay here, then.” Rook pointedly turns away.

“The bigger half…” Bellara pauses, as if trying to find the best way to describe the expression after she has so staunchly denounced its definition. “Doesn’t sound too bad to me.”

also, there is this. I may not be a mother in a traditional sense, but I sure have a lot of unplanned children in the digital world.

wip wednesday - davrook week edition

hard at work trying to finish this piece for @davrookweek! tagging @mythals-whore, @wolfsong-the-bloody-beast, @gingervitus, @maagisterpavus, @xkatchy, and @seaglassmelody in case you have anything you'd like to share :3

Wrapping her arms around her knees, she arched her brows. "So you're telling me you invented an animal that couldn't possibly exist for these kids to hunt and they believed you?"

"More than believed me," Davrin chuckled, mouth curving in good humor. "A few of them were convinced they'd seen one before."

Shaking her head, she looked at him skeptically. "What did they do when they figured it out?"

Tucking his hands behind his head, his expression turned smug. "You're assuming they did."

Her mouth fell open but she had no response to that. Instead, she asked, "What happened next, then?"

He told her of how he led a hunt for a made-up animal, guiding a gaggle of children through the forest at night, turning over rocks and logs in search of something that didn't exist, and somehow convincing them to do so for hours.

"Cruel," she murmured, pressing her lips together to hide her amusement.

"A rite of passage," he protested as he nudged her playfully with his foot. She pinched his ankle in revenge until he narrowed his eyes. When she continued her mock glaring, he sighed. "When I was their age, the hunters in our clan took a few of us out, convinced us the whipper mole had infested the area and set us all loose on the woods to catch them."

"What's a whipper mole?"

"Exactly." He smirked. "I was the one who figured it out first."

She laughed, then, unable to contain the sound as she doubled over, imagning a child-sized Davrin glowering at the indignation of it all. When he lowered his arms to cross them, mouth twisted to one side, she only laughed harder.
