as someone who used to be deep in the depth of hell that is bbc sherlock (and rdj sherlock while we're at it) and now reading moriarty the patriot i feel insane to be saying these words: johnlock has no chemistry. mycroft is hot. irene adler is non-binary and may have a thing with mrs hudson. you can say moriarty is having an affair with both holmes brothers and it is technically correct. sherlock and moriarty ran away and got married in the U.S.

and these are all canon. 100/10 no notes, could only come from someone's fever dream fanfic or sth. i inhale every volume like air.

The existence of the The Two Detectives and The Two Criminals arcs in YuuMori always makes me giddy.

Yes, yes, let's show that William is just as capable of ferreting out a perpetrator and bringing them to justice as the Great Detective is. Yes, yes, let's show that Sherlock is just as capable of digging up an abusive asshole and committing a Perfect Crime to murder him as William is.

And, in fact, The Two Detectives ends with William getting the upper hand on Sherlock and (via trickery) managing to catch the perpetrator where Sherlock stalled out. And in The Two Criminals, Sherlock murdered Milverton before William could even get around to pulling the trigger.

Oh, oh I love them.

They are equals. They are the same. They are both equally capable of Detectiving. They are both Detectives. They were both equally capable of elegant, seamless murderer. They are both Criminals.

I love Moriarty the Patriot because William tries so, so hard to make this a “In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you,” story but Sherlock looks at him and straight up goes “FUCK THAT WE’RE DOING LAUNDRY AND TAXES IN THIS ONE.”

There’s a quality that certain books/movies/TV shows have that leads me to say, “Yeah, I can see people making fanfiction of that.” It’s something to do, I think, with how tight the story is, how much feels open-ended or like it could be elaborated on.

Something like Breaking Bad, for example, has low squiggability (that’s what I’m calling this quality). It’s tightly written, the characters are consistent, there’s little left to interpolate or extrapolate. Obviously, people DO write fanfic of Breaking Bad, but it still has a low squiggability score. Whereas something like Supernatural has a high squiggability score. Fantasy and science fiction often have high squiggability scores. This suggests squiggability could also be related to worldbuilding and potential for people to borrow a premise or setting.

And sometimes you’ll read or watch something and you’ll say, “Ah, low squiggability,” and then you’ll open tumblr and find out that everyone else seem to think its squiggability was very high indeed.

I like to think of this as potential ficability.

Some shows have high potential ficabilty and low kinetic ficabilty.

Some shows have both high potential and kinetic ficabilty.

Some shows that I believe have low potential ficabilty end up having high kinetic ficabilty.
