âfor the limits, to which our thoughts are confined, are small in respect of the vast extent of Nature it self; some parts of it are too large to be comprehended, and some too little to be perceivedâŠwe often take the shadow of things for the substance.â

So Iâm just going to leave this picture of an old Pablo Picasso here for reference.
#I recognized the reference but had assumed it was more of a general influence however they used the same molding and everything#Iâm sure itâs supposed to be more of a general statement rather than being about any one artist and Iâm sad thereâs no caption on her site#but Picasso was certainly one of Those Artist Dudes#which is to say he was an abusive douchebag to most of the women in his life (x)
yeah fuck this dude
Not to be dramatic but this is absolutely the right way to deal with creepy old men whose âartâ is just pictures of naked women
By the way if you like cubism but really dont want to look at Picasso, check out Francoise Gilot. She tends to do a lot of really stylized paintings of women but⊠Yanno. Without the abuse.
Sheâs also one of Picassoâs exes and consequently one of his muses. Sheâs spoken at length about her experience. And thus far, sheâs had some pretty sweet revenge. Sheâs free, her artwork is simply gorgeous, and sheâs still alive today (as of 2020) at the age of 98!
Edit: i would also like to add that Gilot was already an accomplished artist when she became involved with Picasso, and he completely sabotaged her career when she left him. He discouraged museums from showing her work, and he unsuccessfully tried to block the publication of her memoir, Life with Picasso. To my knowledge, sheâs the only one of his âmusesâ who is still alive, so letâs maybe take this time to explore and celebrate the work of a woman who was overshadowed by her abuser.
art history is an endless loop of learning how fucked up and crazy every artist is. art history professor will show you a painting of 4 oranges and be like the guy who painted this killed his wife

night blooming jasmine (nyctanthes arbor-tristis) đđ
the work is inspired by a folktale about the parijata tree. there was once a princess called Parijat, she fell in love with the sun god Surya. Surya didnât return her love, and in despair Parijat became the night blooming jasmine tree. the flowers bloom in the night, and in the day when the sunlight touches them, they fall to the ground.
