"I do admire his resilience and ambition, though I don't believe they come from god"
Yes girl he is doing it for you, you are his religion
"Oh... it's you - the wife who played my actress"

The French Dispatch is aging better every day in an age of AI. Because that movie pretty much makes the point that without the artists voice there is no real art. Writing, painting, cooking it is all art and it is important to hold on to these things because if we dont then we as humans will loose something important. The Phonician scheme makes a smiliar statement. Zsa-Zsa gives up his life as a capitalist, sadistic business man and embraces humainity. Through the embrace of his daughter, her femininity he is now free, and her teachings and art are his new religion in a way. He embraces art (cooking) in the end. He will never be forgiven for what he has done, no one could be forgiven for that. But perhaps one day he will be a complete human again.
It’s crazy how Wes Anderson put out two movies back to back that are thematically linked by writing and legacy, and everyone kinda just decided that he makes the same pretentious movie, and not seeing them as probably the best two back to back movie runs of maybe anyone’s career. Anyway, Phoenician Scheme is fucking kickass, and Asteroid City is its beautiful twin sister with different interests.
And the political aspects he seems to be interested in tackling now started during Fantastic Mister Fox and really became stronger during the Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch. I am really interested to see Wes Andersons evolution in this specific area because I think he has a lot to say.
I like them :)
by the way, hypothetically?
Shout out to Wes Anderson for NOT portraying the revolutionaries in Phoenician Scheme as evil. Far to many shows and movies these days portray anti capitalist revolutionaries as irredeemable people who end up being the main villains.
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (2014) dir. Wes Anderson — You're not getting Boy With Apple, you goddamn little fruit! — How's that supposed to make me feel?
people in the letterboxd reviews of the phoenician scheme are like "wes anderson always makes a wes anderson type movie" like yes duh what the fuck else do you want him to do ??? should he make james bond five????/
The pipeline from watching conclave, to binge watching Ralph Fiennes movies, to watching Grand Budapest Hotel and getting your brain completely altered by a bisexual hotel concierge just to get obsessed with Wes Anderson movies is real and I am on it. I am now obsessed with stop motion aliens, gay writers, talking foxes and a prince who learned how to play basketball.
"You're a manager. Manage."
This bisexual manager not only did manage but also served cunt
The face when grief is an alien. And you don’t know what he means to do when he steals something so important. It poses for pictures. It comes and goes as it needs. It confuses you. Why did you burn your hand? It’s messy and everything is falling apart. And you don’t understand the play. And then the alien returns the important thing. Unbroken, but still changed. Familiar but new. You pack your car and decide to stay with your kids. Grief is an alien. One you’ll only see when you sleep, and only remember when you wake.
If Asteroid City was for depressed gays then the Phoenician Scheme was for the lesbians who want hot nuns who smoke and serve cunt to step on them.
If the conclave movie proved anything, it's that nobody goes as insane for religious stories and symbolism as atheist gay people.
It is fascinating how a lot of Wes Anderson criticisms boil down to: He is not making the movies I want him to make, and not writing the scenes I want him to write therefore it is bad. Like guys, at this point just accept that Wes Anderson is a grown man with a wife and child and not some twenty something year old filmmaker. He cares about different things now. And those pople who only complain that there are gay and black people in his movies now deserve to get shot into the sun.
