She definitely understood what he was talking about. The contsant ache of her father’s loss would become lighter everyday, but that doesn’t mean it still wasn’t a predominant cause of the sadness she would often feel. “Do you ever regret getting into all of this?” She asked, not only as a question for Kaldur, but a question for herself.

Her question caught him off guard. It was a question he asked himself many times before. Not because he felt like it was too much, more so because he feared to let people down. He knew he couldn’t save everyone, but in his mind that is what he pictured. “Regret it? No.” he spoke softly. “I have doubted myself as I am sure most of us have, but I realize that I make a difference in others lives. Without people like us to protect the innocent, would this world really be as happy as it is? We bare the pain so the innocent people don’t have to. That is something I accepted a long time ago. That sacrifice is what makes us heroes.”

“You are right.  Though, I have yet to find many foods on this planet that I dislike.  And thank you.  I have been here for a few months, but I still sometimes feel sick for my home on Tamaran.  A taste of home is most welcome.”

“I am sure that you will come across something that is distasteful. Believe me, there are many things that could possibly taste horrific. I have had my fair share of such cases. I must agree with you that it is very difficult to find foods that taste bad, especially since many things here I deep fried. Have you tried french fries? They are delicious. Is it different here? From your home planet?”

A red flash passed through the halls before stopping in the living room of the base huffing in an annoyed manner. “I left it right here… Where could it have gone?” Bart said more to himself then anyone as he zoomed around tossing pillows and cousins about. “Okay someone took it and I will become such a nuisance to everyone. And that’s a fair warning to anyone in ear shot!” That last part he wanted people to hear.

He watched as someone zoomed around the room, before getting a good idea of who exactly it was. He had come to visit with some of the Titans, however it seemed as if no one was here other than the speedster. Kaldur calmly walked towards him, picking up the things he has tossed and placing them back where they belonged. “There is always the possibility that you might have misplaced whatever it is that you are looking for.”

The waters at Happy Harbor were nothing like those at Paris Island. For one, there wasn’t trash littered everywhere to be seen any which way you looked. Two, the peace was rarely ( possibly never? ) shattered by gunshots or fights. And third, Happy Harbor’s view of the ocean was beautiful. Raquel still remembered the first time she saw it; it had been breathtaking, watching the sun rise on the horizon. It leaves little room to wonder why Kaldur– or anyone, really– would go there just to think or relax.

Raquel had intended to simply ignored the snap, but she still appreciated the apology. “I was about to ask you the same thing,” she said as she walked up next to him. He gave nothing away, but she knew only too well the stress that came with having a say in the world’s future. Their makeshift League would rise or fall under his leadership. All it took was one bad call for everything to be over, and that knowledge was enough to to drive anyone crazy.  “I thought I’d see if you wanted some company, or someone to talk to.”

Aqualad turned to her with a polite nod. Indeed he came here to be alone, but perhaps that was not what he needed. Before her arrival he had just been staring off digging himself deeper into his doubts and worries. He knew for a fact that he wasn’t alone in this, her company was proof of that, but for some reason the responsibility he was under kept getting to him. “I would love some company.” he replied to her, moving his gaze back towards the sunset over the ocean. “It is beautiful...” he paused allowing him to really take it all in. “When I first came to the surface world I was truly amazed that something so wonderful was foreign to me for so long. Underwater the sun’s light is not as magnificent.” Aqualad spoke his thoughts out loud. “I want everyone to be able to enjoy it with the safety and comfort that we are blessed to have at the moment. Yet, I fear that somewhere down the line I will make a mistake and all of this will cease to exist.”

Zatanna sat next to the Atlantean in a way that lacked any kind of grace whatsoever. She enjoyed the serentity of watching the ocean, but for herself, peace was found in cities, on tall buildings where she would listen to the ambiance that reminded her of New York, and let herself become fascinated with the many lights that would often be an indication of life. She would always wonder about those lights and the people behind them, it would help distract her when required. But right now the Homo Magi wasn’t sitting by the sea to find peace, she was sitting there because she was somewhat concerned about the male sitting next to her. “No, I don’t really need anything right now, thanks though.” Zatanna let her eyes fall on Kaldur, observing his actions. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

“When his fellow teammate walked up beside him, he slightly shifted to face her respectively. This was the last place he thought he would find the young woman, knowing her love for surroundings that included more concrete. This made him wonder what exactly brought her to the edge of the ocean by his side. After she spoke he could surmise what the case was. “I am fine.” he reassured her. There was no need to worry his team or his friend. “Today was a long day and the ocean always tends to relax me.” A rare soft smile crossed his lips. “The job takes a small toll from time to time. You understand that as much as I, I am sure. ”

“But, it is so delicious!  How could they not enjoy it?  It reminds me of a dish served on my home planet… Then again, maybe that is the reason they would not enjoy it.”

“I suppose it has to do with regional tastes. For instance I am not a fan of hot dogs, yet it is a common american favorite. It is understandable that as unique individuals we have unique tastes in cuisine. I did not realize you were not of this Earth, a late welcome is in order. I am glad that I could bring you a slice of home, if that indeed is a positive thing.”

“This is most delicious!  Please tell me, what is it called?”

“It’s octopus tentacles cooked in seaweed oil, an Atlantean specialty. I am pleased that you enjoy it, most land dwellers find the texture rather...unsettling. I suppose it is the suckers that are displeasing, however I find that is my favorite quality.”

Aqualad silently watched the sea. This is where he came to think, the steady hum the ocean sang was calming to him. Calm. Something that he desperately wanted now a days. It was ironic really, all those times he wished to be treated like he was a member of the league and now he was practically the leader of the new one. The responsibility was almost crushing, but he wouldn’t let anyone know that. His head turned as he heard someone approach him. “What do you need?” he said with a bit of a snap in his voice. Aqualad shook his head realizing the tone of his voice. “My apologies” his face softened up a bit from the stiffness, “Is there something that I can assist you with?”
