Saskatoon

These are lovely berries for pies, indeed. Each berry has six large seeds that taste like almonds when cooked. The saskatoon is a member of the rose family. Not even remotely related to blueberries or huckleberries. I am used to finding them in cold climates and relatively high altitudes.

Thank you! You find them at higher altitudes here in wa but also in the lowlands in scrubby areas alongside oak, madrona, and arctostaphylos. There’s a monster one in my yard.
